This is really a different kind of SCP. Instead of learning about all the anomalous powers Alexei has, we get a character study examining PTSD and a path to healing. It really is something special.
Po0
A good example that not all S.C.P.s need to be killing machines in fact the most creative S.C.P.s are the peaceful ones.
There's an essay somewhere on the SCP site about how SCP-2273 is almost the ideal entry. A lesser writer would have let Alexi keep his weapons and support pack and gone on and on about his combat abilities or taken the easy route and had Alexi join an MTF or the Foundation staff.
Instead, Alexi is (very believably) a traumatized veteran and the Foundation file goes on for _decades_ like a real government record would. The signature holes and redactions aren't so much there to create hooks for meta-narrative so much as they are simple lapses in surveillance of a "low-priority" POI.
This file encompasses more than half a century of time and is (I believe) the first SCP entry to emphasize someone's status as a *former* SCP object and not simply a *safe* SCP object.
This story is a real work of art.
the SCP foundation would have easily made him a subject to testing but Dr. Friedrich immediately saw a victim and a person and made sure that he stayed a person. his immediate actions to give him a class B sapient title allowed him to be treated like a human. along with the request to downgrade to class C meant he was also given both the rights and the privilege's of any other person. Friedrich didn't give the foundation a chance to treat him as a subject.
We learn some of the armors ability.
It's basically a fully automatic HUD plus battle armor and even more.
The tale of healing is a very nice bonus
One of the few fully sane, humanoid, and mostly cooperative scp’s, finally the ethics committee gets some use
I don’t see why he’s Euclid he should be safe
@@Dead_head4565 he is fully capable of causing some serious damage and is relatively unstable, so some security measures are required to ensure he doesn’t go over the edge
@@Dead_head4565 the Keter, Euclid, and Safe classifications aren’t for how dangerous the scp itself is it’s how hard it is to contain. You can have an scp that’s just a piece of paper that kills you if you touch it but as long as it doesn’t try to escape on it’s own and can just be locked in a box to stop it from killing people than it’s safe
@@Dead_head4565 please refer to the closed box classification system:)
@@Dead_head4565 basicly, a human with a gun is Euclid. becasue they are capable of posing a threat and are sapient and capable of making decisons. Safe entities are only Safe becasue they are able to be completely understood due to operating based on rules. anything that operates like a person or intelligence, i.e responding to changes in their environment ect. is euclid. Even if you took the gun away from the human, and put them in a cell, and that human said it would co-operate, its impossible to know if they are playing the long game or might get pissed off one day and try to break containment.
this is the first story that made me go "wow this sucks" not because it is written poorly or because it's overly convoluted, but because it's such a truly heartbreaking story, alexei lost everything in his old life to gain a new one full of unknown riches and pleasures unimaginable to him to the point of confusing and overwhelming him to then slowly lose them with old age but was able to find peace with that through religion. i would love to see this in a movie theater or as a mini-series on tv
I think I would rather see it as a full-length novel- or perhaps a graphic novel.
Hollywood- in it's current iteration- may have the Technical wizardry necessary to create the film, but I fear the actual _story_ would be sacrificed in the name of "Social Justice" and "Inclusivity".
I can see an independent film or even a animated short tackling this story.
It would make a great episode of "love, death and robots" or another one of those "experimental" netflix shows.
I want SCP-4999 meaning alexi it would be so wholesome of a Ministory.
I dunno, the cyborg child SCP was pretty sad.
The fact that he had the combination of PTSD and Survivor's Guilt initially referred to as "Shell Shock" shows that he was the least anomalous thing ever put into containment. He was just some guy who had armour grown around him that his native universe considered normal, that was somehow ripped from his version of earth and deposited on a world not too far from ours that the SCP foundation works in.
This is an example of the better side of SCP writing. Where you expect yet another murder monster built to destroy and you get a broken man in a crappy situation who finally knows peace far too late to enjoy it. It demonstrates that even the most vicious of soldiers are still human.
Very well said. 👏
Agreed. SCP is at it's best when it's being minimally convoluted.
