- Sky News host Cory Bernardi says the digital ID push by the Australian Labor government has the potential to become a “license to go on the internet”.
“We saw the introduction of the non-compulsory, and we’re assured it’s non-compulsory, digital ID bill in this last session,” Mr Bernardi said.
“Personally, I wouldn’t trust government with any information if I had a choice.
“But especially not a license to go on the internet, which is my pejorative description.
“I think that’s got the potential to become exactly that, though.”

I was a very early adopter of the internet. Back in the late 90's the internet was a promised land. True freedom from any form of regulation. Now since the invention of smart phones and normies gaining access to the internet, it's become almost unusable. Advertising, subscription services for everything, bans for saying the most benign things. Overly moderated, devoid of anything remotely resembling fun. And now this. Why even bother having the internet if they're going to require a digital ID to use it? Just go ahead and force everyone to only watch the ABC or something.
I was on Bulletin Board Services long before the internet and of course was an early adopter too. I had just finished a degree in Inf Tech when the internet was unleased upon the masses. It was great for a while but I agree Subscription services, Censorship, Scammers and Advertising have destroyed the fun and adventure of it all. In the good old days of BB services you simply weren't allowed to swear or make threats to people. Things that you already weren't allowed to do on a landline telephone. BB services were also free and included royalty free programmes and games and utilities to download. This was all under the Commonwealth Communications Act of Australia at the time.

They'll do it on the grounds of anti-money-laundering and financial safety. The gov't will enforce laws onto banks (among the many ID and verification laws already mandated on banks) that if you don't have the digital ID, you won't be able to open, keep, or use a bank account.
If your refuse, you'll effectively be locked out of society. Because in today's modern world, you need access to banking services to survive.
