I'm sad I didn't get to see Dan's reaction to realising that Jean's baby was his, because he mentioned that he wanted to be a parent. I also want to know if he, Jean and Joanna are going to end up coparenting the baby, because "I have three parents and only one of them is my mum" would make a great soap-opera spinoff. I feel like the writers had a lot of ideas so I'm interested to see what they come up with next!

(Tho ultimately if I had to decide between keeping the storylines we got this season and adding another moment of Dan I would definitely choose to keep Dan's presence to a minimum, it just felt like we could have had an extra episode or two to fully wrap some of these things up... I still really enjoyed the season though so I'm not complaining! It felt like the Queer and trans characters were put front and center this season which was also awesome to see, and Eric's storyline made me really happy. Also Ncuti Gatwa looked awesome in his baptism outfit!)

this season was a total disapointment for me :( it felt rushed, Otis was totally annoying, none of the new characters were interesting and we got like 5 minutes of ruby overall.

taking out O and focusing that saved time on the main cast would benefit the season so much honestly.

I liked the introduction of O but her storyline was handled really strangely. The drama between the two sex clinics was completely unneccessary, especially when both of them were doing it for free and also needed to study and go to class. These two are going to fail their A-Levels, I can feel it.

Great vid! Exactly what i was thinking, Maeve should have her own spin-off series!
I loved every moment of the Sex Ed series, but this last season felt like a worthless filler with the same outcome as season 3. Only difference is that Maeve wrote a goodbye letter and they enjoyed each other.

This felt too open ended to be the finale tbh. Otis was basically regressed to S1/2 and after the growth over S3 it just felt wrong. They needed another episode to show what they did after the events we saw at thw conclusion of EP8

Amazing Video!!! I loved Aimee and Isaac’s story this season that was definitely the standout. I am just so upset about how they handled Cal and Jackson - like they had so much chemistry in season 3 and they barely address their relationship like at all - also I agree about Ruby and O like ruby is probably one of the most interesting characters and to reduce her storyline down to a feud she had when she was like 10 ahh - Btw how would you rank the seasons? For me it would be 2,1,3,4

I was so disappointed with Jackson's story this season. The whole cancer scare, his conflict with his mums, finding out about his mum's affair, meeting his birth father and being rejected by him - all of this just felt like unnecessary trauma that led to no real growth in his character. It felt like they didn't know what to do with his character so they decided to just torture him...
I also loved his chemistry with Cal and was hoping their relationship would be explored this season. In the first episode, Jackson comes from fingering and questions whether he might be more queer than he thought - LITERALLY teasing us with the possibility, only to drop this plotline with no explanation. It's never mentioned again and even when Jackson finds Cal, their reunion feels weirdly empty. WTF was that??

I think they were trying to bring the whole show to the next level. Sex Education is known to have a certain style of storytelling wherein they would introduce multiple synopsis from different characters, all being interconnected with the main characters, and then resolving it at the end of the season, and it teaches multiple values and lessons to the consumer. With them introducing new characters to this season adds more synopsis, however it weren’t as effective as it intended to be since there was an overload of characters being shown at the same time, and i think that’s why it’s all over the place. Although it wasn’t a problem for me, and I wasn’t detached with the plot at all. It was overall a roller coaster ride of emotions, and i was glad that the ending was more realistic rather than a typical happy ending, and I actually see it as a cliffhanger, as it creates conversations of so many what ifs in the future, and it is more relatable, tbh. It teaches the valuable lesson of what truly life is. That all things aren’t meant to be, but it’s all part of growing up.
They dived into a much more mature setting, tackling more serious social issues that we normally don’t really talk about, while maintaining that light heartedness that this show was known for.

17:09 regarding Cal’s disappearance it wasn’t random at all: I believe it stems from despair, which was stated by the character multiples times prior due to gender dysphoria and the lack of access to the proper care they needed. Which, as a trans person represented very well what trans people go through sometimes when we are suffering immensely and nobody around seems to understand or even care.