I super appreciate that they didn’t go the route of him suddenly attacking the foundation or losing his mind. He was just a broken man who lived the best life he could given his circumstances. Truly a beautiful story.
When Alexi nearly cried describing Russian and Americans serving together (obviously not our current dimension, but his) and his last letter before his friend passed were some of the saddest, most gut wrenching things I've ever heard. So both to the voice actors and the rest of the team, BRAVO.
Pretty sure it’s just the volgun and not a team, he does all the voice acting and stuff as well as the models
@@luckyducky5994 well then all the more impressive! I can't remember the last time an SCP reading got me emotional like that!
I almost cried when he was talking
my man Volgun got talent
I think hes one of the people who would oppose the war in Ukraine
I love how insanely detailed and fitting your models are for the SCPS it's always an instant click from the thumbnail alone and seeing them close up makes it even better!
@Grand Professor Felagund of Nargothrond same
I would love to have 3d print files of them
Dudes models are seriously impressive.
Honestly I was turned off by the image of "just another FPS future marine box", but then I decided to give it a listen anyway. They managed to turn a stereotypical shootey guy into a well rounded human with a rich full life that just so happened to be stuck in a murder suit. I loved the story.
@Grand Professor Felagund of Nargothrond same
When Alexi started describing the engineers I was like “holy shit it’s SCP-1000…”
Those guys are gonna become a problem
I'm happy I wasn't the only one to notice that.
Is it scp 1000?
But that’s bigfoot
I was thinking about Unlondon when I heard about an underground city Xd
SCP-1000 would explain the 'coats like beasts' thing.
Halfway through when its revealed that the psychologist became an SCP himself, I was quite startled.
I haven't been able to find which scp he is do you have any idea lmao
I too would like to know what happened to Dr Friedrich.
@@optimisticnihilist3417 my guess is that they found a way to remove the armor and it was given to the doctor.
@@NicoNicoNessieSub But why tho?
@@concept5631 because there's a mention in the article in dialogue from alexei that the armor is slowly deteriorating and doesn't work as well as it used to. So likely they didn't want him to stay in a suit that wasn't functional likely because he could die in it, (since it gets him oxygen and nutrients etc) so they found a way to get him out of it
The fact that Dr. Friederich didn't receive his last letter just broke me, that's such a nail on the coffin for me, also it would be nice to see more tales exploring the relations between SCP 2273, 507, 191 and 163
The emotion at 42:00 to 43:00 was intense and well acted out, could feel the PTSD leaking out. Great job

Excellent work on the armor aside, I’ve always loved this SCP. It’s less humanity trying to understand a being that’s truly unknown and more two men from two different worlds finding connections that break down their language/cultural barriers
I forgot about this scp. It was incredibly beautiful. The last statement of Alexi reminds me a lot of the ending of Les Miserables and the final verses of Jean Valjean.
Darn Volgun, you did justice to this reading. I am weeping @42:00 mark. This has always been a favorite scp of mine, but the emotions you portrayed, moved me for the first time unlike any other time I read this. THANK YOU for yhis experience. You are a master of story telling!
Very well said, and totally agreed.
I hope Alexi found the peace in the monastery he needed. Its never easy to go to sleep knowing the screams will come soon.
This is so well done, I was damn near crying throughout the whole thing. Wonderful SCP, and brilliant reading as always
omg ur here i love u
Never expected you to show up here :D
I felt that. The idea that this man lost everything, fought his hardest and lost. Being dropped into a world where his oldest, bloodiest enemy is now one of his greatest possible allies. Going from a war where Russia and America are the bitterest rivals aiming for each other's throats, to a world where soldiers from both sides rush to stop eachother from bleeding out while working together to bring peace to destabilized regions. His whole reality originally being of blood and hate and fire and rot, reversed and replaced with peace and care and cooperation and beautiful growth. And yet, even with all this greatness surrounding him, he feels... Lost; out of place.
I can only hope in a different reality, he found a truer peace.
Rs
Holy crap it's the hit CZcamsr Voice Quills
This one was beautiful. Such a human story.
