The watercolor part is easy. That is the actual gesture. The rest is not gesture. It is adding detail and renduring to get a more finished study.

I will most definitively try gesture drawing using watercolours next time! Such a good point that you can focus more on shapes than lines. I have been using brush pens to get bolder strokes instead of wispy lines but full on watercolours will probably be a game changer!! Thanks!!

This is great, I often avoid this exercise while practicing because I'm so detailed oriented. But then I get stressed out so I'm going to try sending myself small timers like you suggested! Thanks Jess 💕

Can you please do another one of these video in a tutorial format. I felt that this video was underrated in terms of how you used paint brush and painting strokes so well. And you really nailed using the brushes as of you were using charcoal! Great video! It's on repeat for me.

Thank you so much for this video! I took your advice and tried ”sketching” figures with watercolour instead of a pencil, and wow, you weren’t kidding! It improved the result so much. The proportions turned out more realistic, and as you said, it was easier to correct mistakes along the way because the colour was more ”malleable” than pencil lines.

this is great, I definitely need to do some timed exercises! I know you went to FIT, I did as well. curious if you ever had professor Suikang Zhao, I had him for life drawing and he made us do literally 1 min poses all the time for the entire first half of the semester! but then when we eventually got more time I left with some of the best drawings I've done.

Maybe you can click their pictures instead of making them stand or asking them to stay still with a certain pose and it will be a bonus if you are a good artist and then post it on your socials and tag them👍😂
im having horrible flashbacks to life drawing class and 10 second gesture drawings lol

Do you have any advice for if you feel unmotivated to draw. I watch a art video and I get really inspired and I’m like “tomorrow I’m gonna draw!” But the next day I get lazy and bored and I end up watching tv. And when I force myself to draw I get bored and I’m not proud of it at the end. I’m only 13 and many artist say it’s common at my age. But ever since I got rejected from talented art in 3rd grade I havent found art fun anymore. Being rejected just says, “sorry your creativity is amazing but we are looking for something more boring with black and white pencil, even though your a child we want you to be perfect.” I found so much fun in art before I got rejected now I just feel uninspired and it has been YEARS. I’m at college level art now and extremely talented for my age, but I just want my creativity and fun from before I got rejected.
