A lot of people pick Hayden then Lanter because everyone grew up with Lanter as Anakin. With me though for second place is Mat Lucas because I grew up with him and he was the original voice of Anakin in the 2003 Clone Wars and original Star Wars video games.

It's the tone and certain paralinguistic cues. Vader often spoke in very hyperbolic sentences and held quite a serious presence, listen closely to Anakin in episode 3 and you'll notice it. There's a direct reference to one of Vader's lines too: when Anakin says "don't make me kill you." it's similar to the way Vader said "don't make me destroy you." to Luke. Plus the way he says "power", emphasising the last half of the word to exaggerate the presence of the word. There are more examples, just gotta wade through the shit to find them.
I can't really hear it in the performance, but Hayden doesn't have anything to do with Anakin's lines being references to Vader's.

@@Ampwich I mean the thing is TCW Anakin was changed as well as a few other characters such as Obi Wan to more accurately represent the 'brothership' they are meant to have that the prequels had a lack of and fill in the things that happened between attack of the clones to the start of revenge of the sith.

Stefan Rodriguez I do wish Disney would go back and fix the prequels by doing a voice over dub with Matt Lanter's voice. Same dialogue, different voice. I have nothing against Hayden's, it's just that Matt's Anakin voice sounds so much more mature and dark due to its much deeper tone. Also, due to the larger prominence of Matt's voice in canon, it'd make much more sense in a consonant manner.

The closest they got was having an idea for evil/corrupt force ghost of Anakin talking to Kylo Ren (shown in The Force Awakens artbook). Hayden Christensen was a fantastic Anakin. He has acting talent. George Lucas simply cannot write solid dialogue.

Matt Lanter had a deeper voice than Hayden Christensen did but he was still able to portray and deliver as Anakin very well.
I prefer the more deeper voice for Anakin.. it just fits so well with him than that whining childish voice.

Matt's Character Voice is closer to Hayden's Natural Voice
Hayden’s voice did actually get deeper since the prequels. Now he sounds like a good mix between his prequels voice, Lanter’s, and James Earl Jones’s voice.

Hayden tried. When you have a higher pitched voice and your character is supposed to complain, the script turns against you. Hayden just sounds too young to be Anakin.

+Faizal Ali Wouldn't even need his balls to drop for him to be Vader, just stick him in the suit to make him around the same height as Anakin was and slap James Earl Jones' or Matt Sloan's voice in over it. Sure if it takes place after ROTJ then you'd kinda need to bring Hayden back to talk because of the whole Lucas edit thing, but he's an Anakin force ghost, not a Vader force ghost, so it's fine.
It's cheaper to find some nobody to wear the suit than to pay Hayden to wear it. He is too short to play Vader as well, according to his interview in behind the scenes footage for the movie.

James Earl Jones and Matt Sloan do amazing Vader voices but, let's be frank, unfortunately Jones is getting on a bit now, and considering Carrie Fisher, we need to be prepared to look for another Vader voice, which if Hayden can do then I'm all for it, but Matt Sloan tho.

Hayden Christnstan is the best, I know he gets grief, but unlike the rest of the voice actors, you can hear both the pain and arrogance in his voice acting

Totally agree, but one thing that comes to my mind when I think of the war hero and great soldier that Anakin was said I be, I hear the actor who played him in the newer clone wars series. But when I think of evil and hateful Anakin, I hear Hayden's voice and I see his face.
Hayden got Anakin close to perfect, but he unfortunately had some terrible lines, which weren't his fault. He actually speaks like Darth Vader in certain ways, but Matt Lanter has more fitting voice

100% Haden bc he is the look for anakin and the way he matches Vader’s voice but in a different tone makes it that much more believable
Matt Lanter delivered the line. Hayden Christensen delivered the expression and aesthetics. If Hayden got better vocal directions and found a way to deliver his lines like Matt did, I think Hayden would've been the be-all-end-all Anakin Skywalker. I honestly don't dislike him. I enjoyed his performance in Revenge of the Sith. But Matt Lanter gave Anakin's character much more maturity and a stronger presence that lived up to his legacy as the Jedi hero Luke was told about from Obi-Wan.
+Geass Prince Hayden's performance could also be attributed to not as good writing. The script for TCW was WAY better than for the movies.
+LegitPixelz I'm one of the few people that adored all the prequel movies. I think the writing was fine, I wasn't as sensitive to Jar jar as most people prove to be, and I actually enjoyed the usage of CGI. Disagree with me all you want but that is my opinion on the matter.
***** There was nothing wrong with Jar jar. He was a comic relief character, nothing more. Also the CGI was fine. It provided world expansion and interesting aliens that would be too much of a hassle to create physically. Watto for example was one of my favorite characters in episode one simply because he had an entertaining dynamic with Qui Gon, and his animation made him look fairly real. I also enjoyed Qui Gon's midichlorians speech in episode one, I thought it gave a more interesting scientific explanation to the force and honestly don't understand why the "fans" were so heated about it.

Meh, he was the standard clumsy jester character that you see in most stories. It was he who inadvertently started a fight with Sebulba, which led to Anakin intervening and meeting Qui Gon and crew. He also helped Qui Gon and Obi Wan to safety by leading them to the Gungan city, not to mention greatly damaging the droid army, and filling in for Padme when she was in hiding. To say he was "useless" simply because you and a large subset of fans found him irritating is bias and stupid.

Hayden was fantastic as Anakin. Its the dialogue that screwed him over. I mean, watch the scene where he marches to the Jedi Temple, the one where he’s about to kill younglings, and the one where he slaughters the Separatist. No words, but pure badassery.

There's people out in the world that get off from acting like they could've done everything better, and I agree that people tend to criticize things rather than just enjoy it. I just don't think the guy meant any of that with his comment. He didn't say the script was horrible, only that the script was the biggest overall issue of the movie. Even if every aspect of a movie or play was executed well, there will always be aspects that were executed better than others.

Why deeper ? Anakin didn’t really mature all that much he became Vader in his early 20’s and his helmet is the reason Vader has that deep epic voice.

The accent is matter of direction. The choice was made either by George Lucas or Dave Filoni, but I think it was more of George's choice.
Hayden will always be Anakin for me. Physically, he's perfect for the role. He sure knows how to glare. And his voice is fine, he actually matches the voice for Darth Vader. I grew up with the second generation of Star Wars movies, Episodes 1-3 so I have always pictured Anakin as Hayden Christensen. However, Matt Lanter sounds pretty fucking sexy as Anakin haha

Hayden is the best for sure. He is the closest to Vader s later speaking tempo. Matt Lanter is a close second because his voice is low, and this gives the Dark dangerous edge.

Lucian Ganea The voice, ehh. Darth Vader had a voice modifier (I think) to make him more intimidating. But the character not at all. Who is more likely to turn to the dark side? An edgy, insecure teen or a caring battle hero admired by many? I think Anakin was made to be that way because it is more believable that he would turn. Yes, TCW Anakin faced problems, too but Hayden's portrayal of Anakin was truly the troubled Anakin. He lost what made him, him (Padmé, his limbs, The Jedi Order, the ability to function without cybernetics) and became the hardened villain we know and love today. Also this is just my opinion here, but Hayden actually sounds like a 23 year old.
