For most my life sci-fi and comic books were considered a nerd thing that most women wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole (yeah I know a small percentage like my wife liked it, but that was unusual)…. Until they became billion dollar industry with a lot of power and prestige attached to them… then all of a sudden a bunch of progressive feminists suddenly came out of the woodwork and felt entitled to take it over…. And they immediately ran it into the ground.

I took my little brother to go see Rise of Skywalker in theaters because I'm the one who introduced him to Star Wars and he asked me to take him. I genuinely think that was the last time I spent any money on Disney Star Wars. As a black man, and more relevant to topic at hand, a lifetime Star Wars fan, the complete disregard for the legacy and fans of this franchise cannot be forgiven. Race and gender were never a problem in Star Wars until Disney got their hands on it. They will burn everything to the ground before they admit that they failed to capitalize on the most profitable fictional franchise in history.

@ThisIsSparta300 that's what I hated most about the Daisy Riddley trilogy. The first one was alright. If you take in to account, she was a Mary Sue from the start. Seriously she went from a no name nobody scavenger to flying the fucking Millennium Falcon in like 10 minutes. No training needed. But she'd never left the planet before?
Then she goes from baby force user to being a Jedi Master in less than a movie. No training needed. Then they tanked Luke Skywalker while killing off the entire original cast in the most idiotic ways possible. Aside from Space Jesus Leia, that is. And don't even get me started on them literally killing everyone who was an actual Skywalker all so Rey fucking PALPATINE could steal the name.

"Democratic" isn't even the correct label, otherwise everyone would have a voice, including the classic fans. They want a gay audience. They insist upon gayness in our faces and when we look away, they freak out, despite telling us it isn't for us. There's nothing wrong with gay people, but they are a tiny sliver of the population, despite what the shows try to portray. It isn't a big enough audience even at its maximum, and they aren't even getting that maximum, particularly when they are driving away their already massive audience in favor of it. It's downright criminally negligent as officers of a publicly-traded company.

@@andrewlowden322 I believe that's at least partially down to Bob Iger having made his bed and now having to lie in it. Iger expanded Disney immensely during his run as CEO by buying all those franchises and/or studios. He then had the illusion that he could switch to being a politician and therefore catered to the Far-Left activists; the deal in my opinion being that HE would usher them into key positions within Disney and they would support his political aspirations. That deal went south though: as soon as the activists had dug into Disney, they dropped Iger like a hot potato.

It's just such a sad state of affairs what has happened to Star Wars and just Disney and their IPs in general. I really do try to give their shows and movies a chance but with the Acolyte I just couldn't anymore. It's just so unbearable and as you said, Disney and their infinite wisdom blames the REAL fans for their failures. What's really sad, too, is for those with kids who really should be enjoying what the real essence of Disney used to be. That "essence" is gone and has been for a long time.

Since my childhood, I've always disliked Disney, and my first thoughts when they acquired Star Wars was "so this is how Star Wars dies, in a thunderous applause." Though I gave them a chance with TFA, TLJ was the nail in the coffen for me, and ROS was the 6 feet of dirt being shoved all over the corpse of something I once held as special (despite some issues with the prequels). I'm just glad others are finally realizing it.

Jay, Anheiser Busch (US owner of Budweiser) didn't back track on the Bud Light 2023 fiasco. They tried to double down very early on, then went silent on the issue and tried changing their marketing (which you described). Had they back tracked and apologised instead of trying to misdirect and memory hole their beer would likely still be in the top 3 by sales in North America. Tractor Supply recently suffered a similar issue and they did backtrack and apologise, which has seemed to go over well with their customers. The problem with Disney is that it doesn't understand itself, its market, or how it is designed to create intergenerational revenue streams selling stuff to people they don't need, often can't own, and keep them coming back for more.

There are people who do enjoy this show and others entirely because of the diverse cast and messaging. 1) Maybe Disney is appealing to that audience by shaming traditional fans and maybe they are actually making money from it. 2) From a raw marketing data perspective, all engagement looks the same. It is probably really hard for Disney to measure the actual impact of the critical voices. Loud feedback makes things trend on the internet regardless if it is negative or positive. Again, this strategy might be working for them.

Ever since Frank Wells died in 1994 Disney has been a vision-less mess, floating aimlessly from one social cause to the next, all while maximizing profit to absurd degrees. It’s something I’ve thought about a lot. Our problems started with Eisner’s downward spiral in the mid-90s and they have yet to fix it. He still to this day cannot accept the fact that Dave Filoni signed off everything we are seeing in Acolyte. Not to mention he initially loved the sequels. He only "changed his mind" about them when Pablo Hidalgo made fun of him for crying in the Mandalorian season 2 finale because of key jangling Luke and Theory read the room that no one likes the sequels besides shills so he said he doesn't like them. All you gotta do is jangle some keys with Anakin/Vader, Jedi/Sith, cameos, The Force and he is like "yeah this is good Star Wars!". Guy wouldn't know good writing and character development if it hit him in the face.
@7:35 Please don't compare yourself to Tyrone Magnus. You are amazing and can form your own train of thought and come up with valid criticism. Tyrone Magnus just jumps on the bandwagon of what's in and goes with that. He saw its "cool to hate on Star Wars" and did the same. Also only 7 year olds watch react videos these days. I was just saying this the other day. The biggest thing that stands out to me is how the people involved in these projects believe they deserve praise simply for doing anything at all. They don't believe themselves responsible for competency, just unconditional praise and admiration.
It seems like the narcissists in charge there are just surrounding themselves with other narcissists and sycophants. I do genuinely think they are narcissists. The interview where George Lucas was describing how there are actually evil people who "think" they're doing good and Kathleen Kennedy tried to make excuses for those types of behaviora was a pretty clear demonstration of that. She wants to remain undetected as a narcissist, which is another common trait.
Also, Leslye Headland's former associations are suspect...
