    Painting a media wall. This media wall installation has tricky spaces to mask, same principle to mask for kitchen cabinet spraying. If you want to know how to spray kitchen cabinets.. follow this technique..
    Day one. Mist coat fresh plaster and spray main colour. Spraying walls and media wall cabinet boxes
    Day Two. Mask main walls to paint accent colour / feature wall
    Day Three. Mask walls to spray ceiling
    (Oak skirting and architrave was sprayed with clear lacquer separately and fitted after new flooring was installed).

    Hey Pete. You are an artist and a craftsman that appears to take pride in everything you do! I really appreciate the time you have invested in making your videos. Thank you so much. I have been in the residential/remodeling industry for 40 years here in the US and have always used a brush and roller for painting. Due to watching your videos I just recently purchased a graco 390pc cordless with the fine finish hopper kit, pressure roller and jet roller. I am 60 years old and have never sprayed anything. However after watching the majority of your videos I want to start spraying. Since you’re videos are so informational I really only have one question if you don’t mind? I noticed you will mask and sometimes spray two coats on walls/trim/ceiling and demask after the second coat. So assuming you allow the first coat to dry for an hour or two and then spray the second coat, do you have any problems with bridging/pulling off paint when demasking?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před rokem +1

      Hi Mark, thank you so much for your kind words, really means so much 🙏 ..Can I say I’m inspired by ‘time served’ craftsmen like yourself that’s amassed so much experience.. 40 years! Well done, that’s inspirational 👏👏👏 ..I congratulate you also for taking the first steps into spraying, you’ve invested in some wonderful kit there.. the 390 Cordless will serve you very well, I truly believe the Graco innovative cordless technology is the future.. just like cordless drills and other battery tools have taken over their corded originals 👍
      Good question my friend.. bridging is very rarely a problem.. masking the sprayed trim / woodwork the next day to spray the walls.. with good woodwork prep, I’ve certainly never had a problem.. I’ll mask the cured trim paint with a ‘gold’ washi tape the next day, spray the walls (with emulsion) up onto the ceiling, then typically pull the masking from the trim whilst the emulsion is still wet and all performs very well.. next day I’ll mask the walls with 99” plastic film and spray the ceiling in last.. I highly recommend pulling the film down after the ceiling 2nd / final coat.. again I don’t usually have a bridging problem but if it is to occur (I recall once in a small isolated area), it would perhaps occur if the plastic film is left.. on the one occasion I recall, it was when I decided to flush out the sprayer first and let the ceiling dry down a bit, I had a small bit of bridging.. then any tape pulls that pull the original paint, again it’s quite rare when using purple sensitive washi tape, but I have had the odd occasion when the previous decoration / remodel had been poorly prepped and there was historic evidence that the original drywall skim wasn’t primed / mist coat and walls were coated in a silk paint.. not great ☹️
      ..Hope this helps.. please keep in touch on your spraying journey, I’m more than happy to help any way I can.. I’ll always get back to you my friend 🙏 regards Pete

    I'm yet tk find one that does everthing ie sprays beautifully, low overspray and touched in etc
    Next product I'm trying out is nesprii form caparol after having a go with there capasilan which is phenomenal by the way...just doesn't touch up to great

      Hey Matt, great to hear from you buddy.. I’m all good, hope you are too 🙏 ..Good question and I know what you’re saying.. Unfortunately I can’t say for sure that Teknoceiling will touch in / sprayed with the handheld.. Sorry I will have to test that out 👍 ..I’ve had success with AR2 with a ceiling that I’d sprayed and then revisited after an unfortunate incident causing water damage.. I’d hope Teknoceiling performs the same.. after some fine surface filling I used the handheld for the touch up, spraying AR2 and custoner was blown away and obviously pleased that you couldn’t detect the repair / touch up.. this was the video.. If I recall I used a TriTech Ultra 616 to get it spraying real nice through the handheld 👌 ..maybe that helped the touch up, you do get a real fine atomisation with an Ultra..

      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety

      Well spotted my friend 😆 ..Yeah it’s the smallest whip hose available (so I believe).. it’s a Graco 1.4m 1/8” whip.. Link below ..The ‘official’ application for this size whip, is for spraying fine finishes attaching to a 3/16” (trim / woodwork materials that’s a lower viscosity).. however I’m choosing to also use this whip / hose setup to spray emulsions.. (just wanted to be honest with you) ..I’m guessing your whip is 3/16” which would attach to a 1/4” hose that’s typically used for emulsion
      Here’s the exact whip I use

      If you don’t already have a Graco Contractor gun, or the Contractor Compact gun.. the 1/8” whip cones with the compact gun in this bundle, it’s an awesome gun and a great offer 👍

    Hey.. so curious, I thought the FF LP series of tips would be sub 1000 PSI. Isn't 1500 a lot of PSI for the 514? Just starting my journey, trying to learn from all the pros on here. I picked up the 112 and 310 assuming both would probably run at about 800psi or so. Is that way too low?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 4 měsíci

