- We love our HDT, but she's getting older and some of her original parts are wearing out. In this episode, Bubba replaces the air compressor, which he discovered was going out shortly after we arrived in Arkansas. Bubba takes you through an overview of how he removed the old one, prepping the new one for installation, and describing (and showing) how he got the new one installed.
Join us as we provide ongoing maintenance to keep our HDT and RV on the road!
The most action packed video on the Internet
I like the caveat “I’m not a mechanic”. That’s a big job for a shade tree wrench, but nothing time and toothpicks can’t cure.👍👍
Thank you! Couldn't have done it without the toothpick lol.
Gosh! Bubba is more of a mechanic than I am!! Good for him!
I think he does pretty well!
I'm a fan for Wrenches & Ratchets, enjoyed watching every second. Probably - best video - On being your own mechanic. Thank you.
Thank you so much! We're glad you enjoyed it.
That rooster hasn’t become dinner yet, more patience than me, biscuits n gravy fried chicken👍😃 🍗
When I do something, it’s several trips to hardware store, let alone garage. Good Job, well done for not being a mechanic.
Mom won't let us kill her rooster, which is the ONLY reason he hasn't ended up in a pot! One of these days maybe...
Good job. Marly looks to have some blue heeler mix, good dogs.
Yes, she's full blooded blue heeler. Smart girl and very well behaved.
@@TipsyMarlinTravels good breed. never had one. I had a husky....good dog, but busy when it got nasty out. Worse the weather, more i was walking him outside
Lol those huskies love cold weather and they're so beautiful!
Last week bubba couldn’t spell mechanic now he are one! 👍😁 enjoy your alls channel keep up the good work on the videos
😂😂 lol thank you!!
Thank you
Good job Bubba! Glad Kat was there to help! Sometimes with a little patience, experience, observation and a few curse words a "will" can be made to be "done" !!! Now you are one step closer to getting back on the road.
Those curse words really do help sometimes 🤣 We're getting really excited to be back on the road soon.
Nice job buddy. What i do about the screw not to fall from the socket, i take a little piece of papertowel and put it on top of the screw and stick in the socket it will also stay steady.
You deserve a COLD ONE, Bubba !!!!!!!!!!
two
Thank you! I'll have one for you too. 🍻
Yes!
At least she didn't surprise you with a Carolina Reaper flavored toothpick LOL
Lol!
@@TipsyMarlinTravels admittedly, never had a cinnamon toothpick. gotta look that up
I am knew to your channel. Just found it 2 nights ago. Great job BTW. Done a couple of them. Call Pete with vin they can look up the part originally installed on your truck. Sometimes Cummings can off engine vin.
Welcome and we're so glad you found us. Yes, Peterbilt is very familiar with our vin lol. Many blessings!
I’m a shade tree mechanic myself, I hate to tell anyone how to do something. However I’ve learned that cussing seems to ease the pain when tackling a job such as this. Thank you for another great video.
Yes, those cuss words do seem to help!
Yes, those cuss words do seem to help!
Good job bubba!! We have to get our compressor changed also.
I can’t believe lulu didn’t make the cut for this video!! Lol. Miss you guys!
It's waaaayyy too much to try to handle her and hold the camera lol! She'll be in our videos again soon, probably with Marley. We miss you too!
Good job
Thank you!
Good job I feel your pain been there myself. Great video now have a beer. Stay safe and God bless
Thank you!
Fixing this stuff yourself is the only way to go. Shop rates will turn anyone's budget upside down. Have 31 more day's with my company and am moving back to MT. Hope to see you on the road. Sold my company and have my freedom May 31'st
Congratulations and well done with your business!!! What part of MT are you moving to? We'll be up that way in another month or two. We hope you really enjoy your new found freedom. Having a business is like having another child. Needs to be babysat 24/7. We're really happy that you have great things to look forward to!
