this is a review of the flextail max shower.
A simple and light weight rechargeable portable outdoor shower, that is going to find it's way into the back of the pajero for camping duties both as a shower and likely as an additional to the sink for wash up duties.

Looks good to me in that it doesn’t empty the water supply in the bucket in two minutes flat like others do. I can vouch for the Flextail mini air pump. I used it every day for 5 weeks when camping recently. It is so tiny but is surprisingly quick at topping up my Exped air mattress. You may not use it yourself but I reckon a lot of us campers would use it. It is also a lamp and can be used to charge your phone. And it deflates as well as inflates. And costs peanuts!
The light spray from the head certainly makes efficient use of the available water. Ive also seen the others rush through the water too. I have seen others reviews on the pumps they have and everyone seems to be positive. Whilst some of flextails gear isnt for me, I do like to jump on their website now and then to window shop :)
Certainly better than the cylindrical shower pumps. The last one that I had from a reputable company ran out of water and within 10 seconds burnt out😢.

Hey Den Monkey, I just got one of these and the white clip at the top near the shower head isn't a clamp for the connector, it's a small handle you can pull out and it's how you'd hook it to a tree or suspended device. As for a water bucket, my favorite camping solution is collapsable 5 gal bucket with a locking lid. I got a couple for water conservation and realized they make great camping gear because they collapse down flat and pack in gear nicely. Some have locking lids. They're all over Amazon, easy to find and not expensive. Thanks for your review!
Hi Egyrl, yeah I figured that one out 😁 there's pics on their website showing it stuck to a car with a suction cup. I too have a collapsible bucket. I love my collapsible stuff 😁 iit certainly is an efficient way to wash. Tell me, were you as impressed with the feel of the spray? I'm not sure what it was about it, but it felt wonderful.
@@DENMONKEY yeah, I was very impressed with the spray. And I also like that this pump can turn the spray off at the head instead of having to reach into the bucket and pause the pump itself between rinses. It’s a better shower pump than a unit I got just 6 months ago. After hiking and sweating all day and you’re on a 3-5 day camping trip, there’s just nothing like being able to get clean before crawling into a synthetic sleeping bag! lol
I've had a couple of the cheap showers over the years and both have had the pumps failed but they were less substantial than this one.
Last time we went away I bought a 15l stainless steel bucket from Miter 10 as the campground had a bucket shower.
Chucked the bucket in the fire and Roberts your Father's Brother.
I would prefer to see an external power switch as running pumps dry is a big no no.
We have to do a bathroom reno next year and I already have a shower tent so one of these might be on the list.
Hi OB, yes I would have liked to see it cut out when the water ran out but I figured for such a compact unit a cut out switch may not be possible. I'm not real sure though. I've already sussed out the metal buckets at bunnings for just that purpose. That said , they didnt look the quality of metal buckets Ive seen in the past. The way it is I guess. As for longevity of the unit. I can't say. it is basically just a pump and they can fail pretty easily. I always keep a spare pump for my fish tanks for that exact reason.
For anyone wondering you can use hot water with this, says it can stand with hot water just shouldn’t be over 140 degrees Fahrenheit

The adapter on the bottom is so you can put it on a mount or tripod and use it in the river or stream

Looks the goods. Might have to look into one of these soon, shame I wont be able to get one before my Bday in Jan though as I am planning a week long trip and it would come in very handy. About $80 AUD is probably on the high side of what I would like to spend but it does look good, I like the adjustable speed and nozzle.

I've had a couple of cheaper showers over the years and both times the pump seized after not a lot of use.
wish it had been around in August when my old primus one died in the NT, spent over $110 for the companion version.. this looks a better package and would be great for transferring water into the van tank as well as showers... the flextail website could do without the bloody music though, damn annoying
$110 is a bit steep. I used to like campanion stuff but Ive seen some of their fridges and solar generator/battery packs fail relatively recently. I'd still try their stuff but theyre not a brand at the top of my list anymore. Music ? I dont get any. I just went to the Au and normal websites and still didnt get any. Curious where that is coming from ? I sat there for a bit in case it needed time to load, but still got nothing. I do have adblocker on , so maybe that is killing it. that is odd though. I'll pass it on

woudl it work nicely to wash a pushbike? and a car or motorbike? do you think it'd have enough pressure/flow?
Did you find out what temperature water it can take?
Impressive, I got Pajero 2010, I got & use 1 for long trips ,bbut not as good as this 1, will upgrade
out of curiosity, how are you carrying your water in the paj? I'm looking for ideas for mine
@@DENMONKEYI’m carrying 60L in a heavy duty water bladder which sits on the floor between the front and back seats. It has a clip on hose fitting so it’s easy to drain water in to a bucket or water bottle.
@@wwfgumby got ya. I can't fit one of those because of the bed over the back. I'm considering a rebuild though and would work something into the new design. Cheers

@@DENMONKEY The obvious advantage of a bladder is that when it's empty, it takes up bugger all room.
We use a Whale inline pump, goes into virtually all containers

I think I have one of those in the shed. when I picked up a second hand water tank it came with one. Never did get around to using it for anything though.
denmoneky i have a question and i hope you can help me out, i noticed your jackery solar generator, i've also watch the review of it, but is any other you would recomend for cheaper price but still good, one that is good enough to run a camper fridge and lights at night bearing in minds that will always get 100% sun because north africa, i really want some thoughts about a cheap but reliable option for that purpose. Thanks
Im afraid I dont off the top of my head. Ive got bluetti, ecoflow and the jackery but none of them are what I would call budget friendly but I havent really checked what else it out there to know. I can tell you to avoid the campanion on. A mate picked on up and it failed first week and was very very limited on input and output despite having a decent size battery. Lucky for him get got a refund and went with something else. For what your describing, you'd need one with at least 1000wh of capacity if not more to get you through a warm night with a fridge. These little 250wh odd units wont make it overnight. So I'd suggest just getting a cheap 100-120ah lithium battery and say a renogy solar controller and set it up for yourself. If would work for what you need and you'd save quite a bit of money. If you think you need the inverter side, than things start looking better for an all in one unit.

No. It's a smaller version. So won't fit

i think theoretically it should, the flextail pump (not including the height of the hose attachment point but that is L shaped and can likely be pivoted when inserting) is supposed to be 2.7in tall, and the mouth of the scepter can is 3.5in.
so it should be fine but i haven’t tested it (i’m watching this video bc i’ve had the same idea as you haha)
good news! i just got my hands on both today, it fits just fine through the mouth of the scepter 10L jug (which should have the same exact diameter as the 20L). you have to angle it right to get it back out but it’s no trouble.

i would not buy it if it was over 25€
you're not getting much sub 50 bucks here in Aus for a rechargeable unit . I checked it out. For a known brand name but that appear to be of lesser quality, you're still looking at about 70-80. Plus we get hammered here in Australia sometimes with prices on things.