      Good question my friend.. there’s no set PSI in what is considered low pressure - the paint viscosity and the materials ability to atomise will play a huge part.. for example I can spray low viscosity primers and topcoats with .008 tips at around 800 psi.. whereas a material that is also a brush / roll product, with an FF LP 310, you could be around 1200 PSI ..a note on your 112 - it will let a lot of material through, over a 2” fan.. my experience, unless it’s a thicker, slower flowing material, it would be hard to manage.. you would have to move extremely fast.. hope this helps, regards Pete 💙💯

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey John, it’s not necessarily because I’m using an FFLP, for example the 514 is an FFLP and being a .014 orifice size, I’m spraying a thicker emulsion, I stuck to the 60 mesh .. it’s anytime I’m spraying trim / woodwork paints (lower viscosity), and I’m choosing an FFLP size, say a .010 or .008.. I’ll then change to a 100 mesh.. and I always change the manifold and gun 👍 ..Hope that makes sense, I appreciate it sounds confusing.. regards Pete

    Hi Pete, an excellent overview, many thanks for posting. I have a couple of questions:
    If you are not spraying the trim do you still use the sensitive Deltec purple tape before masking it off, in case the client’s paint peels off when de-masking?
    Secondly, do you have any suggestions when it comes to Georgian windows? I’d considered masking each pane, to spray, but then realised the widows needed to be opened slightly to catch the edges and any overspray would have hit their ivy! As it was on the first floor, covering the outside would have been a challenge - I hate to admit it but I opted for a brush instead!
    With thanks and best wishes, Rob

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +2

      Hello Rob my friend.. good question, my preference is to use the standard (gold) tape and will check all I can if I’m able to safely mask up with that.. otherwise, yeah I’d use the purple, but there’s a risk the tape will blow off or underperform when spraying.. it’s a tricky dilemma.. sometimes I opt for the yellow Frog Tape on customers paintwork, especially if I was manually using a brush / roller on those areas 👍 ..regarding the Georgian windows, typically sash windows but I’m thinking they had regular window openings and you was looking to spray the inside? Apologies if I’m wrong, just you mentioned having to open slightly to catch the edge.. standard openings are possible to mask (from the inside the property) round the ‘external’ reveal (the bit you don’t see), then mask round the outside edge of the window that opens.. before finally using brown paper in a ‘triangle’ to mask and bridge the gap (to stop spray going outside).. it is tricky, sash windows even trickier (if not impossible) to complete without manually and carefully using a roller to get the edges.. fair play to choosing to brush 👍 from our chats I can see that you’re very logical in your thought process to tackle jobs and sometimes spraying or spraying everything isn’t the solution 😆 ..You’re doing great my friend 🙏 all the very best.. regards Pete

      @@PaintHQ Hi Pete, Thanks for your detailed response. I should have been more detailed - there were casement windows, hinged on the side. Good morning pere. Just wondering if you could please answer this question for me.
    Would a graco fflp tip and guard work with a wagner gun?
    The wagner gun is a good bit cheaper in the sprayman site.
    BTW I have bought an erbauer airless to get me started, and trying to upgrade the gun, tip and guard to get the best finish I can.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    David

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před rokem

      Morning David, short answer is yes a 7/8” tip guard will fit and interchange all latest addition guns from Graco / Wagner / TriTech.. it’s just much older guns that can have a different size tip guard thread.. I suspect the Erbauer gun will have a 7/8” thread, I’ve had a quick look for you but can’t confirm 100%.. The thread that attaches the gun to the hose, that’s trickier to answer.. Professional pump manufacturers from Graco / Wagner / TriTech use a 1/4” NPS thread, which is an American standard fitting.. but for safety reasons, DIY sprayers, such as the ControlPro range from Wagner have a proprietary size.. this is because DIY pumps will have a lower pressure rating and it would stop a DIY hose being used on a much higher rated professional pump and causing a safety hazard.. again I’ve looked into it for you and cannot confirm what the Erbauer thread size is, I wouldn’t want you spending a lot of money only to find the gun won’t fit.. if I was you, I’d go for a Graco FFLP (and Graco tip guard) for fine atomisation, but the gun isn’t critical in producing the finish.. the gun is user comfort and lasting quality (it could spit with wear).. the finish quality is atomisation, paint choice and technique 👍 ..if that makes sense 😆 ..regards Pete

      Hey Jeff.. this project only had fresh plaster on the ceiling and media wall 👍 The rest was existing emulsion / paint work.. purely because the media wall was boarded out to create the boxes, had electrics running to the lights and then the switch wire was run across the ceiling to a new switch chased into the wall.. hope this makes sense 😆 yeah I guess it would look like I was only doing the ceiling and not the walls.. it’s important to mist coat / or use an acrylic primer on all fresh plaster 👍 ..Hope this helps my friend.. thanks for your question 🙏 regards Pete

    Hi Pete, Where's the best place to buy the plastic film? Not so much the cheapest, only I have a massive job starting soon and will need boxes of it, thanks.

