- This week hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum ask themselves, is this show a safe space? What is our obligation as a show to create a safe space for ourselves and for the audience, and what does “safe space” mean, anyway?
This is a follow up from last week’s MiniPod that got a liiittle heated.

What I appreciate about this is the intimate layers of this reflection. Thank you for reminding us what adulting looks like. One of the reasons I love you all is because you all are passionate in being a voice for us. Take the time to always pullback, reflect, assess, and move forward.
Agreed. This was a very good and necessary conversation that a lot of ppl could benefit from
I totally agree. This segment is what Native Land Welcome Home is about, it's telling your truth no matter how ugly it is to our family.
Yessss! ❤
We are watching growth and truth through Angela, Tiffany, and Andrew as they fight the good fight but they are also very human in their friendship and their relationship. This is what Native Pod looks like in figuring out ourselves and what we want to see and be in this world through the lens of politics and world news from the Black perspective. We fall down, but we getup which is what God always wants for his children.
Three wild wobbly eyed insane lunatics
The essence of family is that we don’t give up on each other.
Amen pretty lady 🦍
Disagreements are a part of life. Who wants a robotic trio? I love the openness and honesty that you 3 display on a weekly basis.
Another great show! I haven’t missed one episode yet and not planning on it either. Love you guys! Keep up the good and necessary work! Please keep encouraging people to vote even if they don’t like either candidate. I know Biden is not perfect but he’s who we have and we ALL know Trump or RFK would be a disaster.
Y'all's realness, truth, honesty, with facts, has created a very safe comforting space, ThankYou 💕 💯
It's a human moment. And the fact that she can tell you her feelings were hurt says a lot about your relationship. People don't realize the vulnerability it takes. And the healing that will come out of it. ❤❤❤❤
As an empathetic and sensitive person,
I am glad you are addressing these very important aspects of creating community- not just this space but more generally. 🙏🏾
Thank you so much for keeping Ms. Moseby in he forefront.
I'm In Love With The Openness Between You All; The Self-Care Is Palpable. I Appreciate Each Of Your Viewpoints With The Underlined Passion. Stay 10 Toes Down For One Another!!! Sending Each Of You LOVE.
I really enjoy listening to the podcast and the different perspectives. I especially enjoy Andrew's commentary because he is sensible and he tries to be fair.
I love the forgiveness and the transparency in bringing your discussion for resolution back to the platform where the fallout began.
Super example of how to walk through understanding with candor, acknowleding hurt feelings; offering grace, apologies, respect and love above it all!
I also appreciate all the more that you truly come as your authentic selves - standing ten toes down as your individual selves and also as a collective - just as every great family does!!!!!💯💜😊
Much love and respect family!!! Abundant Blessings!!!🙏🏽
i feel like this MiniPod should be a regular whenever needed. This is the interworking of grace that we need to see more of from our leaders. You are showing us your humanity. Thank you!
Love angela . Shes naturally and deeply empathetic, but being empathetic also means being highly sensitive and emotionally aware. So it makes sense that this reaction would occur. Glad you guys were able to work through it
I'm so glad Andrew spoke about not fighting for space in the conversation. I love these 3 brilliant people and have followed them individually for years. But, one thing i find myself saying most episodes is "stop talking over Andrew! Let him speak". That resonates with me so much because I experience this on my job and in my friend circles. I'm intelligent and I have something of value to contribute. But often times, those who are more vocal or dare I say have stronger personalities tend to drive the conversation. And at times it just not worth the fight for me. It's exhausting. But we're all growing and learning.
Thank you for saying what I have wanted to say, but couldn't find the right words. The ladies show up as extroverts and Andrew shows up as introverts and introverts often get shut out. This is not a criticism but something they all should be aware of. Introverts often reach a moment when they have to rebel/get angry when they reach their limit of not being heard. Women in general often have an interrupted style of speaking with their sisters but Tiffany and Angela should do some work on their public presentation.
I LOVE your nuanced disagreements. Don't change. No need to explain any further.
This is an example of how people should have crucial conversations. #Adulting101.