Rest in peace, comrade Alexei. I hope you find the peace and salvation you have searched for, and that you see Thomas, Penny, Victoria, and the rest of your friends from site-17, again.
How dare you make me cry at work.
seriously, goosebumps abound on this one. one of my favorite characters
As someone who processes and deals with PTSD, this hits home. The tension in the voice and words. The ache that you shouldnt have survived while others didnt. This tale has always been a favorite of mine but you have truly elevated this a deeper expression. I truly thank you for covering this.
The radio noise rising while is voice slightly cracks describing his PTSD gave me chills, the amount of care and attention to details that went into this video are staggering
"A machine who's gears grind against each other is a machine that cannot work. Seek truth, but also compassion"
Those are words of a man who finally found peace and purpose. In a way, father Anvil represents all of us
The explanation of the terms that show up in the articles showing up on the "screen" are very helpful and feels very non-intrusive to the flow of the video! Great job!
as a russian i wanna say, your russian accent is exactly on point. literally all of us etheir speak exactly like that or just don't speak english, and that's not sarcasm
I’ve always thought his american accent was really accurate, it’s nice to know he’s good at other accents as well.
@@ar6543 Irishmen speak an eldritch tongue, mere mortal languages and accents are nothing to them
The last thing i expected to happen to day was to wake up early and cry, this is one of the most emotionally brutal SCP files to exist, Alexi maybe a completely fictitious character but his story is so completely, totally, tragically, human that if it isn't tugging at your heart strings then youre a monster.
Alexeis story had me in tears... from the beginning with his suspicion to the moment he realized that he was in a new place... his growing friendship with the doctor... the mentioning of his ptsd and suffering... his release and friendships with the other people he met while in containment... learning of their deaths and how they effected him... my heart hurt listening
I almost skipped this upload from you altogether, as I had already listened to it be covered several times. But all the extra writing you shared so excellently in the last half or so was brand new to me, and I'm so glad I listened to it. All but made me cry - thank you for continuing to be the very best creator in this niche space, you bring something to it in several ways that is entirely unparalleled.
You're the only creator I've turned the bell on for now, I never want to let myself miss another upload for so long
the white noise implying he's crying is so fucking heart breaking
Disclosure humor. White noise is a song by Disclosure btw.
Alexei's story is so well done. I really find myself liking and sympathizing with him, a fictional Russian super soldier from another universe.
I'm glad 2273 was released. I'm also glad it was given a Dr that truly tried to understand its disposition, and actually improve it. As opposed to keeping it confined to a cell with no doors/windows. Maybe not a happy ending, but still better than most.
jesus christ your voice actng is on such another level. The diversity and passion to which you bring various characters to life is something to behold. Every time i listen to one of these videos i completely forget im listening to one man. I compelely forget its a youtube video of someone just essentially reading a story. I get chills and have even welled up in tears at the performances you do in these readings. i just cannot fathom how such a talent like yourself wound up reading scps instead of working for giant corperate studios as a famous insanely sought-after voice actor, but godamn do i feel grateful and fortunate i get to listen to you do it. Thank you for continuing to give us emtionally charged 5 star professional readings better than anything on audible.
I am so excited you retouched 2273 so quickly, this was the first video that came to mind when you started redoing the classics and I couldnt be happier!
*He is redoing them!* okay thanks for the confirmation, I thought I was losing my mind and experiencing some kind of mandella effect cause I swore I heard him do a few of these year's ago.
I love Alexi story and his variants depending on the scenario. Probably one of the few that made me sad but happy at the same time.
I love this particular SCP entry it's not cosmic horror or man made monsters, it's uplifting and gives a degree of humanity to the SCP and the foundation.
Always found this anomaly intriguing. You can feel sympathy for Alexei by hearing him talk about his post-traumatic stress & difficulty reintegrating into society.
Amazing artwork & great voice acting, as always.
Alexei is one of my top favorite SCP's ever
This is why I listen to both The Exploring Series and TheVolgun. Each of you brought out amazing emotions involved with this in your own unique style. Thank you for making me cry by the way :’)
The writer of this piece is absolutely awesome.
The entry was so touching!
