- I compared two of the consensus top basketball anime and listed the good, the bad and everything in between. This is a touchy subject I know, and you'll see my answer of which one I like more at the end, but both of these shows are f$%king awesome. Not often I get to do a video where two of my favorite things (anime/cartoons and hoops/sports) crossover. Let me know what you think, even if you disagree with anything I said in this video. Be nice now lol.

One of things i also love about slam dunk is the development of sakuragi at first he only wanted to play basketball in order to impress haruko but at the end of the series he fell in love with playing basketball that the prospect of not being able to play basketball scares him

Way better, I've read and watched both. Kuroko no Basket supposedly epic scenes seems lacking on anime compared to reading it on manga. Plus the character art on Slam Dunk more distinct than Kuroko no Basket. Kuroko no Baskets characters almost all have pointy hair with hair color.
What's cool is that Kuroko no Basket x Hinomaru Sumo did a crossover filler chapter. Hinomaru Sumo is a sumo manga it's really great sports anime. I don't even watch Sumo but they made sumo cool and interesting. I have to warn you that the manga is great but the anime is not good. I would not recommend the anime but I highly recommend the manga.

I personally like them both but slam dunk is better and I love it more due to the fact it's more realistic when it comes to being a sports anime. In slam dunk the games can go either way for both teams competing against each other. In kuroko if you got a teammate who can do zone or got a generation of miracle teammate it's a automatic win and pretty broken. I also love in slam dunk how they break down the basics more of basketball, It gives you a better feel for the game. No disrespect to kuroko but it's just more eye candy at best.

Both sides give good vibes. Honestly, I would prefer to go with the Slam Dunk simply because the nostalgia, and the players we can relate to the players back then. The flaws I feel in Slam Dunk is the slow pace like all the animes back in the 90s. If there even is a Slam Dunk return, I can tell you, it definitely will NOT be this slow paced, they'll definitely speed up the story and writing.
well ya i wish they animate the national championship. my take is because unlike most modern sport anime. the main protagonist actually lost in the end.

Slam Dunk hands down. Also, it came first. As soon as I heard the description for Kuroko I was trying to figure out what they changed the name when the rebooted SD. :)

it's not old vs new and nostalgia and shit some of my favorite stories are super new and some others are super old, slam dunk just has amazing writing and beautiful art, inoue sensei says he treats his stories as documentaries about his character that's why we connect with them they're stories about people not about the sport, his story "real" about disabled basketball players is also amazing all his work is just great
I think Slam Dunk is better but i might be biased bc Slam Dunk made me fall in love with basketball when i didn't care at all for the sport and now i love it but Kuroko in no way is as bad as ppl make it to be
Good points for me as someone who is not a basketball fan/player:
● Kuroko no Basket = storyline, animation, visuals, creativity (for tropes and other elements like each player's powers), and more advanced basketball skills
● Slam Dunk = storyline, more sport-centered, educational, character development, humor, and connection to the viewer (probably more preferred even by non-anime viewers)
Both are great and entertaining. But I like Slam Dunk better. Its memorability is engraved more to me.

The fact that the last part of the video had one of Slam Dunk's opening songs in the background made me predict that the final result will favorite that show. I watched both many times and I like them both. However, leaving every technical aspect aside, the writing in Slam Dunk delivers and conveys stronger emotions for me. I guess the fact that Sakuragi being able to somehow master his jump shot was, for me, way stronger emotionally than Kagami being finally able to unlock Zone Level 2. That's why it is my favorite. I even loved it more when I took off the manga where the anime stopped, discovering that the climax of Sakuragi-Rukawa dynamic appealed more to me than the Kuroko-Kagami one. Too bad the story was cut short...

im in the process of rewatching both of these right now, and i feel the same ways that you do! I rewatched slam dunk, and im almost done rewatching all of Kuroko. After i finish my Kuroko rewatch, i will be reading the slam dunk manga. im assuming you probably have had bare people tell you to read the manga, so imma hug being another drop in that bucket. thanks for the great video!!

