      And it's funny that they say it sounds like a national anthem because the original song is almost considered the Canadian alternate national anthem.

      Hey, I CAME to THIS page BECAUSE of Stan Rogers ... I'm not exactly a huge metal fan, but this was indeed awesome. And as someone else mentioned, I kept thinking the two guys HAD to be messing with us. Seriously, I'm a bloody Yank and I've been singing along to Northwest Passage for over twenty years ! So I was a little worried I'd be a bit put off with what ULA might have done with it, but AWESOME !! So, another metal band that joins my extremely eclectic playlist !

    So I don't THINK I had heard the original before hearing UTAs version, but man, I know exactly what you meant by saying it had a Canadian thumbprint. I haven't been home in over a decade and I kinda teared up listening to this for the first time. It made me so homesick, and I couldn't understand why until I looked up the background of the song. Very unexpected from UTA but so appriciated

    I absolutely loved this. The opening was amazing, her voice sounded absolutely incredible with the acapella. But when the pace picked up, I couldn't stop myself from rocking out to this. Fucking awesome🔥🤘🏾. Can't wait for the EP.
    I think the video might be symbolic of how the band has changed over the years with some part of it having to die so the group can evolve with the passage of time.
    That's my take on it anyway.

They sent a bunch a free stickers and stuff with it that Britney had written notes on the back of saying thank you for supporting the band. Then once I had it sewn on I sent a pic to their email and she responded and we actually went back and forth a couple times. Shes awesome.

    I really enjoyed this song and the video too, but I was hoping to see a sailboat at the end with them on it! I like that they explored the alternate realities of themselves of the choices they make vs the ones they do not. Fits along well with the song, as few people will actually sail the northwest passage.

    • @paintedjaguar
      @paintedjaguar Před 3 lety

      Yeah very few, since nobody ever actually found a northwest passage. That's why so many of them died.

    • @heathbarry6015
      @heathbarry6015 Před 3 lety

      @@paintedjaguar the sailors of the song didn't find it. It is there, it was just impassible up until about a decade or 2 ago. Even a cruise ship went through in 2016 and continues to charter voyages. The northeast passage seems passible now too, but hasn't had as much traffic, seems still really risky. Weather has been warming in the north for the past few decades leading to more open seas. You can find some documentaries on people doing the passage.

    • @paintedjaguar
      @paintedjaguar Před 3 lety +1

      @@heathbarry6015 Yeah. Unlike the continent of Antarctica, the Arctic is mostly ice. So with a warming climate and modern tech, it's passable now, but back in the day the route didn't really exist for practical purposes. The theory was correct, the explorers just got there too early. You might even say that they were living in a different reality, but I don't know if whoever made the music video had any of that in mind. Anyway, the deeper meaning of the song remains and always makes me moist around the eyes.

      It's a multiverse video, multiple realities colliding. The first Brittany with the dragon ring isn't having a good time w/ her band mates. We go past realities where they aren't a band, or some of them are dead, until we come to one where the band is in a good place.
      At the end original Brittany kills that Brittany to steal her life.

    And how am I so different
    Than the first man through this land
    Like them I lived a settled life
    I threw it all away