Oh shit, his armor is the hardness a soldier develops from deployment that shields him from danger, yet closes him off from the regular world. It punishes him with flashes of war.
This is an allegory for veterans trying to cope with the outside world
Unless I’m mistaken, are Victoria, Penny, and the Space Crab the Cyborg Girl, Dimension Hopper, and the Alien Castaway, respectively?
If so, it’d be fitting that he’d find solidarity with them:
-Alexei was painfully modified against his will, and learned to accept his modifications as part of who he is;
-Alexei was suddenly & quickly brought into an unfamiliar world (twice!), and has been forced to adapt to his new circumstances with what little resources/experience he’s able to carry with him;
-Alexei is a complete outsider in this “alien” world, and has to live with the fact that he may never be able to return to his original home & the loved ones he left behind.
🥺
i still want to know what scp Dr. feriedich is as its clear in the letters that at some point he became one
I think the last one definitely is right, but wasn't the dimension hopper a male? Or am I remembering a different one...
@@MyAngela995 the letters imply he's talking to 3-4 different people on of witch is the dr.
@@MyAngela995 In the letters, Penny is definitely referred to as a male. (tho it's rarely ever considered a male name, so i can see the confusion.)
The video tells you who they are.
Victoria = 191-n (Cyborg Child), Penny = 507 (Grabnok the Destroyer) and Space Crab = 163, (An old castaway).
First time I've cried over an SCP, Alexei Belitrov is one of my favorite SCP's because he's so incredibly human and you can understand, if not fully, why he feels the way he does, its hard to listen to his story and not get the feels

I admire this man's ability to mimic any accent.
What a fantastic job Volgun; the voice acting was insane in this reading (Props to you for the german accent as well!)
This made me feel warm.
From a traumatic childhood to a blood soaked war over ideologies.
Then to an end of his war to the murder of his friends.
A new world to him in the form of a cell to learning of his Goddess' love and light.
Fiction though it may be, it is still a well written story of a mans breaking mind to his recovery in his own path and time.

That white noise... He was crying...
The new Killer Instinct SCP looks hella fine
All these comments saying how touching a story this is, meanwhile im just lookin at his googas 🤦
It’s really admirable that the scp doctors respect the hypocratic oath definitely another one of those “these guys are pretty alright” things
A lot of scp stories make me interested, intrigued, scared, or even think, but none of them made me feel quite as strongly as this one. RIP Alexi.
I'm pretty sure that SCP-2273, or better, Alexei is more human than most people living both in his Earth and ours. The description of hopefulness and joy in getting to know the people that helped him during his hard times, his friends, and the sadness in knowing they're not there anymore is just amazingly written topped with a wonderful voice acting. Really well done!!!
Such a GOOD SCP. Really exploring the subjects of trauma and grief, isolation and exile, redemption and guilt. Alexei is corageous in a way I think we all can try to emulate--to face the horror that is living.
Alexei's story is simultaneously tragic and heartwarming.
For some reason, I feel like Broken Masquerade videos (such as this one & the earlier SS Sommerfeld) should have a minor format change in order to indicate that this isn’t the “usual Foundation” that we’re accustomed to.
-Maybe the coloring is slightly different, or less shadowed, to indicate that the Foundation is now “in the light” compared to its previous operations.
-Maybe Dr Millar sounds slightly older in order to indicate that this Foundation is “past its prime” or “beyond the glory days”.
-Maybe the intro includes “Brought to you by the {UN/MCF} Office of Anomalous Relations” to indicate that the intended audience is not just Foundation insiders, but now includes a broader part of the public (even if this broader audience still requires higher security clearance than the average Joe off the street).
Idk, probably too much effort to be worthwhile.
I didn’t even know this was a broken masquerade (nor even what that was until just now) until reading your comment. I was so confused when he mentioned the future and the scps being released, I thought I had missed a massive chunk of development during my couple month break from the scp community
I expected a gore filled horror show and instead, got a very humbling story. Damn.
This is probably up there among my favorites. With SCP files, you never know what you are going to get, and ones like 2273 stick with you.