This is powerful retrospective execution. I'm here for it
This almost brought me to tears. You didn’t have to explain or talk about any of that tension. You guys know what it is for yourselves. I just appreciate you guys for clearing it up anyway. Especially Angela and Tiffany. I have followed Angela long enough to know when her energy is off. I love them both. I love Andrew as well of course. I’m a Black woman. That’s why the tension between them hits different for me. For those of us that really look up to you guys in this community, I think we appreciate it. So much respect for you guys. You treat your listeners like family too. Not a lot of podcasts do that. You really pay attention to us. Love you guys. And thank you.
I am so glad that you all decided to address the elephant in the room. Those of us who are avid followers definitely could sense the tension not only in that particular episode but in episodes, prior to. However, I would venture to say, it is in no way a bad thing. In fact, it i what makes us continue to support and follow your content. Disagreements and maybe even a little conflict can be deemed necessary and somewhat healthy, especially in spaces where your primary responsibility is to bring the voices of the diverse group of listeners to the table. Now, I agree with you Andrew. I could sense at some point you beganholding back your position on many topics. I'm guessing it is because you're seen as the more politically correct member of the trio. I am so glad you addressed this because I share your same thoughtson how to handle certain situations. I agree with you. In order to operate in certain spaces, you have to be cognizant and conscious and aware of what you say and how you say it, especially if your primary objective is have a seat at the table so you can you bring the voices of others in. I also agree that the 3 of you are highly intelligent and that you bring 3 different perspectives. Please don't rob us and remove those perspectives. No, we are not looking for a love and hip-hop type interaction, but we are looking for human beings with 3 different experiences 3 different approaches to bring to the table. I am very appreciative for the authentic conversations that take place on your podcast. It is reality TV meets current events. And I can honestly say that it is quite enlightening, and I look forward to your content each and every week, so please again continue to be yourselves. Thank you and continue to do good work.
I think it is a safe place, I never thought it wasn’t. I think you all are beautiful people. We all are a work in progress
This is a great example of being able to be honest, transparent, and extending grace to each other. Apology is necessary for healing and restoration. I agree with Andrew, Grace is important. Keep loving and telling the truth!
Always be loving and kind even in disagreement .
Heated discussions are sometimes important. At the end of the day, you take the gems with you and reflect. I love the podcast, ladies and gent.... rock on. ❤❤❤
Y'all better argue with us, for us, about us, ANDin front of us. You 3 are family now. DON'T DIVORCE US!!
Thank you for doing this mini because I truly LOVE you guys. Your energy, your knowledge and your love for our community. Keep on keeping it real.
I really appreciate this conversation. Sending you all love.
I love y'all so much..the love between NLP team is heartwarming..Y'all were being family..
Welcome Home
This is a learning process for us all.
I welcome the honesty amongst you together.
It’s a new podcast and we look forward to many more🙌🏽
That’s beautiful! Just means you are passionate in your beliefs and the bond you all share is inseparable…..roll tape💞!!!
I ❤ love ❤this podcast
Appreciate the transparency
Watching from London this is one of my favourite podcasts I learn so much about US issues and politics from you guys x
The ladies and gentlemen are amazing in your views and thoughts. Much love ❤️
Love y’all! So looking forward to this space. One thing me and my wife are doing is to speak even toned. Also I took this from my work environment before I retired. Always seek ways to be gentle with truths or opinions. Because a lot of times our inside is not as strong as our shell or the perception of our shells.
Lol!!!! @ Andrew… “and I don’t care for it “ I so love him for that! I’ll need to borrow that “kind read.”
This was a great reflection, but hard to follow without more context. So appreciate your commitment to honesty and integrity in your show.
We understand guys! It is ok to have different opinions and disagree on issues! It is awesome and it is caused by “being human”! We know you all are for real with other and with us your listeners! Yall are awesome! Love yall♥️♥️♥️
I gotta say that was a very heated conversation but I understand what took place and I'm glad you all shared this very real moment. Thank you!
I’m glad you all are alright. I was concerned and feeling heartbroken that there was a real. Problem between the three of you.
There is real love between yall . I love it
I really love how you are able to talk to each other here after some very strong feelings. Such an intelligent conversation with complexity. Thank you.
Luuuuuuuvs these 3!!!
