    Such a shame it didn't work out in the end, good effort though! Did this on an AEG machine last year, but used around 20 bolts (M3) with self securing nuts to hold it together. Still working fine, but it sure is a lot of work, compared to the ones where you can just unscrew both tub-halves and leave the rear one with everything still attached inside the machine. What a world we live in!

    I was very impressed by how you carefully managed to seperate the two halves of the outer drum without resorting to sawing it apart like others have on CZcams.
    So I feel for you that in the end the project was unsuccessful after all that work. As you may know there are different glues for different plastics so a different glue may have sorted it had you known the plastic the outer drun was made from. So much for Evostik `Sticks like' .... mind it's a severe test for it in this application.
    Yes I feel that Korean stuff is good, especially Samsung ..... they don't seem to have made the mistake that some Japanese electronics companies did of producing good equipment at first and then cheapening it and hoping people will still buy based on the good reputation of the brand.
    Perhaps you'll eventually end up with a Miele !

    Good to see you still stripping things down and repairing them, madness about sealing that drum up like that. Thanks for sharing!

    Good effort, I'm at the stage where I've reconnected the plastic drum with bolts epoxy glue and then a strong sealant the way round. Will water test and see if it works.
    Thanks for your video

      @Ade Reeves everything was going well but I think the concrete blocks when attached to the plastic casing made it leak.
      Frustrating but found a complete drum replacement will see how that goes.
      They really don't want you repairing these machines. Why not bolt the 2 halves instead of sealing them

    • @AdeReeves
      @AdeReeves  Před rokem +1

      Thats the main reason i had a go at repairing it...did ones years ago and the drum split and bolted back together, you just had to be carefull with the rubber seal... but repairing doesnt get them sales ...it all part of the throw away society that blames us for waste...

    My bearings are shot on my 1 - 2 year old Hotpoint machine. Cost us £300. Was thinking of doing the bearing myself, but after watching this.... I'm thinking Nah.....

    • @AdeReeves
      @AdeReeves  Před rokem

      On reflection i could have done things better ....but i would still choose replacement machine over bearings any day ...shame as it was an easy fix years ago..

    We have the same washer which needs the bearings changed. Glad i watched this first. Definitely time for a new washer. Bit annoying Curry's charge £20 to take the old one away. (to live on a farm i guess).
    Cracking video I've subscribed.

      Lucky for us we have a scrap metal guy that comes around every couple of weeks , and takes anything you lave by the side of the house...I guess in hindsight if i had drilled and nut and bolted the drum it may have worked , but to be honest its hardly worth the hassle ripping the thing to bits when new ones are fairly cheap, just hate the throw away society created , back in the day we recycled almost everything, and the young ones complain about waste today ...

    6:04 Look at the towel on the oven. He might be haunted or the most likely reason is because most of the towel was on one side so the other side of the towel weighs more and fell.

  • @sammytheseal2307

    I expect the reason that failed is because of the counterweight on the front half. On the spin cycle it would be shaking like mad and pulling against the sticks like sh@t! Even bolts could only withstand that sort of force for so long I'd have thought before the assembly cracks. It seems the drum/tub assemblies are available for about £100 but whats the point when you can get a brand new one with guarantee for about £200 these days without the hassle of replacing the tub?! Such a shame because in the old days you could replace just the bearings for about a tenner with bearings from your local appliance spares or hardware shop. Those were the days!

    • @AdeReeves
      @AdeReeves  Před 2 lety

      In built failure for sure....I remember years ago i did the bearings twice in an old Hotpoint , and it was still going strong when i sold it ...seems the life expectancy of just about everything is sub 10 years... and they complain its us spoiling the planet ...

    My Hotpoint machine the bearings have worn so I'm looking at ebac washing machines I was looking at Samsung first and I watched a guy on CZcams who has a Samsung and it's a spider which is made of aluminium attached to a stainless steel drum and the aluminium errodes and bits fall off and the guy didn't recommend Samsung,what I like about ebac it's easy to put a new bearing in as the drum is in two parts .

  • @wardy2002
    @wardy2002 Před 2 lety +1

    You can buy the inner and outer drums as a pre assembled unit. With new barings already installed. About £150. On line. I'm still debating whether to do this or buy a new washing machine.

    • @AdeReeves
      @AdeReeves  Před 2 lety +1

      I guess its an option if you can fit it yourself, but probably not economical if you need to get someone to do it for you ....new machines are just dirt cheap now unfortunately, promoting the throw away society