      Hi Mark, happy to help buddy.. I tend to stick to 99” (ceiling to floor) for all my plastic film purchases to work with the 3M Hand Masker.. in this video, I’m using a proprietary offering from MyPaintbrush.. it’s very cost effective, especially in bulk.. however it can snag if you get a bad one that’s poorly folded.. not a disaster in terms of protecting but can be a pain trying to sort it out .. this is the bulk purchase..
      www.mypaintbrush.co.uk/mpb-pre-folded-film-99-box
      My favourite / go to / awesome quality as you’d expect from 3M, again 99”, no snagging, perfectly folded.. normally this is available in bulk but I just checked for you and I could only see the single units available..
      www.mypaintbrush.co.uk/masking-tape-mpb/masking-film-online/3M-masking-film-mf99
      ..Can I add, in the near future I’m looking to link all my recommendations to my good friends at SpraymanUK for all masking supplies.. Please check them out at your leisure, new lines being added all the time 👍

    Hello, I've used this to spray multiple fences with 311 tip and am about to spray an entire house inside with 517 tip. Do you think the emulsion will need diluted for this tip when used with the 250m?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před rokem

      Hey George, in theory you shouldn’t need to dilute when airless spraying and making the right tip selection.. I prefer to spray emulsion with a 515 and sometimes add just a splash of water (an egg cup amount), just to ease the flow and cut down the pressure.. so yeah you should be fine with a 517, may just need to move a little quicker 👍 ..hope this helps.. keep in touch my friend, always happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete

    Morning. I’m currently using Tessa yellow and I’m finding that sometimes after spraying it’s coming away due to being wet, mainly around the top of skirting boards. Am I doing something wrong? 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Hey Freddie, hope you’re keeping well.. just checking are you spraying your trim / woodwork first? Then masking with brown paper to spray the walls up onto the ceiling?.. I have a lot of success using Deltec Gold in these situations, masking skirting / architrave with 12” brown paper on the 3M Hand Masker.. I was having a good chat to Tesa recently at Trade Decorator Live, very knowledgeable team.. I’d have to give their products a good test to see how they compare 🙏 ..regards Pete

      @@PaintHQ Hi Pete. All is good, thanks. Hope you’re well. Beautiful work as always on this latest room. I love watching you work and take in as much info as a I can. I’m not a full time decorator I’m actually a general (internal) builder but love decorating my own projects, especially if I can spray. So I may go a few months before I can get the sprayer out. I’m getting pretty good at achieving a good finish and only use top branded paints. I just need to fine tune my knowledge with tips and tricks which can only come from experience and of course watching your videos and chatting to you now and then. My current project (been there 6 months so far) is a great playground for spraying. In a 150m2 open space I’ve built a kitchen/dinner. Cinema room. Bedroom with on-suite and walk-in wardrobe which now is all being decorated by myself using Optiva Primer on the plastered walls with Optiva 5 as my top coat and Halftprimer and Helmi 30 on the woodwork (not in that order lol) I’m loving how it’s looking so far but as I say it’s the little things that I need to tweak. Love prep and have 5 Festool sanders for different applications. I won’t skip any steps! I will give the Deltec a try. Tessa yellow is fine when pulling off the skirting etc but as I said it can peak away now and then after a spray. Thanks for your help as always.

I also use it when masking fence posts 👍 ..I know it’s widely used by those masking to apply exterior render..

      Hey Jeff, yeah AAA is awesome for a much improved transfer efficiency of paint.. basically I love spraying and try to feature various methods to help others get the best out of each application.. I’d recommend to everyone or anyone looking to start spraying, to airless spray ceilings ..then if you’re able to move on to air assisted airless, that’s even better 😆 thanks my friend, appreciate your feedback 🙏 regards Pete

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před rokem +1

      Hey Darren, 3 days for everything you see in the video, a 4th day was spent spraying clear lacquer on oak skirting that was fitted after the floor was laid.. otherwise excluding prep, this is a typical schedule for main wall colour, accent / feature colour and ceiling always last..
      Day one. Mist coat fresh plaster and spray main colour. Spraying walls and media wall cabinet boxes
      Day Two. Mask main walls (and media wall boxes) to spray accent colour / feature wall
      Day Three. Mask walls to spray ceiling

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před rokem

      ciao Nicolò, grazie per la tua domanda.. un 515 secondo me è più adatto per spruzzare emulsione, soprattutto in abitazioni occupate.. con un 515 ottieni meno fluidi rispetto a un 517, quindi avrai più controllo (potresti muoverti più lentamente ), e potenzialmente potresti usare meno materiale.. puoi usare un 517 soprattutto se il materiale è più spesso, e potresti muoverti più velocemente.. spero che questo aiuti il mio amico, tieniti in contatto.. saluti Pete

      30% water is added only on the mist coat, to prime the fresh plaster my friend.. using an acrylic based white emulsion 👍 ..After the mist coat, 2 top coats of the colour are sprayed, either with no water or just a splash to ease the flow 👍 ..thanks for your input, great to hear how you do it buddy.. regards Pete
