Sandi- as a Vet Tech let me come to your defense. If anyone wants to understand why you must shear the sheep here it is. As the wool grows it gains weight, as it gets too heavy than your heath problems start. Lice, mites and maggots can start living on the skin and killing your sheep. Once the wool is too heavy eating and drinking becomes too hard than your sheep goes down infected and starving when you could have just sheared them.
Sandi, please do not let them get to you. You haven’t done anything that isn’t good for their health.

    • @MarshmallowCrate
      @MarshmallowCrate Před 4 lety +57

Here is common sense! Another point is that people forget these are domestic wool sheep. you must shear them for their own good. They were bred to be sheared, and when it isn't done you get terrible problems like the Vet Tech above has said. This is very important to remember, and people who don't farm don't realize this.

That's too bad. After attending a shearing school I had never considered his shearing style "wrong", I was only curious where he had learned to shear like that. Shearing sheep is not only necessary, but an amazing art form where all shearers deserve respect for their hard work. It's upsetting because I love seeing these videos (I've watched all of them) and it shows how an industry works and what happens behind the scenes. So sorry to hear that, hopefully things get more positive.

I love seeing sheep being sheared. I'm a dog groomer, so it's always interesting to me to see that difference in handling and how the animals respond. And the difference in equipment, as well as the similarities. One thing she's commented on in the past is he uses both hands to shear, and I, a lefty in a righty world, never noticed it, but yeah, a LOT of my grooming peers don't swap hands (I do). I said on the last shearing video, and I'll say it again: I WISH my dog clients were as chill as the sheep!
I hate that Sandi gets so much hate for these, and people have to talk bad about things they don't understand (or pretend to understand). Especially because she's so open about everything!

Sandi, a few years ago I had a friend who was always throwing hate at me, & I got so tired of it. I was invited to a gathering that I knew she would be at...was trying to gear up for more of her
Digs...my husband took me by the shoulders before I left, and said “can I give you some advice?” I said “sure” as I was on shaky ground....he gave me a smirky grin and said
“Lead with your left” I immediately started to laugh as he knew I never would try to hit someone...but it just took the pressure off and felt good to laugh about the stupidity of it all. So anyway Sandi...
From another soft hearted woman to another....”Lead with your left” just thinking about it will make you feel more in control, and probably give you a good laugh!

I’ve written previously that farm/ranch animals are NOT pets, and should not be treated like pets. That does NOT mean that they should be mistreated. Sandi does a great job at animal husbandry. However, when she treats baby lambs like pets, that may attract certain viewers, but is unrealistic: these animals are destined to become meat, not cute pets.
Again, Sandi is an excellent sheep farmer, and her success is manifest.

Oh take heart you are doing so good and I learn so much from watching your channel! 😍🌈 I have a small Croft and lamb outdoors in the north of Scotland. It’s amazing that so much of the advice is the same, leave well alone as much as you can unless your gut tells you something is up, watch nutrition carefully in the last few weeks and get in early if a ewe is wobbly of staying away from the feed. Something I have learned this year is to use my sheepdog to help bond up new mums and lambs. My sheepdog is young and mad and not well trained, my fault, but for the new mums who are not certain they love their lambs if I take my dog to them on a lead they suddenly love those lambs! I also learned last year that fostering a lamb is difficult for our breed but that once the milk of that ewe has come through the lamb then it smells right and so I turned the ewe 4 times a day to let the foster lamb feed on her teat and once that milk was through she took it 😁 xx

I was outraged when I heard your voice break as you tried to defend Charlie and sheering. I was heartbroken when i saw what the poisonous comments of people have done to you and (selfishly) to those of us who love your channel. But you do what you have to do because your life - your family, your home, your business - has to be more important that what you share with us who are your fans. I am an animal lover, who has cared for many animals and loved them all. Who is very connected to God, to nature and to the outdoors. Who has lost all interest in PETA because of the way PETA followers abuse farmers and ranchers who do things they don't like (like raise animals for meat or sheer sheep for wool). I come from farmers who homesteaded in Nebraska and grew crops and farmed. One was a dairy farmer. Another never sold a horse, donkey or mule once it was in his possession, he just couldn't do it. I believe all of them would support me in sending you love and hugs and any kind of encouragement you need. You do you and know that your fans are thrilled to support you. Hang the rest of them.

  • @grandmachickenscluckingoodsoap

This is the biggest problem with everyone being so out of touch with where their food and wool/alpaca/etc fibers come from! It is absolutely essential to shear a wool sheep for their health. It’s akin to getting a haircut and if there’s a little nick it’s just like getting a little cut from a razor when shaving whatever a person shaves! It doesn’t hurt! You are to be commended for taking such good care of your animals! You work long hard hours to make sure the sheep are well cared for and want for nothing!

I love the shearing videos, but darlin', if you're sick of the comments, you do what it takes to guard your heart and mind from the bullies. I'm so sorry for the way people are. I'm a mental health counselor, and I can assure you, the bullies have a mental issue, there is no other way of looking at it. On a "guard your heart" note ... perhaps you can let someone else handle the "comments" and you don't even go there. You video, edit, publish, but let someone else field the comments. I'm not above just deleting comments I don't like, and not even responding, but that's me. Huge hugs from a fan from Ohio.

We are in an age where everyone has to tell you the “right way” to do anything and everything and if you don’t do it exactly as they think you should they want to degrade you. These are ignorant people and not worth your emotions. I’m 66 years old and I’m so fed up with people I can barely stand it. So rude. I’m politically incorrect and proud of it. Dearest Sandi - I’m so glad you’re brave and show what it’s really like to sheep. There’s soooo many different ways to raise anything and the opinions abound! I just got a hive of bees and goodness! The information out there is endless!! I’m so sad people are being negative about anything concerning raising animals. Sheep have been known to die because of not being sheered, if they get wet they can’t move and they starve and die of thirst. They’ll die of the heat, etc and it’s truly cruel NOT to sheer them. God bless your work! I love what you’re sharing and I’m learning over here as you go along! Loving all the lambs! The lamb races are my favorite ♥️

It’s the same with sheep NO one is perfect. And as for the sheer of the sheep you grow your hair and never cut it then see if your comfortable. She dose it for the health and well being of the sheep. Hi Sandi
Please don't let NEGATIVE COMMENTS upset you!
Don't show them it got to you! I do love your honesty but those type of people thrive on upsetting others!
They will only continue to be negative to make you upset!!
BLOCK those negative people from seeing your videos ans sending comments.
Your videos are very informative especially for those of us who don't know " how to farm sheep. "
I have farmed everything but sheep, goats and cows. I think ALL your videos are informative, educational and fun!! You take the time to educate us all about planning, the cost to building a barn, equipment with stock and feed. You also let us all know if something went wrong you investigate the issue. If you don't know you consult your vet "Rex" to find out what possibly happened.
I love the lambs frolicking around as they are so funny!! You even take the time to splint a lambs legs to help them heal, you give sheep medication to when you see that are not doing well and you consult your vet.
You have a nutritionist to create your sheep's food for when they are pregnant, change it after they give birth and then when the lambs are weaned again you switch them to a maintenance ration!
I feel blessed to know you are providing a great product for those who eat lamb.
Keep up the great work and please continue with your awesome videos!
I look forward in watching them daily.
Please check your email for a message from me.
    Blessings
