They're basically 40k version of brotherhood of steel, both horde advanced technology, only a tiny minority will invent/improve upon it and both think people who are not affiliated with their orders who use or make new technology need to be destroyed or controlled.
well... the brotherhood of steel is kind of a mishmash of the adeptus astartes and the adeptus mechanicus
well if you kill and destroy every heretic the only science left is the one that follow religion

Is it just me or do the titans not look "mechanicum" enough?
I mean look at the skitarii, all bits and pieces hanging off and attached.

i love the titans, but i also love logic. so it hurts to see so many weapons in warhammr firing projectiles but never have enough ammunition to really make it a serious weapon ... i can understand when they use laser and so on, and feeding them by giant generators inside, but matter has to come from anywhere it cant be just created ...

I would like to know if adeptus mechanicus were not so orthodox so imperial science and technologies could improve to more advanced technology.
Your forgetting that it's the Imperium itself that has put a halt to a lot of the group's research efforts to advance tech and instead just maintain it. A bit of the reason why so much of Mars rebelled with Horus was the constraint they felt about being forbidden to do research into field the Emperor saw as dangerous. In a odd way one can view those who rebelled for this reason as being the truly orthodox of their faith in the will of the Machine god, not those who chose to remain bound by the Imperium's limitations.
BigBroLittleSis1 but the adeptus mechanicus acknowledged the emperor as the embodiment of the machine god right?. The emperor himself has set a limitation only in the research of advanced AI to prevent the creation of the iron men. So ecclesiarchy was the one whose forbid adeptus mechanicus to conduct most kinds of advanced research.
