hey max, i've been practicing every day and i've watched your videos about the slide techinque a few times. i want to know what you suggest if i'm having trouble sliding my foot up the foot board due to high friction? i'm using a dyna sync with a smooth metal board that my rubber soles love to catch onto. someone i know suggested i buy dancing shoes. but i'm guessing it's probably some issue with technique. haven't been able to figure it out though.

What shoes are you wearing? I'd aim to change those prior to changing your pedal. I wear Adidas Sambas. Any chill Converse (high top/low top chuck) works wonders as well.
Another thing you can do is mess with the length of your beater- that will change the range of motion you have to slide to achieve double and single strokes.
Keep at it! Don't give up

      I will never give up.
I wear vans. I am heavily considering returning my dyna sync and getting a used DW 5000 or 7000 to save money because I just lost my job. I could use the extra $300. Are used pedals a no-go? Drumming is so expensive, but I will do anything for music. Also worth noting my friend has a DW 5000 and i tried it out when I was over, gotta say I did find it easier to slide. Probably because the foot board isn’t such flat metal. Could’ve been an illusion though? For all I know, it was something else. Also you illustrated innyour video that the shoes shouldnt matter too much, you did it with those bulky hiking shoes. I have some pumas that look very similar to your sambas. Probably will get a cheaper pedal so I have a little longer to find a job but either way I will learn this technique. chain drive vs direct drive is a distinction I know nothing about, I don’t have a preference, I just saw really great things about the Dyna Sync and more notably it seemed like nobody had anything bad to say about it, so it seemed like a safe choice. What do you think?
I used to have my ride on the left because I was used to doing steady sixteenths on the hihat, and it carried over to the ride. But yesterday I switched it back because I realized I dont want to turn my left arm into a timekeeper. I want both my arms to be capable of leading or following. I am very determined and I am practicing every day.

@@esobrev You have the right attitude!
Honestly I think chain drive does make a difference. A DW 5000 sounds like it could help you significantly.
      Keep on keepin on
