Thanks, I now understand exactly whats happening in my body....
Erumphoney j
I used this video to begin to describe to my 7 year old what anemia is. He immediately asked if his iron vitamins help make more red blood cells, like the trucks, to deliver oxygen to his body. It was so helpful! Thank you! Explaining symptoms and why the organs need oxygen really helped him understand why it is important too. I'm very glad to have found your videos!
If this is true then that goes to show us all that many children are made to learn a whole lot more than what they currently are learning. Little geniuses exist from those early beginnings and could be nurtured in many trades.
Nicole- I love Khan Academy! I am a visual learner and I appreciate the written concepts to put things together. I appreciate how thorough teaching the basic concepts are to full understand the term and what goes into it.
Please correct the definition of anemia: it is not the reduction of the number of red cells but the reduction of the Haemoglobin concentration in the blood.
+Ornela Tepshi Not necessarily. Anemia is just a condition where the oxygen carrying capacity is reduced. It can be from reduction of hemoglobin, incorrectly produced hemoglobin, etc. The best way to narrow down your 3 options to help diagnose anemia is: increased destruction of cells, excessive blood loss, or decreased production of blood cells.
It can be reflected with hemoglobin, hematocrit, or RBC count...not JUST hemoglobin.
Crist Gord Thank you for your reply. I agree with the classification that you gave of anemia, but if we want to give a general definition of anemia, that comprises all types of it, in my opinion, the best way is to talk about haemoglobin concentration reduction. Because there are also types of anemia where the number of red cells is raised or even normal.
Rbc reduction leads to reduction of heme
I wish trucks delivered money to people....
True, REAL true

Who ever you are who made this video.. Thanks a lot.
This video gives me the answer i have been looking for since 2 months. It perfectly fits in the equation why my uncle died and what actually happened that night.
He had Extremely low blood amount in his body (6. Something)
All those symptoms like ;
- pale skin colour
- Swollen body
- Hair loss
- Dizziness, Weakness, Fatigue
- Hallucinations
- Chest pain
- Deep / Heavy breathing rapidly.
- Red scars on skin.
May be extreme Head Sweating also even though it was at peak winter. And finally Congestive Heart Failure did the rest. ( i am not sure about this one)
Is anyone else waiting for her to say, "One time in band camp..."

This is so fascinating.
Thank you for this video. Didn't realize how bad it is to be anemic. Your video explains a lot. Well done.
exploreyourweb It's crazy, right? I suffered from anemia for a long time and I only went to the hematologist because I wanted to donate blood and they wouldn't let me. She almost killed me when I admitted that.
Thank alot i think i understand it a bit
thank u really good information
thanks for this video !! I have anemia myself but never understood the situation so I never really thought about it. But this video helped to me to understand my condition much better and see it in a new way 😊
Angië Crawfįšh do you take iron supplements?
Thank you very much.
Beautiful analogy
The anemia happened baecause of decrase of cells that carry haemglobin or decrase of quantity of hb in each cells
It's amazing
awesome analogy
Okay, this all makes so much sense now. I had a feeling I might have had anemia, and this validates it for me. I do have one question... Recently, I've felt like I haven't had enough energy to speak. Could this be a sign as well?
Where can i find this video's transcript?
Thank you sir :)
What is anaemia called nutritional deficiency anaemia

