Now, thankfully, she has a wonderful girlfriend who cares deeply for her and they support each other and make each other happy, even helping each other through emotional wounds. I'm glad that she's alright now, and out of that toxic relationship.

We get confused and do not see the different types of love for what they are. A big difference between a healthy and unhealthy type of love is this (imo): Healthy love, you are one of the most important parts of their life. They want you to be happy, but if you can't be they will be sad with you. Unhealthy love, they want them self to be the most important part of your life. They want you to be happy when you are with them, and want you to be sad when they are.
Too often many people fall into these relationships. They start off with small things like, "where are you going?" oh "who's going with you?" it may seem innocent at first, but when the person is toxic and controlling they will start to isolate their partner from their friends and family slowly. They will manipulate them, they will say things like "if you leave me I will kill myself." or "you can't leave me cause no one will want you." They will also control the money and financials in the relationship so the partner is codependent on them for everything. It is pretty common in Male - women relationships, but this is a problem in all types of relationships. Gays, Lesbians, Parent to child. Toxic and controlling people love power. We need to educate young people early on to see the signs and also trust in their instincts/guts a little more. Our bodies have ways of letting us know when something ain't right. You may think you are IN LOVE with a person, but at the expense of your own well being it isn't worthy it. NO one is.
