I haven't played SH3 in a few years, but IIRC Valtiel also drags Heather away when you die. This can be viewed as him dragging her off to be used to birth "God" but also could be viewed as Valtiel rescuing her from any further offenses by other monsters.

They're also spotted randomly in the game at some points and they don't attack Heather during these moments. Almost like they're watching over her. One theory was that the Valtiel seen turning the wheels in a level represent part of their power to transition the town to the Otherworld. Not sure if it's true or not, but it's a cool theory.
Heather mentions reincarnation at a certain point in the game and reveals her fear of it. so it makes sense that every time you load a game Heather is being 'reincarnated' and Valtiel is dragging her away to do this for her.
He resurrects her sense his whole thing is to be sure god is resurrected at all cost
You'd need to address the fact that Valtiel covers God in a protective robe. It's an interesting perspective but I am not on board with the idea that Valtiel is guiding Heather to kill God or escape her nightmare. It could go either way but I feel that the most likely case is he is protecting Heather to allow the birth of God to occur. Valtiel never follows or tends to Heather after the Birth of God, her part is over. There's also the fact that there's a baby's cry at the end, suggesting that God has still been reborn or may do so at a later point.
It's not something I was able to explore in the video, but I have a theory about that veil. The way it's being placed on the God, rather than removed, feels less like putting on a robe, and more to me like a death veil. Usually when we cover people's faces its because they've died. It almost feels like preparation for her death. But that's just one interpretation of course.

Between this and that Gods of Silent Hill video about Valtiel, I have to say Valtiel is a lot more fascinating as a character than I ever would have thought from my playthrough of 3.

I don’t know about you all but this verse from king crimson’s “the court of the crimson king” can be related to valtiel, the lighting in most of the game (at least in the otherworld) make him look yellowish, he’s basically the jolly the card that breaks rules that is above all other cards and in the sh3 context valtiel is a god’s servant yet he somehow appear above god’s own law, by turning the valves he changes the world and by extension reality itself just like the jester who controls the strings, it may be possibile that it was valtiel who warped heather outside the otherworld after the last fight, his stitches on his face resembles a mouth in a derisive expression again just like the jester who smiles at the puppets (heather, Claudia, Douglas and Vincent in this case) while they “dance” (fight, try to survive ecc) in the “court of the crimson king” (the otherworld).

I just noticed something while watching your video, can Valtiel be in part a representation of the player? since when we are playing the game we are always following the protagonist / heather, maybe that's why it seems like Valtiel want to help heather since we as the player want heather to succeed as well. also maybe that's why he seems more human like, he always seems to be on the background and not really being active similar to what it would be the camera view following the protagonist. There are some other interesting things that may imply that Valtiel be in part a representation of the player like when Valtiel drags Heather after she died maybe to revive her in the same way we as the player do by continuing the game. Well is just a theory although it would be fun to think that Valtiel represent the conscious part of the player and pyramid head would represent the subconscious part of the player. Anyways is time for me to go back to work lol, thank you for the awesome videos.

Here's another thing to consider. When Valtiel is turning the valves on either side of him, could that be meant to be a visual similarity of us controlling Heather with the dual sticks on the controller?
I'm surprised you didn't mention his lips. On the back of his bondage mask is a circular hole revealing a pair of lips underneath. Lips framed within a circle are a recurring visual theme in both Silent Hill 2 and 3. In 2, they first appear on Flesh Lips and later on Mandarins. In 3, they appear on Closers, the Glutton, the monster seen in the mall elevator scene, and Valtiel.
I find it interesting that both Mandarins and Valtiel are often depicted suspended over an abyss and also both have this lips-framed-in-a-circle motif.
By the way there's also at least one oblong hole framed within a circle, which is the one Valtiel pulls Claudia down into at the end of the game. According to the "Faith" painting earlier in the level this particular oblong hole seems to be an object of worship for the cultists.
Before I thought valtiel was just a monster that distracts your character in the background but then after watching your symbolism I finally understood his purpose love watching your symbolism videos!

RagnarRox did a two part video that, in my opinion, really convincingly suggested that Valtiel is the Red God and that Alessa, Cheryl, and Heather are the Yellow God.

You know in one of the endings in silent hill origins where they turn travis into a pyramid head? I cant remember the plot or scene perfectly... but I always assumed it was really weird that alessa would grant only travis the power to change silent hill, and in one of the endings, turn him into a servant... most people agree that pyramid head from sh2 is strictly made for james, and not related to anything but james.. but we know that valtiel is there in silent hill during every game...

The only real physical being not changed through the fears and desires of anyone else, the only person who tried to save alessa from the burning house, the only person who was ever on her side, who happens to be turned into a servant of alessa...

Love this video, always have. In my opinion Valtiel is shown to have more dominion over the other world than Pyramid Head. Honestly since the other world in SH2 and SH3 have different fundamentals in the form they manifest I think the connection between Valtiel and Pyramid Head is less than "master and servant" because they serve completely different purposes
Curious. If the theory of Valtiel truly serving Heather was accurate, and he can raise the dead, why wouldn’t he bring back Harry, who Heather truly would want returned to life so she could have her father again... things to think about, I suppose
An interesting thought! It may be that there are rules and limits to his powers... we know he is following Heather, and he has to physically drag her away to revive her... perhaps he was not capable of reviving Harry because he was not there at the time and too much time passed?
He isn't truly there for Cheryl. Valtiel is the protector of god, hence why he only protects Cheryl in revival and following her around because she carries god with her. Valtiel puts the wraps on god to try to allow her to finish her transformation, as the Aglophotis and the transferrance of god into another body setback the birthing process. Even in Silent Hill 1, aglaphotis is thrown onto the incubator hence it not being its true form. We can gather that god is supposed to look like the one depicted in the paintings or that it is more similar to baphomet.