Got it
How about iron deficiency anemia? Same thing?
I collapsed last Thursday I was rushed to hospital. My heamoglobin level was 70! A normal level for male is 130-160. I had a blood transfusion and iron transfusion turns out I had an ulcer in my duodenum that was bleeding hence why I was so anemic. I spent 5 days in hospital.
i was just told today that i have anemia and my twin sister had it before me. everything she get i get
the trucks delivering money to the government?
I"M TRIGGERED!
END THE FED!!!!!!
I was in math class the other day and my heart started racing, My friend freaked out because I almost blacked out, I fell on the stairs because I felt dizzy I couldn't breathe normally teachers came and called the ambulance because I was paper white...The doctor said I have anemia.
ayo chimchim you got jams CHIM CHIM!!
thanke you so much these video the patient is very tired becouse oxgen dicreas thats'all right 🌹🌹
my best friend has got this
okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..... i feel like a 5 yrs old listening to my school teacher...
And 5 year olds acquire complex and abstract information at incredible rates. For example: they can learn facility in a foreign language in weeks and fluency soon thereafter. Just sayn' basics are the start point at any age and if I wanted to be a hematologist, I would understand this great analogy first:) I for one, can get lost if I don't know the basics first. Anaemia as a topic gets incredibly complex quickly. Cheers.
is it dangerous ? my mom is like overeacting about it and i dont give a damn like i dont feel anything that bad but the doctors said i need to at least improve soon
Farida Amir i was at 3 g/dL but I was just tired and didnt feel that bad but I needed an emergency blood transfusion
i have hyperventilat alot and alot of time i get dizzy and almost faint i have had hair loss and ive been depressed for bout 3 years and im sometimes unfocused but i also have adhd but i think i have anemia cuz i have a deviated septum and i really cant breath but im a lil unhealty but i think i eat lots of fruits and veggies do u tjink im anaemic
It's not always about eating healthy or not; it could be due to a variety of reasons and anemia has different types; whether it's anemia or something else your symptoms definitely enough to go to see a doctor and check; about depression and ADHD are you medically diagnosed with that? like youre taking meds for them? or you just believe you're? cause they seem all are signs for one problem you got that caused them all; and about the deviated septum if it affects your breathing, your RR, and your oxygen saturation then you really need a surgery .. at the end all I'm saying GO for a doctor, I wish you the best honey you did great coping with all the symptoms for this long
Is there a link for the video that discusses the body increasing red blood cell production?
Chen Wills just search polycythemia
I had that
Your presentation was fine with the organs but the truck example is the part I would leave out.
Rodney Ortiz my thoughts
I looking at this because my mom has this :(
I have anemia and ptsd the fatigue is Strong as hell
when you're paying $70k/year for a doctorate program and an 8 minute youtube video describes this better than my profs did in 12 lectures.
I though Anemia was San Francisco sinking into the Bay.....
LET THEM SWIM...
In November of last year 2016 I ended up in the hospital because I was throwing up and my white cells were up but other than that my test were relatively normal as I was told. But last thrusday the second of February 2017 I went for a physical and I got my test results and I'm a fucked. They told me my rbs are low- indication of anemia, low vitamin D level and my renal function is slightly low. Wtf?!!! How in the fucking world this this happen?!! I mean when they do blood work are they specially running certain test to determine certain health issues or does the CBC tell them what's wrong right away? I mean how can I go from being okay 3 months ago to now this? I'm sad
coming from a tool song is a win for science
this is good shit
I was born w it ugh through my whole life it's a freaking struggle
You need to have a positive look at life.. I suggest that you try reading the Quran ❤️. Good luck

i just got told that i have this
She sounds just lile Khan😂😂 is she his wife?
I have anemia
At 3:01 it's is said that anaemia* is a shortage of RBCs which is incorrect.
Anaemia is the reduction in the oxygen carrying capacity/haemoglobin of the RBCs. The RBC count of an anaemic can be normal but they would still have anaemia.
Post 6:00 is all BS. the fundamentals are wrong and so the concepts are altered.
Hi
I had anemia for 4-5 years but I just learned that....
While I get the truck analogy, I found it unnecessary and time-consuming. We get that tissues need oxygen; no need to waste time on that unhelpful analogy. Otherwise, fine video.
Ane sa
u insaneee....u and ur damn speed trucks ....
Wrong . Anemia doesnt mean decrease in RBC .thats not scientific defintion
Drinking too much Cow Milk causes Anemia
Is this for kids??? Come on!!
It's seems a lot of unnecessary explanation about a simple subject indeed.
DrsJacksonn
yeah... but i liked her second video... a lot more useful...
DrsJacksonn
Anyone who thinks anemia is a simple topic must not work in health care. There's at least 6 different TYPES of anemia, it's sort of like diabetes or schizophrenia which on the surface seems easy but isn't in the least bit simple.
Of course I've only ever made it to Paramedic, not even Flight medic, and I think all this stuff at the paramedic level is really complicated.
Of course they use all kinds of words in paramedic training that I hardly hear in too many videos. That's why I like KhanAcademy medicine, because they use more medical terminology.
Vicki Bee Yeah but the video only explains the core principle, which turns out rather basic through the progress of the video. I've seen processes that wre much more difficult to understand getting explained in the same amount of time, by this same channel.
I found it Very helpful because I have anemia myself but never really understood the whole situation and watching this helped me to understand I'm 14 which I guess could also be considered as a child but her explanation using the trucks have me a better funner view of things.
I searched up anemia and the first thing I learn about are fucking trucks!!! Just give us a simple answer
LMAO
DangRussell Wilson me too
DangRussell Wilson they have to explain to return it as people like yourself and simple simple terms
I heard that if you have anemia one of the stuff on it is you could be pregnant.
+Alleah Villegas Anemia is a symptom that can be present in a myriad of conditions, and pregnancy can be one of them. What it really comes down to is: Blood loss, lower blood production, or high blood death. Then you can start narrowing down your diagnosis.
K thanks for letting me know
Wrong info given, and explanation of complication is ridiculous.
