Mate your absolutely right about education on fire starting, when I went to a semi wild campsite in April, I actually had to start the camp fires for the youngsters on the neighboring pitch... They were trying to a light a log with matches... I gave them a quick talk on firefighting for dummies, but basically mankind has regressed to the point where he has no mastery of fire.

Great video. I'm glad you pointed out the importance of permission from the land owner. As a woodland owner, it's heartbreaking when we turn up and find we've had uninvited visitors. Firepits dug indiscriminately, wood dragged from where its been neatly and safety stacked. Our simple little log seating area turned upside down. Chopped, firewood and half burnt wood left laying about. Sorry to hijack a lovely video but anyone reading this, please respect private woodland... leave no trace! What we don't see and have to clean up, we aren't going to be too upset about.

To sum what I think is most important in this video; be aware of the environment that you're going to stay- perhaps spend a night or two at each spot you like-, find a sturdy shelter for all seasons of any price, don't cheap out on your sleep system, know how to produce a fire using several methods, get proper cooking equipment, good wool clothes and focus on living a cost effective, self-sufficient, comfortable life

ANOTHER FINE VIDEO! I admire your chance to live long-term in a friendly forest. I also have been admiring your setup as your adventures have unfolded. This video is chock-a-block with REAL information. My experience with the Kelly Kettle system was mixed: I read the instructions and then left the cork IN during my first boil-up. I was not seriously burned. I certainly agree with your idea of a mix of quality and sensible thrift in putting an entire kit together. Older cast iron RULES! I note that YOUR fry pan has a longer handle than we typically can purchase in the USA. The extra leverage of the longer handle offsets the extra weight of the pan. I, too, use a mix of old and new and of heavy and lightweight items in my outdoor adventures.

We have 35 acres of land to use for camping out on and I use it sometimes for that, but mainly let it grow back up since we sold the timber on the land. The state has many parks which people can campout on for overnight and several days rental cottages for those who want to get away from home to be in the forest.

  • @wookiejesusofnazarethkashy1940

As soon as my house sale closes my son and I are going to move to a camp we're building on a friend's property. We'll be raising our chickens and turkeys and getting some rabbits and a few goats. We'll do some gardening too. We plan to cut and mill some trees to make some simple cabins while living in tents. I hate to leave it when we get done working on it for the day, but we have 6 dogs and we're not quite set up to take them all for an over-nighter yet. Can't wait to get out there for good. Been feeling the call of the wild for too long now.

i've been thinking about doing this for about 6 or 7 years, as i am sick and tired of the rat race and paying every single penny i earn to inflated rent and bills. so tired of feeling like a slave to the system, it stresses me out and that's not a real life for anyone.
My main problem has always been, how do i find some woodlands to live in that i don't own ?.. until i can save enough money to buy some land, how would i start off ?
So really happy to find channel's like this one, to help me understand everything involved with going off grid and living a real life for once...
only difference would be, i wouldn't be hunting those beautiful animals, i'de be painting them :)

13:33 - Not sure if you are going to read this, but I have a question about arctic tent... how do you keep it from moulding as its it raining in the UK quite often, does the heat inside helps to dry the tent thus preventing mould or does the material itself is resistant to water, preventing leaks and absorb water... I am just wonder as in the near future I would like to purchase such tent, but if I will pay £500-600 for the tent just to find out it will start getting mould after a year, that would be quite expensive temporary shelter... How long have you got that tent and did you notice any patches of mould?

This seems like such a fun thing to do and your could save a lot money doing it, but it's illegal to live in your tent in most countries, even on private property. How do you do it?

You would do better in Portugal. I have a home there which I am working on but I camp in the wooded garden. I may buy more land. I am in the UK now teaching to finance everything I have a stealth camp where I am constructing a small stealth cabin. I am thriving.

Even with permission from the landowners, if the council clock on they will move to enforce removal. Does that worry you?

Wow. It would be good to have water. Watch CZcams “Girl in the Woods”” in the USA. The mosquitoes on her land are really bad. Be careful. Deb from Oz
