Mark is a great storyteller, he has had numerous big hits, he has a huge song book to choose from, Beryl, Long Cool Girl, Border Riever. So many songs.

I agree with many of you... Mark is number 1. What makes him so different than many, many other guitarists, some of whom are ranked higher than him, is the fact that he is so musical. Although he is capable, he does shred just to shred, he takes us on a musical journey. You must admire his technical abilities each time, but more so you are taken on a wonderful musical journey that is the major impact of his solos.
He sure is top ten, for me just behind Clapton. But more than that a great songwriter/storyteller who can write poetic songs about any subject. That is very rare!
Mark may indeed own an Aston Martin DB7 but no need to show the DB11 model instead! And like many others have already commented - he never recorded an album called Sultans of Swing ...

I'd have thought MK would be able to knock spots off any guitar player past or present - a complex and unique style delivered with precision...in a cool manner seldom seen in front men.
The picture of the guy in the union jack jacket isn't Mark knopfler, doesn't even look like him and Mark as a much broader nose. But put in any pictures they'll do eh.
27 th on the list, who are these people who put great musicians in lists of who they say are such and such a number according to their opinion of their abilities. There are that many variables as to what makes some one think a certain guitarist should be in a lower or higher position in a list they are not even worth looking at as plenty would argue who is better than another. Mark Knoffler would most certainly be higher than 27th in lots of people's opinion.
Typical American presentation - very bitty, an irritatingly whiny voice-over, and almost nothing of Mark! Even the backing noise isn't Dire Straits, it is some drum and bleepy noise!
