My parents had one of these is yellow with the bench seats and the 429 just like your video and no air conditioning. For a big car it would really haul it. I believe it had a 9 inch rear end.
Kevin, if it was a 1971 model, it was not an XL, or a Galaxy XL, or a Galaxie XL. The Galaxie 500 XL was introduced for the 1962 model year and ran through 1966. For 1967 through 1970 the XL was a standalone nameplate. The 1971 models saw the lineup reduced to Galaxie and LTD models, with no XL model at all. Your car may have been a 1971 Galaxie 500 with a 351, but it simply could not have been an XL. My first car was a 1969 XL with a 390. I have been following these cars for 50 years and I know what I speak of. BTW, the proper spelling is “Galaxie”. Ford uses the spelling “Galaxy” on a minivan that it sells in European markets.
@@roymcgaw7431 The guy that sold it to me said it was a '71 but now that I think about it with the pneumatic headlights and black fastback roof and dark green body was likely an earlier model but the motor was pulled for a 351 and the ball joints were awful too, they were riveted in and eventually the frame rotted out; I junked it.
With a bench seat??!!! I've never seen one with a bench seat before, and since I started getting parts for it in 1977, I've never come across one. I have seen a Galaxie fastback 429 with a bench seat, but never an XL (in ’9 and '70 the XL was an actual model, not a trim package, so they're NOT technically Galaxies those 2 years). The one I own was bought new by my parents, and it's been my passion since I was a kid. Bucket seats, console and horseshoe shift.
A beautiful Ford. Mustangs, Torinos or Cougars were not the only nice looking cars from FoMoCo of that era.. There are plenty of them in the shadows. I would buy this car in a blink of an eye if i had the $$$$..
omg my parents had a 1970 blue w/black top coupe. I want one.
Love the Ford racing license plate, beautiful !!! Car
Me too! The Ford Racing logo is one of the best around, it never gets old.
The ULTIMATE Gentleman's muscle car...
True statement!

My Sister had one, It was light Green with a White Interior, It was a 390 2V
Marvelous !!!
It is a beauty!
I had a 1970 Brown with White top black interior bucket seats had a 351
I had the 1971 version of this car very fast!
No, you didn’t. The final year for the XL was 1970. There were LTDs and Galaxie 500s in 1971, it no XLs.
@@roymcgaw7431 It was a Galaxy XL it had the 351 not 428.

@@roymcgaw7431 Okay I didn't know, on the hood was the tag XL so I just assumed... Thanks for straightening that out, good to know these things.

Some cousins of mine back East had one in black over turquoise!
Nice! Do they still have it?
Unfortunately, where they lived, it rusted out after a decade, in Cassopolis, Michigan!

Missing the XL badging on the nose of the hood.
The movie ROMA brought me here
Same car Davis berkowitz owned.but his was a 4 door
The only thing that could make this car better is a console and bucket seats
I cant disagree with that!

Where can I purchase a 1969 ford xl of yellow and black
That's exactly my high school car!!! I'm no motor head but does that have the 429 Cobra Jet?
Cobra Jet was not available on these big cars. They could have the 429 Thunderjet which was a tamer 4 bbl 429/360.
No, not available in the XL. The best you could get was the 4V Thunderjet engine.
Has car been restored, repainted?
