The 5 Heartbeats is one of my all time favorite movies. I have it on DVD and have the soundtrack on CD. Robert Townsend is definitely a legend for directing and starring in this movie. It's a classic for the African American community and those who love that "Motown" feel of music. The whole group killed their roles! Thank you for this lifetime memory and classic.

Met him in Memphis Tennessee. He doesn't cheat or disrespect his lady when she is not around. He was on his best behavior out of her presence. I am best friends with Robert Townsend on social media, he is respectful towards women as well. Both are down to earth and very sweet men. So so respectful!❤️

It was about several different groups & artists
The five heartbeats was based off of a lot of groups, it was basically showing them in a different light. The dells were shown at the end of the movies because they are the ones that sung the songs. Look it up!

The Dells are pictured and credited at the end of the movie. I've never understood the confusion.
The confusion is, it was clear that the movie was inspired by the Temptations. At that point nobody knew who the Dells were or why they were shown.
Hearing Leon say that Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin were supposed to be the original consultants makes a LOT more sense to me on why certain parts of the movie felt different to other parts. Like the first half of it felt like Temptations and the second half was something totally different.
If Kendricks and Ruffin (RIP both) got involved, it definitely would have gotten lawsuits happening because of everything that was going on at that time.
