  • This is Southern Television's penultimate edition of 'Houseparty' broadcast on Wednesday 30/12/1981. The ladies make reference to the 'Party' which was the final edition of 'Houseparty' broadcast on 31/12/81 although that was recorded on 27/10/81. Presumably studio space subsequently required for TVS productions.

Gosh, this brings back memories of childhood, or being off sick from Primary School. Watched it with my late mum, and always thought how glam they all were.

I seem to remember Meridian Broadcasting [As it was called then] had thier own version of Houseparty from 1993. I seem to remember Lucy passed away very young. Such happy times!

Yes I would guess that the studio space was then required for TVS' productions once Southern had ended alas. I presume that this was recorded at their main-then-Television Centre at Northam in Southampton at the time; which I know sadly is not there now then. Thank you of course anyway!

Lucy Morgan, the lady in the middle of the three ladies shown at the beginning, sadly died 3 years later of a brain tumour.

Interested how you tracked down the date of Lucy's passing. I think she lived near Hurstpierpoint (or Hassocks?) in Sussex. I think she had a daughter also called Lucy, and two sons? Is there a grave somewhere?

Daphne Lee is clearly a cut above class-wise amongst the Houseparty ladies. Especially noticeable with Viviane: when quoting the price of a bottle of whiskey, she drops the 's' in pounds - dead give away!

There was a very rough script and the topics were pre-agreed but mostly ad libbed. The point was that you were meant to feel you were dropping in on a friends conversation.
