I’ve always thought this was the best performance of ANY female singer . Her voice is incredible . She was incredible on backup with Pink Floyd back in the day . Plus she truly finds joy in singing . When she’s not signing she’s smiling .
Heard the Something About the Beatles podcast featuring Sam this morning - she sounds absolutely lovely and must be one of our most underrated singers.
Underrated when you have had major hits and toured with Pink Floyd? Are you serious? I feel I recognise a guy named Eric Clapton playing the guitar on her left... Seems she pushed to much, not letting her voice enough rest: she ended with polyps and her voice is gone... Very sad
It’s on the DVD version that I have, but there’s also another version without it- and you’re correct that it’s (sadly) not on the concert album at all. I was apparently lucky enough to be gifted with the DVD that has everything on it. My luck is usually bad, so I was surprised that it ran good on this- and mine was the complete version. (I like to think that George somehow recognized my commitment and appreciation for his supreme musical artistry and vast vocal talents since day one, and cosmically sent it special my way as a reward!)
I love Sam Brown! The fact that Clapton couldn't be bothered mentioning her name means nothing. He didn't need to. Her performance said it all. For me, the highlight of the concert.
Incomparable rendering. As is everything she does. WHAT a voice. Why have a dozen million people not recognised this? She is one in a million. No wait. She is one in a dozen million!
Fell head over heels for Sam when I listened to her debut album Stop! Every time I watch this video (or any of hers) I'm on the verge of fainting... Visited London once and walked past the Royal Albert Hall. Wish I could have gone in and just sat there, imagining...
Sadly, Sam lost her singing voice a few years after this. They found a cyst on her vocal cords, and she had it removed, but it didn't fix the problem. Although she apparently released a lot of music over her career, which was somewhat popular in Europe, I think she was immortalized by this performance at the Concert for George. I never get tired of watching it, for the music, of course, but also for the eye candy.
You should know that Sam Brown is the daughter of musician Joe Brown - remember Joe Brown and the Bruvvers in the 60s? He took a large part in performing and organising Concert For George, as above. If you haven’t seen it, you have to! Don't take my word for it. Joe still tours today and is highly entertaining as well as a great musician.
@@stephenhowell5611 Yes you are so right. I should have included that her mum Vicki Brown was also a great singer. What a terribly sad loss, taken much too soon.
She recently released an album of her own songs, sadly she has to use autotune now due to a wrecked voice from singing like this, interesting stuff though.
la mejor version !!! lejosssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! la amo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! como se lució Sam Brown impresionante!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, I saw her with PF in 1994 in the Feijenoord stadium Rotterdam. Among other things, she sang the first part of Great Gig In The Sky. She as well as ALL the members of the band were dynamite!
Quite a few comments seem to suggest a lack of knowledge of the Harrison - Brown connection. Joe Brown (Sam's father) was a singer of some note back in the early sixties and a friend of George's (he also sings during the concert for George). Vicky Brown (Sam's mother) was also a singer and you can see her duet with George (here: czcams.com/video/T-B5MyLJwIA/video.html) on "Shanghai Surprise."
Natürlich ist die Performance über allem. Aber das Etikett an den Leihklamotten lässt einen fähigen Stylisten vermissen. Ich meine, sie ist so toll. Sie könnte in einem alten Pullover singen! Und alle wären im Moment verwandelt!
Jools Holland, one of the all-time greats. Played many years w Squeeze. He has collaborated with many of the best including many years w Sam. Check U-Tube "Night Music w Jools Holland & David Sanborn" also "Boogie Woogie Twins" from same.
There are at least two pianists here, though Jools Holland is who you are referring to. He originated with the band Squeeze in the 80s, then co-hosted TV show 'The Tube' with the late Paula Yates (Mrs. Bob Geldof, the l'amour of INXS's Michael Hutchence), before assembling the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Band and doing the BBC music performance show 'Later...with Jools Holland'. Check it out, he has fantastic guests. The other piano player - long straight hair, red shirt - is Chris Stainton, who first made his name with Joe Cocker. Stainton played bass on 'With A Little Help From My Friends' (Tommy Eyre played organ). He has been with Eric Clapton's band for many years. Sam Brown, who had a big 80s hit with 'Stop', was with Holland's band at the time of this gig band though had to leave when she literally lost her singing voice. In a recent interview she says surgeons in the UK and USA tell her that physically there is nothing wrong with her vocal chords, so the loss is a mystery, possibly triggered by some psychological trauma. So she now plays and teaches ukuele and has turned that into a whole new career. Still, she has a new album named '8' on which her 'singing' voice - from what I heard it's a masculine monotone with the inability to pitch correctly - is run through processors to create a voice very unlike what she had, but something engaging all the same.
Absolutely the very best vocalist England has ever offered. She is incomparable.
She has great vocals;no doubt but Joss Stone is better!
Interesting that I used the same adjective, without having read your comment!

I agree. This is one of my all time favorite performances. She retired because of a vocal chord issue. Terrible loss.

Sam Brown kills this, but you cannot not mention that sax solo. So damn good.
You said it. Tom Scott blew the roof off that hall with it and summoned some ancient jungle-demons in the process
His placement of the high notes is just stupendous
Sam Brown woke up Harrison from the grave. What a performance I remember seeing this 20 years ago blew me away
Wish he’d gotten to see it

This is where I first got introduced to Sam Brown years ago. So happy.
She absolutely stole the show. Hands down!
No doubt about it. End of story. Bottom line.
Sam Brown's performance with her vocal abilities, joy, passion, energy and stage presence was more than worthy the line-up of the "backing band"!
Great performing Albert Lee on solo guitar. Master.

Great concert, and she was the best thing in it.
Sometimes a new person covers a song and it changes how you hear every word. Like Johnny Cash with Hurt This is one of those times right here. Badass!