I went into SE4 without knowing it was the final season. It did not feel like one while watching. It only hit me the second I saw the “Created by” cinematic credits. I was floored. And deeply disappointed. The season alone was too much, too messy, too empty all at once. But adding the fact that it was THE finale makes it all the worse. What a disappointing and, frankly, horrible way to end such a show. :/ Deeply frustrated and upset with how many questions are left unanswered, and how many characters are left in the dust! I’m angry, truly. It’s upsetting ☹️

Very relatable what you're saying. The annoying oatcake, the little bunny and the Meave-related spin-off just to name a few. Let's talk through three characters: Adam, Aisha, and Cal.
-- I disagree about Adam. I think you underestimate him. He had a lot of growth in putting himself out there and finding self-esteem, for instance by keeping his head up in the face of setbacks like the tractor accident. (Which actually led to him receiving valuable, positive feedback, that was a nice twist.) IMO he is coded as an intelligent enough person but with some kind of learning disability (or a subclinical version of it).
-- I couldn't agree more about Aisha. To be honest, I didn't get why she sat through the fire alarm until she explained it and then I felt so caught. XD Sorry, Aisha!
-- I appreciate your honesty about not remembering Cal. Of course I could never forget about them because I'm trans too. ^^ I disagree with a few things you said about them. What makes you think they're being coded as having body dysmorphia? It's possible for people to have both body dysmorphia and body-related gender dysphoria but it makes much more sense to me that they mainly (or exclusively) deal with the latter. Because, in earlier episodes, you see them really feeling better about themselves because of wearing their binder, just for instance. Body dysmorphia doesn't get better with changes you perform on your body.
I was a bit suprised about how dark the writers let their story go, but it made total sense to me at the same time. I'm not sure if you've learned enough about trans issues yet to see the full picture. I blame the fact that the discussion is very bubbled and there is a lot of misinformation out there, including here in the comments (emilija got it all wrong). Transitioning means some mental work, for sure. But tremendously bigger pain is in not knowing if you're going to be able to transition in the way you want and need to. And that is the last straw that breaks the camel's back for Cal, IMO. Because there is a clear answer to your question why somebody would want to "throw everything away" as you put it: The lack of positive prospects, or the sense of inevitability and endlessness of everything staying as bad as it is (not to speak of getting worse...). Before the fundraising happened, it was made clear that Cal wouldn't be able to get top surgery for many years.
But I feel like I'm being annoying. I'm such an Otis, I see myself in him a lot and had some good laughs about it - and cringes of course. ^^
Your video was fun. I've looked forward to watching it since you put it online - but I hadn't finished watching the series until now. : )

I do wish we got to see more insight into Cals story-it might’ve made more sense to me and it wouldn’t leave things for inference. Overall everyone just needed more time for their stories.

What was not adressed with Cal in more depth is that taking hormones messes your, well, hormone levels. It was said that she was more "like a teenage boy" with being aroused all the time, but in reality mixing girls hormones with boys hormones actually destroys all of your bodys health - therefore she had also worsening of her psychological health as well as her physical health. It is an important and charged topic to be explored. I am sure they were walking a tight rope there with this topic and I think they handled it all in all well, but otis should have sent her to a endocrinologist just like he sent Jackson to an oncologist when she told him she is having problems with being on T (testosterone).

    • @lyricbot8513
      @lyricbot8513 Před 11 měsíci +4

It's called Hormone Replacement Therapy, not Hormone Mixing Therapy... They are taking hormones and getting top surgery because they are a trans person and this is gender affirming care for them. Cal would not have been able to obtain Testosterone in the UK without talking to an endocrinologist first, and explicitly states that they "went private"- in this case, to a private endocrinologist- in the show itself. Cal's mental health struggles were also explicitly stated to be because they were struggling with the excessively long waitinglist for the Gender Identity Clinic so I'm not sure why you're pretending that the show said anything different.