Don't see why everyone main point is it's realistic like it's anime doesn't have to be realistic if you like that cool but that's a personal taste there are tons of anime that aren't realistic yet are great
@@dx-dragon4399 because it’s the proof that you don’t need superpowers to make it full of tension and enjoyable. And that’s not something I say, it’s something the world say. An example? Everytine they make a new anime of captain tsubasa (I lost the count) it’s always less unrealistic, at first the ball became a flashing frisbee that destroyed walls and players could jump 20 meters from the ground, in the next versions the ball became less and less tight until it maintained the spherical shape and they could jump less and less high, last time I checked they could jump barely above the crossbar. Still unrealistic, but it went from dragon ball super level to original dragon ball level.
And if people really loved unrealistic over realistic sport anime, they would just make it more and more unrealistic, not the other way around. They do what it sells more and the more the story of an anime is good the less you need superpowers to entertain the audience. Just like The Rock’s movies, when they do not have a well written plot then they go with special effects and bullshit plot choices.
@@Kal911 I get your that they could make it unrealistic to cover up it being a bad story but they can have both I watch anime for unrealistic if I want realistic basketball I would just play basketball in real life myself one of the benefits of anime is it's over the top and can lead to really hype moments someone dunking is cool someone dunking while doing a 360 and fully jumping over another person is better I don't watch nba because I would rather just play it myself than watch people dragon ball being unrealistic is a plus a fist fight that there throwing punches lighting fast and teleporting makes it more entertaining ya if there doing it to hide other bad things than yes but you can have unrealistic and a good anime

Not Gonna lie. You can tell the author’s love for Basketball with Slam Dunk. I couldn’t feel the same love and dedication to the sport with Kuroko. Yes Kuroko was inspired by Slam Dunk but I feel like it was a more so a tribute to Slam Dunk rather than a tribute to the sport. Yes Kuroko has hype moments, but I don’t see the passion for Basketball. Lets take The Prince of Tennis for example. It’s literally DBZ Tennis just like how Kuroko is DBZ Basketball. The players have powers and what not. But the difference is, you can feel the authors love for the sport of Tennis through his characters. So it makes it more the super powers more tolerable than Kuroko. Like Slam Dunk its a coming of age story and Ryoma has to learn what much Tennis means to him find his own style of Tennis rather than being a carbon copy of his father. Kuroko is just a generic goal of being the best in Japan like most other sports anime. Its hype. But Slam Dunk is far superior

Both are good. I will say that the argument that KnB is worse because it's unrealistic don't understand that realism doesn't always mean something is better. Yeah, KnB has some superpowered moments, but everything is based off Basketball, just dialed up to 11. Slam Dunk is fantastic, and the original Basketball manga that changed Japan, it without a doubt has the best evolution and development of its characters, whereas Kuroko has a stronger story driven plot. You can like both, and you can think one is better than the other, at the end of this day this debate is pointless. This is literally the LeBron vs MJ goat debate, it will never be solved and it’s a matter of opinion.

Kuroko have a better story driven plot? I disagreed. That's a big no. Each member of Shohoku have well developed story and character development and you recognizes it. None of them were "Generation of miracle". While I remember the characters from KNB with their outrageous and cool basketball skills. I remember character from Slam Dunk base on each and everyone of their struggles and coming of age through basketball. And that is how Slam Dunk literally inspire a generation of Asian to play basketball.

Great vid nice analysis I finished knb prolly like 2yrs ago and rewatched and read slam dunk like few months ago in the pandemic I like slam dunk better for the comedy and art style I won’t I love it becuz of it’s realness and shit like everybody say becuz koruko did a really good job doing that and still one of my top 10 sports anime of all time but SD will always be my fav can’t wait for the movie well I actually wanted a remake but that’s okay

I'm biased in favor towards knb myself and have watched a few episodes of Slam Dunk + found it enjoyable but maybe a bit too dated for my tastes. I mean, KnB is good but Slam Dunk is one of the all time great manga of any genre. It is definetely up there with the likes of One Piece and Dragon Ball. The SD anime adaptation is not the greatest but If we are judging them by the manga there is really no question.

The main flaw of slam dunk is the animation i agree with you. But that flaw doesnt exist in the manga. In the manga you can see why slam dunk is so praise. The drawing is simply perfect and have a LOT a details. I first read the manga and after saw the anime and the anime doesnt make justice to the quality of the manga. That is why before compare the shows we need to read the manga of slam dunk first. The story is even deeper and have a greeeat ending and the drawing is awesome.