A microcosm of our community, I'm glad you communicated and resolved your issues. ❤
I love how you guys relate and respect each other. I love your dedication to keeping it real-world us. Stay encouraged. Continue to love.❤
Three very intelligent individuals 💜💜💜💜
Angela thanks for disclosing what is going on with you and all the energy you are devoting towards ”Marilyn Mobsy” 😊Sending prayers of strength and protection from Psalms 91. God Bless 🙏🏾. Glad that Andrew did not video the rawness of the behind the scene interaction Everything need not be put on front street!! Keep this podcast safe for each of you and all your viewers.❤
So true some things need to be done /talked about at the kitchen table cause it's not for everyone.😲
All in the family and it’s all good.❤
Kings and Queens rule ✊🏾
Thank y'all so much for your transparency!! Conflict resolution, empathy, communication, etc. are so underrated and needed in this day and time on so many levels. The beautiful thing is when the basis of a relationship is love and respect, you can have disagreements, hard discussions and know that the intentions are pure and at the end of the day, we may disagree, but we still love and value each other.
Normalcy & humanity was on display. Noone is going to agree 100%. Keep up the good work.
Sometimes, difficult conversations are needed .
You solve problems at the root.
I'm so thankful for this dialogue cuz there have been times where I kind of felt like Andrew gets buried by too strong women. I myself am guilty of that a lot and I was happy to find some insight and help in how to incorporate this into my own life.
Thank you all once again #magic
Dope , yes it is a safe space!
One of the most authentic conversations since your debut. It's good to see how you handled this conflict resolution. Keep rising to the top.
Our ancestors spoke up, spoke out in spaces that were unsafe. If the goal is truth, tell it, no matter what.
I want to comment on two things, first, thank you to the three of you for who you are. You are teaching us how to hash out differences in communication and I just love this so much. And secondly, Thank you Angela for your leadership in helping Marilyn Mosby in her situation. People, don't tell me we cannot get things done if we the people come together. Especially the Black community because it is possible and that collaboration of people and organizations got it done and saved not just Ms. Mosby, but her Beautiful Babies. Damn it can be done!
Love the transparency and it’s obvious you all love one another ❤For me it’s not so much what you say but how you say it; be gentle with your words 😉
❤️❤️❤️
You all are awesome!!!!!
I love Angela Rye is such a sensitive, sentimental soul. I love her!
I love y'all!
Well round purpose filled podcast, definitely here for it!!💯
Maybe this was something that you guys discuss among yourselves and work it out??? Glad that you came together in the end.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾‼️
You guys really did a apology segment😮 I don’t think this was necessary however it’s your podcast. Listen, you can’t please everybody. I, personally, enjoy a good, healthy, spicy/heated debate. It shows me that you three aren’t being fake. That your opinions , opposing or otherwise, are real. Even if those opinions differ from the viewers. I would prefer you all show up as your authentic selves. I truly enjoyed the previous segment because it got heated but, appeared to me, heathy. Keep the energy up because I don’t want to get lost in this podcast becoming boring and unauthentic.
Keep the love y'all
We all we got 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Love y’all 💯💪🫶🏾
This is real talk y'all
I love this, LOVE it. A dear friend who navigates tough spaces w folx as his job used to say we should use "Ouch!" when someone's making a point and then you decide if it needs to be addressed in the moment or if it's something to table for later in private.
There are "safe spaces" and "places to hide". Both do the same thing, just the uses are different. To me, "safe spaces" are places where people calm themselves to learn something, grow, connect and then find a direction. "Places to hide" provide a place to stay in a heightened (most times panicked) state, do something, then run in a direction. They both provide a chance to breathe.
I appreciate hearing this and how vulnerable everyone was in creating a safe space. But I also feel like im listening in on a HR team meeting lol.
No idea something happened and I watched the whole episode
Shouldn't even be a question after what we as desperate black politics followers see so clearly we need to defeat far right extremist. And keep the only 3 black people I will ever listen to concerning black folks are Native Land Podcast.
It’s okay to agree to disagree. The problem comes when you’re not honest with each other.
A safe space in my opinion means to allow room for ignorance with grace to educate without judgment
Is there Merchant for Sale on native land
Smile Queen Angela
A safe space is where weak people and liars stay. Reality, is all around us. You don't have to be rotten and put anyone down. Tell the factual truth and then let others go from there.
Yall wrong for that picture yall used for Tiffany on the CZcams picture.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to inform people exactly what you all are addressing? What about replaying the segment in question or explain what happened, especially; if it wasn't a part of the broadcast? Is to do this sensible/reasonable, aside from whether it itself, is responsible? If you are going to be so open with yourselves, don't half step it, or at least think more about what is necessary, to share with the public.
