I see it as a show that gives ideas, but still leaves enough open for interpretation. My interpretation after watching it a second time is that it's about growing up and getting on in life from childhood, but still keeping those fond childhood memories. It may be dark and gritty, but it still has a unique beauty to it. It's genius.
I have it on DVD :3. A store near my house was selling anime for a very low price because they were going out of business. I got this and Serial Experiments Lain. I'm so happy to have these two. They are both classics :3

I remember being a preteen when this would come on the Funimation channel late at night. As an insomniac who loved anime, I’d stay up with the TV on and eventually Boogiepop Phantom came on. The opening was so relaxing, I was in love. I ended up learning why the show came on so late-it was definitely NOT for 11 year olds. Well, I’m 24 now and still come back to listen to this song, and I own the Boogiepop light novels and watched the 2019 anime as it aired, so it didn’t traumatize me too badly.

What happened to the soulfulness of japanese music? Dont get me wrong the cutesy bubblegum-pop stuff is fun in its own way but sometimes you want a song thats richer, with a velvety-chocolate sort of bass like this. Seems like this style didnt make it past the very early 2000s....sad bc bass is underappreciated i feel, when very often its what makes a song nice

If anyone is confused by this anime, read the light novels! It doesn't do as well on it's own because it's a direct sequel to the first novel. (I'd say treat it like another light novel, just animated instead)
Its actually a non related and non-canonical anthology series. I mean the ending of the first book instigates the events of the anime, but the stories here are self-contained enough to be their own thing.

I'm really late but you can't expect that people have the aesthetics of the 2008 like Samurai Champloo so they have to model the characters more modern like but I think they did amazing and was well recognized

By comparison, the old anime is all original content, not a book adaptation, and captures the feeling of reading a boogiepop novel much better.
This used to come on really late or should say very early in the morning on the anime channel but I never watched it. I do however remember how cool the song was. Even now good anime is getting more hard to find.

It was confusing as hell. I heard you would have to read the novels and manga to get further understanding what the heck is going in this anime series. I also just found out there was a live-action adaptation too.
From my understanding of it the unnatural all be gain with a flash of light and after that flash of light a girl was brought back from the dead with unnatural powers her mother was the one you see in the garden talking about beauty and the girl was the reason some of the beings started to exist like the 1rst angel of death (the woman in Boogiepops cloths) and the girl not realizing what she was doing cause she was being fed other peoples memories forgot who she was (the memories being the butterflies) once she was gone everything would go back to normal but every thing in the anime is supost to be cause she was allowed to exist and have unnatural powers I hope this help if you have any ferther questions please ask abd I will try to answer them
extraleague01 you don't really have to read them but you do have to watch them very closely in order and connect the dots but first you have to find the dot so it is still recommended you read the manga and light novel

I love Boogiepop Phantom so much even though I only watched 1 episode (planning to watch the whole series later) It was a miracle when I got this, The Otaku USA almost got sold out and yes, there was a free CD :D
It's an awesome anime, calming too. . .
PM for more, and yes hell girl does start out a bit repetitive, but the trick is to focus on the one's doing the cursing (But it changes pace near the middle)

I just gotdone watching this the other day. Did I get any of it? Did I hell. Did I like this song? YES
It was confusing as hell. I heard you would have to read the novels and manga to get further understanding what the heck is going in this anime series. I also just found out there was a live-action adaptation too.
From my understanding of it the unnatural all be gain with a flash of light and after that flash of light a girl was brought back from the dead with unnatural powers her mother was the one you see in the garden talking about beauty and the girl was the reason some of the beings started to exist like the 1rst angel of death (the woman in Boogiepops cloths) and the girl not realizing what she was doing cause she was being fed other peoples memories forgot who she was (the memories being the butterflies) once she was gone everything would go back to normal but every thing in the anime is supost to be cause she was allowed to exist and have unnatural powers I hope this help if you have any ferther questions please ask abd I will try to answer them
extraleague01 you don't really have to read them but you do have to watch them very closely in order and connect the dots but first you have to find the dot so it is still recommended you read the manga and light novel
+Mata-Metal Desu BP is a secuel from the "Boogiepop doesn't smile" book [adapted as a Live Action movie], so to fully understand it, you should watch the movie or read the light novel [it's in english too.]
