    *Story 1:* Assuming the story is true, talk about crazy mother in law and sister. They don't deserve any money after the way they treat OP's wife. It's worse than awful. I would've not only cut off contact with controlling mother and sister-in-law, but I would've flat-out refused to give them any money. They deserve no such things.

    • @YourShadowKeeper
      @YourShadowKeeper Před měsícem

      If the wife is concerned about having outstanding debt and being cut off from the extended family due to the mother's claims, OP and their wife could request that the mother send them a copy of the tax invoice the mother paid off, then go over every bank transfer or cash transfer the wife has given the mother to pay off said debt. Whatever is outstanding (possibly far less than the $900 claimed) they should send an email or text stating clearly that the debt for the tax invoice - including all details regarding the tax invoice - is now paid in full, as per X payments over this period (state the date of each payment and the amount). Then state clearly that since this debt is now paid in full there should be no further discussions regarding said former debt needed. Then go low to no contact, and make it clear to the extended family before the mother has a chance to spin the story with lies and half-truths. It's not because OP's wife is upset she paid a bill but because of the mother and sister's manipulative, abusive, and increasingly aggressive and unhinged behaviour.

    Story 3: NTA. The OP didn’t ask to be born, and shouldn’t be an unpaid babysitter for the nieces and nephews. And yes, the parents and siblings DO mistreat OP. “Old”, “Different Generation”, no excuses for domestic slavery.

  • @QuickManEXE
    @QuickManEXE Před měsícem +8

    Story 1: Okay, why is the OP and the wife even remotely in contact with this awful MIL? She clearly favors the sister here and doesn't give a crap about the wife at all. Just because they are "family" does not mean you need to be in contact with them, especially when she refers to your child as 'work'. That alone should've been an eye-opener for the wife here. OP and the wife have no reason to apologize for anything here and definitely do not need to give her a single penny. Keeping that phone line is just a really sad and pathetic attempt to both control her life and a way to basically extort money from here in the future.
    Story 2: No way is the OP a jerk here, and the cousin here is a major drama queen.... good grief. Its only toilet paper.... seriously, what the heck is wrong with her? I would've laughed at her too.
    Story 3: OP isnt a jerk here, though they shouldn't be stringing them alone. Just re-inforce the fact that you aren't going to do anymore unpaid babysitting for anybody here. Set those boundaries and be very strict about them. You are not obligated to be taking care of your siblings kids, no matter where or how old they are. Once the OP is 18, i would consider going low contact with some of the people in this family.
    Story 4: If this your money or joint money, then no, not the jerk at all. If this is his money and only his money, then yes you'd be the jerk. My opinions on a $3000 bag aside, if this is your money, then you can buy whatever you want. Just make sure you are able to pay your debts and mortgages and dont live outside your means.
    Story 5: OP is not a jerk at all, and frankly, he needs to get a seperate lawyer here too. I can almost be sure that the mom, stepdad and step-siblings are going to try and do something underhanded to make sure that they get something out of the trust. I get that the mom and stedad struggled with money and the one step-sibling had medical issues, this shouldnt fall on the OPs shoulders. If he wants to help the step-siblings, then thats totally up to him here. If they keep up with the guilt tripping, i would consider cutting contact.

    Yeah i'm with the boyfriend in the story about the purse. Narrator brought how people spend that kind of money on computers and car parts but those are all things with a practical value. A woman who would spend three grand on an accessory is either a gold digger or a snob. Neither of which is something a guy wants to be associated with.

    • @user-zy9tj1xu3c
      @user-zy9tj1xu3c Před měsícem +4

      I'm sorry, how is spending 3 grand on a purse a gold digger in any way? It's only a gold digger if the OP was using the BF money in any sort of way, which she isn't. She's using her own money to pay for this purse (which yes, I agree is stupid). I think you're using the term "gold digger" in the wrong situation here friend.

    The kid in the last story. Because parents pay 50/50, and your mother struggled so much. Although it is not your responsibility, you could calculate what it cost to raise you, to the age of 18. Divided by 3 and put that in a college fund for your stepsisters. While in the interim telling your family that you will help them with their college fund in part.
    I mean I can't have kids, can't biologically have kids. And I'm leaving my money not to my siblings but, to their kids and a couple charities, that I already donate to. Skipping over my siblings.
    So if he took the money, that his dad would have contributed, if his parents were divorced. 50% although it is not in any way his responsibility as the child. It might relieve some strain on his current situation, assuming he doesn't hate, his stepsisters. And a college fund cannot be used to take a trip across the backcountry. You could set it up so the money would revert back to you if they didn't use it for college or vocational training.
    Now he's not obligated to do this at all, Eddie shouldn't give anything to his stepdad. But since the money comes from his dad and his bomb struggle to raise him without, any help from his dad. He could put what she put into his upbringing, torrid's what she said she would have spend the money on if she had had child support. Knowing full well she would use that money to improve the family's overall financial situation, while she was raising you. And this is only if it wouldn't greatly impact, him.
    And it sounds like his mother & stepdad didn't put too much into raising him. Of course when he receives the money he could always renege, he can't sign a contract like that until he's 18, and since mother would be pushing for him to sign something now, it would not be illegal for her to co-sign. Any two-bit lawyer could get him out of any promises he makes now. But again if he doesn't like his siblings, just plan on backing out.

    . I actually have a legality question here... _Is that money_ actually _100% OP's, like, legally speaking?_ OP definitely said her parents were separated *but still married* when her father died. _Soooo, wouldn't she be legally entitled to half his money, as his wife?_ Perhaps they had a prenup, or were _legally_ separated before his death?
    . Either way, I think OP may need to contact an attorney. _Preferably the same one that helped her father set up that trust for her._ Because she needs to cover her bases.

    Story 5: I get where OP's coming from and I wish I'd gad the courage to step away from being the family babysitter. I'm 31 and i still gravitate to my nieces and nephews at family gatherings cause I both have so much more in common with them at this point and because its basically trained into me to be with the kids and not the adults
    Last story: I have to assume that since OP was living with their mum before their dad passed, that means that the dad was paying child support? That means he WAS looking after OP's raising needs and the mum wnd stepdad have absolutely zero ground to stand on about trying to take any of OP's money. OP's dad left it for OP, it belongs to OP, and OP deserves the better start in life their father left them
