    To make the lightsaber a little more authentic is..
    1) A Polycarbonate tube.. Easily found at a hardware store.
    2) A cap to go on the end of the tube (this can be accomplished with a little application of plastic glue)
    3) A strand of LED lights (double sided) to go inside the tube.
    4) A length of slightly transparent tubing to cover the LED's
    5) Some diiffusion paper to go around the (double-sided) LED strip.
    Correctly done, and you've got yourself a polycarbonate blade with which you can use a 9-volt battery to power the LED strip. Voila! You've got yourself a fully functioning lightsaber that will light up and glow.

      Emphasis on I didn't want to "just" glue it on. The slightest bump would have knocked it right off. The key here was that there is now a little piece glued into the plastic itself then bent over to clamp that sucker in place. It's still glued but with some strategic engineering! :)

    • @DustFilmsOriginals
      @DustFilmsOriginals  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah! I literally stood in the hardware store holding both of them trying to decide because the metal one was SO perfect! But in the end I didn't have a way to cut the rounded metal end (how did you do it?)

    • @joelwatts6890
      @joelwatts6890 Před 4 lety

      @@DustFilmsOriginals I used short nosed tin snips to cut away the material the best I could without deforming the shape and then ground away the rest on a bench grinder. For the box on the side I used a solid piece of steel (i think its called a key) and attached those little plastic bubble shaped cabinet door bumpers in a row. For the little toggle lever on the side of the box i used one side of the toggle on a hollow wall anchor toggle bolt. The metal band around the middle was off of a mission fitting (a kind pf pipe coupler). Like you, I used the pull chain switch thing. At the time you could buy the grips from a guy making them so that was easy. I sold the hilts for about $200 each back in '99.

      Hmm, I see two problems with that: The tape is only a few inches wide so you would have seems every few inches. Also steel wool would completely shred aluminum tape, which is insanely thin. But I always love thinking of new possibilities, so keep the suggestions coming! (In fact, they sold a chrome sink tailpiece which would have been TOTALLY perfect!! But I don't have a way to cut the metal curve.)