@@TipsyMarlinTravels Thank you. Was born and raised on a farm in the 4 corners area of Bozeman. Brothers still own it. We bought 800 acres just 1 mile west of there. Brothers will farm it; we just wanted the house and buildings. I moved to Phoenix in the late 70's and started a historical renovation business. Worked all over tha USA. Have worn out 4 class A's. Have many miles under my belt but have seen nothing except job sites. We pick up our new bus in Florida around the 10'th of June and hope to be back in MT first of July. Unfortunatly we have to stay in MT for 6 straight months to get our residency back. All in all though not a bad place to be. We plan to travel at probably the same rate as we have for the last years. Around 200 day's a year. Would love to meet you
You look like a mechanic to me! Good thing you were wearing that Mackinaw Mechanic shirt. Man that's a loud rooster! Does he do that all day? 2:30-3:00 sounds like beer thirty to me!
Lol those Mackinaw shirts sure are getting their use, aren't they? 😂😂😂 Yes, that rooster crows on and off all day. You should see him chasing Bubba on the zero turn lawnmower 😂 He's such a jerk. We named him Richard.
Hi guys... Notice that you was not bleeding... I guess that's a good thing... Every time I do something like that I get skin up 🤣🤣...good job...mine is a little bigger but it is more accessible...still heavy 😗😗..hope to see you guys in national hdt rally...take care..stay safe..J&A
Nope, luckily I escaped without injury! Usually it's the top of my head that takes the beating. Safe travels guys and hope to see you soon.
Bubba, old school trick. How to make your own cinimon tooth picks. Used to go to the local pharmacy and buy the oil and then soak my tooth picks in it.
Old country boys love our tooth picks.😂💞
Yes we do love them! My mom used to make cinnamon and clove flavored toothpicks. Sure beats store bought.
@@TipsyMarlinTravels Yep,. Had them from grade school. Was better than chew. Grandpa started me. Told me this won't kill ya. And makes the girls like you. Allways had fresh breath😂😂
You had a wise grandpa!!
Damn 🐓🐓 telling you to get back on the road😂💞😆
Yes he is! We'll be back on the road again before too long.
@@TipsyMarlinTravels can't wait😆😆
hi kat , I showed saddle seat for 10 years , currently in high springs fl if you are ever near ocala fl go to world equestrian center just opened with camping next door !
That's awesome!!! Thanks for the tip. I will make sure we check it out when we're back in that part of the country.
For as big as the engines are in these things, sometimes the amount of stuff you have to remove just to get access never ceases to amaze me. What were some of the symptoms that led you to replace the compressor? Slow to build air? Noise from the compressor? You saved yourself a chunk of change with shop rates running 120-160 an hr these days. Nice job!
The compressor was making a loud clanging or thumping noise. Sounded like an engine throwing a rod, which is what led us to replace it. It was the original, soooo, almost 17 years old. It's amazing just how expensive shop rates are these days. We figure every dollar we save there buys us more fun on the road 😁
Kat your friend the Rooster made himself known. Lol
Lol he always makes himself known 🤣🤣
You should have put some grease on the gasket so it stays in place.
Quality control is down for you bud.
Caveat: I don't even ask my girl for a cup of coffee...if she's out, she asks if i want one (always YES) - around the house, i'll do it myself. "the old fashiond way"
You just can't get good help these days 😂
@@TipsyMarlinTravels i couldn't get good help if i paid for it.
Watch that is wear the air leak was.
Wouldn't that stink? Lol.
If u would’ve had a cinnamon toothpick it would’ve been easier to get the air compressor off😳
😂😂😂😂 Funny, he told me the same thing!
I would have expected that engine was clean enough to eat off of. 🧐
Sadly we didn't get to see your Beautiful Half in this video 😢 🤭😘
We usually gat it steam cleaned when we go through Blue Beacon, but it's been a while.
@@TipsyMarlinTravels You guys have some of the best content. And we enjoy your channel greatly 😀
We are hoping to get to meet you both at the West Coast Truck Rally this year.
We only live about 30-45 minutes from where it's held. And just kidding you about a dirty Truck! I know dirty anything gets driving or dragging it down the highway. Lol
Bubba's glove supplier needs to get him better gloves.
Yes, probably so.
YUK! doesn't look like "fun"!
No, but necessary. Gotta keep the old girl running so we can get back on the road before too long.