There are a lot of scenes where Valtiel interacts with that unique nurse.
In Valtiel's introduction in the mall elevator he's suspended over an abyss on the other side of metal grating, pulling the nurse down and out from between the legs of another monster.
In the transition to the otherworld hospital he's turning that valve while suspended over an oblong hole in the wall; above him is a bathtub and then the nurse in a bondage position. Right after that when you enter the fleshy 3f hallway of the otherworld hospital you can see Valtiel drag the nurse out from an abyss. Then there's the time you mentioned behind the foggy glass, where he seems to be repetitively dragging her upward.
Then in the church right before Alessa's room you can see him on top of a suspended hallway made of metal grating where he's lifting and dropping the nurse in what seems like a sadistic fashion.
There are other cases that seem to have thematic connections to these scenes too, like in Hilltop Center where you find him holding on to a mummified doll over an abyss.
To be fair, from the games you could see why someone would think PH had a resurrection power. I wonder what else is going on with Maria then? Maybe she doesn't even die at all during those segments, then. Or maybe she resurrects herself?

So @ the climax of SH3, after Claudia ingests that creature and is dragged down into that elongated hole. What happened to her physical body? I know she ‘birthed’ the god creature, but I’m wondering how it transpired... I guess I could say the same about Alessa from the first game; her body is also gone after she ‘aborts’ the incubus. Did their bodies just simply disintegrate?
I like this series of videos so much, despite the occasional quibble. And trust me, I played the shit out of the first and fourth games. THE SHIT OUT OF THEM. Just trust me on that. I hate to ask since I am unable to contribute to their creation, but could the be longer and more florid? If I should someday be of the means to contribute, I swear I shall!

So would Valtiel act as some Silent Hill representation of Harry Mason? If his actions imply that he is looking out for Heather's safety not out of duty to the cult or the god, then it is possible that if he is not the spirit of Harry living on as an entity, but rather a twisted memory manifested by Heather's presence in Silent Hill when she went there. Maybe Valtiel looked and acted much differently before Heather showed up...

I love your analysis on characters, it's the best I've ever seen, but your lore is always a bit off. Ito has confirmed many times Pyramid Head is related to James, and can't exist without James himself.
That's because PH was made by James to punish himself. Now, the relationship between Valtiel and PH is a bit tricky: The sect of Valtiel had an executioner called Red Devil, that carried out God's will, like a high priest or something. The Red Devil had this name because he wore a red hood over his head. We see his painting on the Historical Society, but the resolution is very low and the painting is small. Pyramid Head was created by James but it was modeled after Valtiel, like you suggested. I hope I was clear
True that's what has been said, but that doesn't mean it has to be the end of the story. I believe PH has a deeper connection to the whole town - that the version of PH we see belongs to James, yes, but the source of that creature still exists, and manifests from time to time as various monsters like PH or the Bogeyman, etc. etc.
Just because the lore says one thing is true doesn't mean I can't imagine or interpret another thing as also being true. Thanks for watching!
I don't think there's a clear cut answer. There's a lot of hints and possibilities, and the developers don't seem to want to give a straight answer - part of the power behind the Silent Hill series is how open to interpretation it is, how many answers there could be. I think there is a consciousness in the town that controls the monsters, and perhaps that consciousness is represented by Pyramid Head, but that is just my own intrepretation.
@@warrioroflight3489 I don't think there's a god. It's just people's thoughts and feelings coming to life. Valtiel, Samael, Metatron, it's all the same. These things only have the power people believe they do. Like the Seal of Metatron, for example, doesn't work in the third game because nobody believes in it, so it's worthless. If Heather really thought it would work, maybe it would have.
@@warrioroflight3489 what's the cause of the evil in the world? It's people, man. People are evil. Silent Hill just reflects that. It's like saying a mirror is evil because it reflects ugly things. The mirror has no will of its own, just like the town doesn't.
While I wished PH is a James-exclusive monster, it's hard to hold the developers' comments on the monster.
They themselves stated regret for including him in the other games just cuz he/it is iconic.
So yeah, better to attach some meaning to him rather than know he's only there cuz he is popular.
I don't think the Fukuro Lady had anything to do with God. She was just an unused monster from SH2 and used in the short called Fukuro.

I think the cards role in the fools journey is better represented in silent hill. I really think you should take a look at the major arcana and the Fools Journey and see if you can relate it to the characters of silent hill. It’ll be a heavy challenge but I think well worth it.

Valtiel is Metatron, Lord of the Electron. He controls the spinrate of photons in our realities, essentially controlling them and thus can change the outer appearance of the holographic reality. Indeed, he converses with God directly, to keep our realities moving.....

@@Just_a_Goth Because the Valtiel protect Heather. Nurses are a threat to her. She's pregnant with God, and Valtiel are 'servants of God', so, theoretically speaking, they'll protect Heather for the sake of God, and because she's part of Alessa as well.
Alive and Dead Pretty sure he was doing that nurse a service actually. (As explained in the video, that it could be a form of the God boss that appears at the end of the game) That's really speculative though.
