Evening and Night newscasts from Channel 4, WTAE in Pittsburgh. February 27, 1979. Anchors are Paul Long, Don Cannon, and Myron Cope and Bill Hillgrove on sports.
Seems like such a better time then today. I was born in 90s and that was great but just how things are today makes me sad to think how far society has regressed.
Not a bad time for sports in the ol' burg. About a month removed from the Steelers beating the Cowboys in the Super. And oh by the way, another Super Bowl win was right around the corner. Pirates about 8 months away from winning the World Series. Pitt football a top 5/6 team. And lastly, and most importantly, this broadcast was about 9 months before The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh would be playing at a theater near you. :)
Me Too. WTAE Channel 4 Local News Back In This Generation Was Good Journalism. I Miss Myron Cope Now. He Was One Of The Greatest Pittsburgh Icons Of All Time. A Legendary Pittsburgh Icon.
My God Cyril Wecht was investigated back then too? Geez. I remember delivering the discovery documents for a print shop I worked for the last time someone, uh the NFL went after him. That explains why he swears so much.
I met Don Cannon about 2002. Thanks for posting media stash!
What a fantastic ending to a local newscast. That last shot is so dramatic with the Classical Gas theme building up to its crescendo.