I grew up watching Slam Dunk. Due to the way it ended, we wanted more from the series. The theme songs brought back childhood memories.
To me its like comparing Jordan to LeBron. Slam Dunk being the pioneer and inspiration to Kuroko No Basuke. You definitely see a lot of similarities between them. Both main characters with red hair merely a coincidence? 😂

i have just finished watching slam dunk and it is some of the best anime that i have ever seen. I love the comedy, the characters and their development and definitely the intense basketball games. I love this much better than KnB because it is much more realistic and they don't have stupid powers and you feel genuine excitement and sorrow for the slam dunk characters. Overall SLAM DUNK IS THE BEST ANIME THAT I HAVE SEEN

Slam Dunk is one of the old school anime, they may have lacked animations and could be a pain for the eyes at times, but it had soul. Different era of anime. Not that the newer anime are bad, they just aren't the same.

Slam dunk is basically normal basketball just more dramatic and animated , kuruko on the other hand feels like an anime which is kinda realistic but not much and the animation is crisp and also I never been so hyped so angry or happy when I watch it

WTF with kind of "vanishing Drive", "mirage shot", "Zone concept" .. while in reality the basic technique is more applicable.. rebound, screen out, and joyment of dunk which Sakuragi tell us
I loved Kuroko but I think there are major pacing issues from season 2. Cutting some of the matches shorter would have enabled some additional story. I still adore the show but when an anime match gets as long as a real match and it's 50% random flashbacks and reactions to what is happening, it can become a bit boring.
Haven't watched Slam Dunk yet, I can't compare them.

If you love basketball/played basketball and understand it's nuances, Kuroko doesn't even compete with Slam Dunk. If you love anime and don't care about the sport, then it does.

I started playing basketball in middle school because of Slam Dunk. Then participated in high school tournament and we got second place. I founded a team later and we played in many tournaments a d we are quite well known in the basketball community of our country. But after watching a couple of episodes of Kuroko No Basket, I wanted to quit playing basketball. 😂😂😅 Fell in love with basketball because of Slam Dunk and KNB made me feel disgusted. I am 31 now btw.

We just don't really have time anymore. My friends still play for fun every now and then but we are facing military coup right now so, we are protesting everyday. No more basketball, no more fun.

Both are amazing anime, haters don't want to admit. As someone who enjoyed & loves them a lot, I hate to see some fans' audacity to bring any of the series down to make themselves feel better on preferring one of the shows.
For me slam dunk is better. I love the characters, it’s slightly unique comedy, the tension, and to me slam dunk is more relatable. I only read slam dunk manga and I’m probably not gonna watch the anime lol. I think after this I’m going to pick up the author’s other bball manga ‘real’.
Old school basketball anime is the best which is Slam Dunk.

Slam Dunk absolutely destroys Kuroko No Basket without a question , There are no comparisons whatsoever , Slam Dunk got everything spot on ,,,, Intense moments , Amazing showcase of basketball Skills , Epic moments , Story , Characters Development , Legendary hype music , High Rewatch ability , Beloved characters , Comedy , No bullshit Shounen Power ups , Etc.

For me I like Slam Dunk much more than KnB because Slam Dunk anime/manga motivates me to play basketball more and train my skills more unlike KnB.. KnB is nice but Slamdunk is just way tooo good for me since I can relate to their hardwork and determination to win... She may not have the most experience but the coach of slam dunk just sits there lmao, he only puts players in games or out of games and then motivates them.

I can't stand kuroko's mediocrity. The mediocre character designs, shallow written characters and just the silly battle shounen approach.
Of course, slam dunk is not perfect. But Inoue really knows how to write compelling characters like Mitsui. Plus the soundtrack is lit.
Slam Dunk is the closest to perfect imo. The First Slam Dunk movie especially is the best sport writing I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I played sports my entire life and frequently consumed sports media. I can confidently say Slam Dunk is the best piece of basketball fiction ever told, extending beyond just anime.

Koroko is just another "pretty bois does things well" with some of the most cringe abilities you can think of.
You can imagine playing versus Sakuragi and the rest.
You can relate to the journey.
In Koroko its just BS after BS.
The story is fine,
the characters are likeable and the art is great,
But as an overall Basketball story,
Slam Dunk gets the W each and every time.

Even in the anime it was better choreographed. Choreography = sequence of movements. Maybe the animation was better in Kuroko, but the sequence of movements/events in Slam Dunk was much better due to it being engrained in actual basketball knowledge of strengths/weakness/counters.
