During the recent power issues in TX, this conversion was priceless because it eliminated the need for finding, transporting, and storing gasoline. I have a Wen 56235i which is similar internally. I had a hard time getting the bolts on and ended up backing out the studs a few turns. Worked like a charm. Thanks again!

@@PhatTony-wr1ek Hello, I haven't used ASA myself but I understand it's supposed to be a superior material. I have used ABS and I printed at .2mm layer height. I know that I have had marginal results with ABS unless using a fully enclosed printer. I'm not an expert on printing but with the open frame printer I have now I would go with PETG. Hope that helps.

Thank you very much. Im not sure about PLA, I used ABS when I made mine but ABS is really hard to print with unless you have a printer with an enclosure. For a regular open frame printer I would recommend PETG
My 12kw Rainier Generator dual fuel (LP/petrol) seems to run fine when I connect NG to the LP regulator with no modification except need to adjust choke half way. Is there something wrong with doing this. Thanks

I would like to convert a Harbor Freight Predator 3500 generator to run on gasoline or propane. The conversion kits I've seen only allow you to run it on propane. I don't have, nor do I know anyone who has, a 3D printer. Will your parts work on any propane conversion kit?
How much per hour does it cost to operate this WEN generator at 50% load on natural gas? Just a rough estimate. I realize gases prices are different depending on where you live. Thank you for the video.
Nice video. I was wondering if instead of using the 3D printed adapter if introducing the natural gas or propane via the inlet for the valve breather would work also? It right there on the elbow of the intake snorkel. Any thought if that would work also?
For the demand regulator to work, and for the engine to be able to be throttled properly, you need the gas to come in right at the mouth of the carburetor. Even better I think would be for the gas to come in on the engine side of the throttle plate.

My generator has a wire from the hose connect that plugs into an electrical fitting on the generator. It won’t start unless this wire is plugged in. What do I do here. When you plug it in you can hear a click sound. My generator is gas and propane. I would like to convert it to natural gas so I could use my deck quick coupling attachment for my BBQ

Now I haven't hooked it up yet but I've already bought some things for them but haven't installed them yet like quick connects and 12 ft. propane gas line. Now the generator is supposed to run on both gas and propane but I also want the option to run natural gas if I needed to. I've looked all over the net and I can't find a tri-fuel conversion for my size of generator. Think you can help ?
Just to confirm, it still runs on gasoline if you wanted it to do so? Couldn't tell after you installed the adapter if the fuel line for gasoline was still in place or not. This is a great video!
Hey, I have referenced your video a few times in my search for buying a generator for my RV. I got a Ryobi Bluetooth version since I work for them and get a major discount. I downloaded the solidworks file and am working on modifying it for this generator. Are there any major things I should think about, Angle of gas entry or anything like that? My plan is route the Carb line through the housing and attaching the block valve with a quick connect there then routing the hose over to the RV with a quick disconnect to the regulator on the RV. Do you see any issues with that?

Tim- I also have the RYI2300 Ryobi BT gen. I having a heck of a time starting with natural gas. One time I was able to jump from regular gas over to natural gas, but then I had to hold the primer button down to keep the engine running. Any tips?

What filament type did you use for printing the snorkel? I'm assuming ABS since you used acetone to clean it up. Do you think PETG would be okay? I haven't had many successful prints with ABS. Thanks!

Hi Chris - I'm sure I've missed something, but why the need for a regulator at the propane tank as well as the kitted one mounted on the generator itself.
the regulator at the generator is very low pressure and more or less throttles the propane into the motor based on the engine vacuum. the regulator at the tank just steps the pressure way down so the secondary regulator can handle the propane pressure.
Great video, thanks for the specifics! Would you be able to compensate for altitude by just leaning the fuel flow? I camp at 10-13k feet and the gasoline is a set mix, so it runs at a significant reduction.
Chris, I notice you are using 3/8 gas hose. I bought a Sorkel conversion kit from US carburetion. I have to press the primer button all the time in order to run the generator. Their help desk told me 3/8 hose is too small for a generator. I have a Wen 56225i. The conversion kit has same regulator. Thanks
The regulator inlet is 3/4" usually from us carb. A 1/2 hose runs my 3500 watt ok. They do make 3/4" hoses, a little pricey but should work great for your gen.
@@briang9198 Thanks for taking your time answering. I ended up run the generator with 3/8 hose. The current hookup on my deck is 3/8. After I read more online I learned that it's better to run the generator with gas first just to lubricate the machine. Then you can switch to gas or propane. It took me several days to get the machine started with gas. After the first run it starts and runs normally with no issue. It's the first time start with gas making it so hard. Cheers!
@@myzmlm Nice! Yes, I did the same thing and broke it in on gasoline first then switched. The switch is the harder part since it'll run a little rich for a bit due to some leftover gasoline fumes. Good idea on using the deck hookup, convenient!
Nice video. Btw, is there no problem with the gas being too cold at the inlet of the pressure regulator ? I noticed you're using propane, which has a low cooking point (- 42C) and a high vapor pressure. So this will run smoothly. But what if you're using LPG (common in Europe) or butane gas ?
Philip Gevaert hello, there are 2 different regulators for propane and one for natural gas given different pressures. I haven’t had any issues using these. In the description there is a link to instructions with correct parts to purchase.

I bought this generator based on reading numerous reviews and the fact that I cant afford the Honda. I have this generator for emergencies and camping but I haven't used it much so I don't have any valuable feedback. It seems like a great generator, It doesn't look or feel cheep and seems well made. Ive had no issues and it functions great. but like I said I haven't put a lot of hours on it so I cant really speak to its reliability.

That is really an eyesore, that Regulator sticking out of the generator like that. Also, it makes the generator bigger and harder to fit in some places. I have seen some nice Mods where both regulators are on the propane tank and not on the generator. Thanks for sharing, but this is one mod I will no do because of its awkwardness.
EL EVO Yeah you can mount the regulator wherever you want. Not really a great place on the generator that isn’t an eye sore but it is what it is and I want to be able to plug into propane tanks or the natural gas from my house without a hassle. Had a power outage about two weeks ago and I just plugged it into the house and it ran all night didn’t have to worry about liquid gas or running out of gas it was kind of nice.
The low pressure, on-demand regulator (the large one) is always recommended to be a near to the carburetor as possible. The "on-demand" part is based on engine vacuum and the longer the hose between the carb & regulator, the greater the lag between demand and supply changes.

Run it too lean, then run too rich, then somewhere in the middle. Or get an o2 sensor to put in an exhaust extension and measure the actual fuel mix.
I may have missed it in the instructions, but is what is the spec of the hose going from the regulator to the carb adapter?

It is ABS, I havnt had any issues, doesnt seem to get too hot

What about varying loads? When more demand is needed will it auto adjust the fuel gas/propane when it need more amp/watts?
yes they regulator will throttle the gas coming in as needed.
Thanks Chris, any rough idea the temperature carburetor gets? Also would 1/4 ID tube from carburetor to low pressure regulator too thin?
5/16 works great on mine so I think 1/4 would work on the fuel output side of the tee.

You’d have to be able to adjust the flow from the demand regulator like he does with the t fitting valve that he made.

I don't see any issues, I didn't do anything special for gas entry, nothing as far as angle or anything.

There are jet kits available from WEN for high altitudes.

Place the tank near the cooling outlet from the generator. Not the exhaust though.

you want to turn off the propane first and let it die that way, when you use the off knob it continues to suck propane as the engine winds down.
