    They create a problem then come with the solution. I am disappointed in Bob asking poor people once again to donate money why don't he sell all his shares and investments he has in Africa and donate it. These so called humanitarian has been pulling the wool over our eyes for to long stop donating money let them put their hands in their on pockets first.

      And this is what Google says about Big Bob...
      Bob Geldof is a rich man. According to the Sunday Times rich list he is worth £32 million and like most rich people he is understandably keen to hang on to his fortune. That's why, very sensibly, he gives no more of his money away to the Government than he has to.

    this has been Bob Geldof's act for the past 30+ years. He comes up with naive plans that help no one but himself, gets on TV, and if anyone questions his motives he shouts profanity. "Do They Know It's Christmas" has always been a crappy song. Live Aid was a great concert but the money they raised went to the very warlords who created the famine. And the criticism is valid -- many of these artists are tax exiles who could chip in their own fortunes. He couldn't respond to it.

    • @mjsilverfox
      @mjsilverfox Před 11 měsíci +1

      I completely agree, the awful truth about Live aid, as good as intentions were, didn't help much to relieve the famine crisis at the time. Instead it unfortunately made the situation worse as the funds went straight into the hands of the Ethiopian dictator, Mengistu, who used those funds to slaughter the very people the charity event were trying to save.
      It's terrible what happened and Bob Geldof was apparently warned to hold on to the funds until they could be released in a safe way to the people who needed it, he ignored the warning and the money went straight to Mengistu to fund his army and the purchase of weapons from Russia.
      Hearts were in the right place place for Live Aid but it ended up escalating an already horrendous situation that was going on at the time.

      Mark Llewellyn It was Bob that was speaking like a "cretin of society" with his language. I wish they had let him fully explain his position on tax avoidance. This mans a millionaire as is Bono (600 million) and could fully fund a medical response against Ebola in a private donation with dignity. Instead he has to demand money from the tax paying public and act controversial in order to keep his name relevant. To clarify there is nothing wrong with the cause or fundraising, only if its not conducted by hypocrites.

      Comment Post Yet, they appear to "blindly assume that a 'charity' single is for the" bad. Double standards and of absolutely no help to any cause but sensationalism. Journalism is dead.

    • @commentpost907
      @commentpost907 Před 9 lety +3

      Turned Around Not really blindly, the previous Band Aid singles have been examined with criticisms about how the money raised is spent and the message they portray (one that is belittling to Africa as a continent).
      Some of the key people involved in the single have been exposed tax evading and not paying their fair share within their own society. So it seems highly hypocritical of them to try and rally people to contribute to solve problems globally when they don't do it locally themselves.
      I agree Sky News will want to create a story for themselves but this isn't unfounded. Bono and Bob Geldof provide a wealth of material to throw back, as they are both extremely sanctimonious, raising questions whether they do they do this for themselves or for the plight of people in need, they are also very condescending about 'Africa', the people they 'attempt' to help and very sketchy regarding their tax affairs.
      This awareness and research of the situation (as mentioned above) is what drives them to these questions, they didn't arrive blindly (even if this probing matches their agenda to sell stories and create these narratives).
      I will accept that sometimes it can SEEM a news agency arrives blindly to a situation but on those occasions it is usually to drive home their own agenda by discrediting and individual and promoting their own message. On this probably not the case. There is just something too fishy about Mr. Geldof.

    • @commentpost907
      @commentpost907 Před 9 lety +1

    I don't have much time for Sky but these are the sort of questions that need to be asked. Charity and government are one and the same, in most instances charity picks up the bill that government does not. If certain wealthy individuals don't pay tax, and then raise money for charity in song they are effectively plugging the gap they have created. Like a redistribution from poor to rich.

    I never bought it in 1984 or gave money to it in 1985. Geldof was forgotten until he started this is 84,

  • @ilikebananassometimes3608

    Haven't heard this song, don't want to hear it and certainly won't buy it. The original Band Aid money was mismanaged with the trust being harshly criticized by other charities for cooperating with the Ethiopian government and military rather than established charities that would use the money quickly and where needed. In fact the Red Cross claim the mishandling of the Band Aid funds during 1985/86 resulted in more deaths than the 1984 famine that prompted the original Band Aid.
    The 2005 Live 8 concerts were a pathetic failure that only served to dilute the message of the campaign, Make Poverty History, that it was nominally supporting.
    Maybe this attempt will be third time lucky and the money will actually have a genuine positive effect but I don't care, I don't trust Geldof or the Band Aid Trust to do the right thing. Well done Adele for not believing the hype.
    EDIT: Just watched it. It's pretty poor, not Band Aid 2 (1989) piss poor, just poor.

    Very poor interview by Sky News, completely designed to negate the track and its intentions. What on earth has (supposed) tax evasion, whether certain stars did or did not take part in the recording of the track, and the logo of the single got to do with anything? Ridiculous. I'm not surprised Geldof reacted as he did. I hope Secker feels idiotic.

    Is it ironic that Bob Geldof has saved many lives in Africa but was unable to save the life of his own daughter?