OLD BLACK MEDIA is dead R.I.P to y'all 🙏🏾
Please keep personal feelings behind the scenes. I want to hear your interesting commentary.
I don't get why yall apologizing?!?!
Did I miss something? I’ve seen y’all disagree, but nothing to warrant this minipod of clearing the air.
Hello native land pod.
I was not going to comment again on Native land Pod let alone the WNBA. However since i was kind of mentioned in your last podcast. Here we go! Let me first accept correction & apologize for saying Ms. Plumb was whinning, it was a terrible choice of words & should not have been said.
I do however want to challenge the statement from Tiffany & Angela on the WNBA’s financials.
I stated that it’s been in existence for 25 years without turning a profit.
I would ask that you do a little more research on the matter. When Tiffany read that the WNBA has 200 million in revenue that is only partly true. The whole story is it’s what comes in & what goes out that matters. Yes the WNBA has approximately 200 million in revenue however they don’t publish their total losses. How do I know they have losses? Anytime you have to have the NBA give a yearly amount known as an award of $15 million each and every year that would tell me that there’s some major losses each year. So it was a little hard to hear from Tiffany & Angela whom I admire say that I had my facts incorrect.
If after more research you can show that I’m incorrect I’ll certainly apologize. But I believe I have my facts straight.
Just for a little perspective I’m a 63 year old Africa American & have had WNBA Sparks season tickets for the first 3 years of the league! I’ve been a Basketball fan since 1972 so this comes from a person that loves basketball.
I do acknowledge that my video was poorly articulated but I’m not the most comfortable with a camera in my face. I write this instead of a video because I want the three of you to know I’m a fan of the league & want them to succeed. I came across as a get off my lawn old man & that’s not me. I don’t care how the masses view me but I do respect the three of you & want you to know my heart.
To Andrew my great niece graduated from Clark university, the year you gave the commencement speech thank you!
Trump has broken y'all 🤣🤣
I didn't know that there was really black people who talked like this in real life, safe spaces and all that bs 😅😅😅
What's going on with your boy Charlamane? Dude is trippin'..
For real. I watched the pod with Candice Owens and I was like what’s wrong with him. Then he did that whacked out video on DEI. He’s truly in a sunken place.
Im looking forward to those tough topics I think u guys are avoiding those topics.......in my opinion
So Angela is overly sensitive and causing tension with her cohosts? She does appear guarded and defensive all the time but they needed to keep this to themselves.
She was crying because she was hurt? I thought she was crying about Trump. Y’all don’t have to agree. That annoys me about the liberals. They are so much worse at thinking other folks have POVs with validity too, just because y’all come to different conclusions.
You should be crying about Trump unless you are very wealthy (rich) or want an authoritarian despote as a democratic leader in this country.
@@carolineyelding7989 no I wasn’t mad at that for her. I’m making the opposite point because that made more sense to me than crying because her colleague had a difference of opinion…
Also no, I’m not crying for the President. Both parties are financed by the same people. They’re not that different. Also I lived through Trump already and if anything Presidents get less done in their second term because they are basically lame ducks for two years. Obama couldn’t even get his Supreme Court pick votes on.
@@DecaturQue Do you know WHY he couldn't?
This seems so scripted, and I want to support but it's exhausting
What makes it seem scripted?
It doesn't sound scripted to me. It sounds like a natural conversation among friends.
@SoniT real friends have real conversations, and they check each other if need be furthermore if you talk too much you only listen to respond.
So... we just went through a 23-minute therapy session??? I turn to you guys for your unique perspective into politics. You are all brilliant. But, for the last few episodes. I've gotten to know your "feelings." Where is y'alls reaction to Rep. Crockett?? Where is the passion? To be frank...y'all shit is boring, and I'm disappointed. There is no reason you shouldn't be #1. Just stop trying to find equal footing with maga
This is a good productive podcast. It’s not easy to talk about feelings and emotions especially publicly. Criticism fair or unfair isn’t always energy that’s easily manifested into something productive. Family means a lot of things beautifully complicated is one of them. Keep doing the great work. Healing and thriving along the way healing. ❤️🩹 💗
We're all adults. More than that, we've all been raised to be assertive, to know our own minds-rightly or wrongly. Growing up I took one or two whoppings that I believed were unwarranted. I took 'em. And the lessen. As you do. As I am want to do.
