Been painting extremely high end jobs in the San Francisco bay area for over 25 years. I feather my cut ins and never had a halo or any texture differences. I notice guys from the midwest always brush and roll their cut ins, but we always have to show them what I'm talking about.
Also on a wall like this, I would apply slightly too much paint quickly and fairly evenly with a roller. Right as (or just before) it sets up I go back over it without adding more paint. This is where I make all my clean strokes, even out the paint and ensure no flashing. We call this "knock down"
Do it right and you get little to no stipple like it was sprayed
These techniques involve some subtle nuances and take a minute to perfect, but you ever have a picky client who is bothered by roller stipple (yes, those people actually exist all over California) you'll need this technique or a sprayer
Love the channel, thanks for all the great content

Thanks Chris, always looking for ways to improve my skills. I used your caulking tip from an earlier video in a bathroom around the shower enclosure and counter top/back splash and the results were amazing! Also like that you showcase products/definitely would like to try the Tower Eccelerator, there's been many times where I last minute caulked and that product would have left a much better result.

Hi Chris. Really enjoy your videos and the knowledge you bring. I had a question. I'm painting my dining room which is a combination of new drywall, and lath/plaster. On the plaster walls, I can see the spots where I had to fill and sand before I primed after my 1st coat of the finish color. I did sand it until smooth. We're using a fairly dark blue Benjamin Moore Regal Select. Will a 2nd coat take care of this, or is there something I can do to help the spots fade? I'm sanding in between coats. Thanks for all you do!

Hi Chris. Thanks for your videos! I'm in Australia and just started painting the inside of my entire house, starting with a very dark purple accent wall in our living area. Really large wall, going up to a peaked height of almost 15 feet. I tried really hard to do a good job, but failed. I did two coats of cutting in and took the tape off after it all dried, so there was some bleeding. This will be fixed when I get back to this room and do the other walls. The big problem is that after being really careful to load up the roller and paint a nice, thick but even coat (fourth coat!!), and then gently laying off top to bottom, I can see see stripes after it's dried. SO frustrating!! I have a good quality roller sleeve at 15mm nap and the finish is good - no ridges or uneven spots, etc .. just those stripes. Any further tips or tricks to fix it? I'm planning on a light sand then another light coat, this time in a flat/matte version of the paint (rather than the low sheen I used). I used Dulux Wash & Wear paint. Thank you!

    1) If doing the wall alone, would you recommend adding a paint extender on these darker colors (if so, would you add this just to the paint used to cut-in or all of it?); 2) Regarding dry time and a wet edge: I imagine you've used Marquee/Dynasty from Behr. I dread when a client buys or requests these. It certainly is a one-coat paint, but I find it impossible to lay it out and paint to a wet edge because it gets tacky so quickly even with an extender. Any recommendations for these paints?; 3) Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience. It has been crucial in helping me hone my skills from DIY to Professional and start my painting business in the last year.

Hi! I've painted many rooms, in places that I've lived, or relative's, but 99% of the time I painted alone. Usually I did 2 coats of cutting, then rolled. So yes, I usually got 'halos', but that was because if I tried to 'cut+roll', the paint ALWAYS started to 'scab' in the tray! Can't win! So, I'm about to do an accent wall/hallway in my new place. You told me to use flat. I was really trying to decide the sheen. I guess that would leave less stroke marks and halo-ing too? I just don't see how I can get around my other problems though-pulling tape off while wet, halos, rolling while cutting is wet...
