My first Fire Emblem game was Three Houses so I don't really know if Three Houses was the standard or the outlier. That game had such a rich story with characters that felt alive and real.
Someone told me they were made by two different teams so that their release dates wouldn't come too far apart. That would be great if more of the Three Houses team comes back!
I heard Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn and Awakening are really good. Didn't played them so I can't say. I do plan starting Path of Radiance or Awakening really soon, Radiant Dawn is the sequel to Path of Radiance FYI.
Three houses is a new standard but there were still great stories in the series. The Tellius games (Path of Radiance and Radiant dawn), Echoes and Genealogy of the holy war are on a similar level of story quality. Most of the simpler stories like the GBA games, Awakening and others were not nearly on the level of weird writing engage had either with the great characters the series always tends to have still shining thought.
It’s my opinion that three houses was exceptionally good. The characters were memorable and so was the plot. I haven’t played this yet but it sounds like it’s rather forgettable
I get what you're saying. I played my first FE game, Three houses, directly after Engage was announced. I finished my first play through less than a month ago. I played Engage for a few days and immediately went back to a new Three houses route. I cried hearing the monastery theme .02 seconds after starting. My first play through was 40 hours. I'm already 30 hours into this one. Good storytelling is essential to keeping your playerbase engaged (pun not intended).
I like the gameplay as much as I like the gameplay of Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn or Conquest. But, as you said, the story is just not good. It feels like it was written by those that really enjoyed avatar worship in Fates and were like "I want all of that, but without the occasional guy in the army that doesn't kiss my boots whenever I desire
@@gnosis_gaming I mean, the obvious answer for many would be Genealogy of the holy war, but I haven't felt the story myself in it's entirety since I never got past chapter 3. My personal favorite story is fire emblem sacred stones. How Lyon's story played out I found very moving and, while it's holes showed themselves on repeated playthroughs, I find the story overall very compelling. Also, 11 year-old me was crying when the player party realized there was no saving Lyon and he had to go.
I did enjoyed this game. I finally beat it last night. Now I'm waiting for the Fell Xenologe story in wave 4. I still liked Three Houses/Three Hopes better though.;)
I agree with you I think the biggest issue with engage are as you said in the video the lack of depth with the characters and the support. I don’t think the story overall is bad even though there are plot holes and inconsistent with the timeline of engage and maps that doesn’t make any sense but I guess because of the fan service and the hype I’m willing to turn a blind eye just a little bit. To me besides gameplay what makes fire emblem are the characters and the world they live in and a bonds that the characters make and I didn’t really get the feeling of depth when playing this game majority of the time and that make me sad. P.s I don’t know why they changed this in battle when you have character next to each other they get there bond level ups though out fights like in the modern fire emblem game but some reason the bond level up only happens in player phase which make getting supports longer then it has to be.

I like all of them grow on me because they are interesting and had something going on about them. For the other countries alear I like them, I know there people out there that say they corrin 2.0 I see why they say that but I don’t think that really true and for there retainers they ok.For the firene people they are ok, the only character I really like is etie I find her a pretty cool . For the Eluisa people they alright they my second favorite group of people. For the solm people I just indifferent that’s because I didn’t really look into them and for veyle and mauvier I like both of them. Oh with the dlc characters i got nothing to say about them because I didn’t play the dlc or watch a play through or watch there supports.
FE engage is by far my least favorite FE game. There are some great upgrades from 3 houses. And I love the return of the weapon triangle. But the story and characters are boring as hell.
The part about the Emblem system I don't like is that it feels like a Gacha game, so I'm with you there. I just think the animations are great, and it feels really satisfying to watch everything play out. @@princestarfy4098
@@gnosis_gaming I had no problem with that part, it was really easy to get every ring and you get a crap ton of gems that you can upgrade the ones you want to platinum. Tho they are just worse then the story and dlc emblems. My problem was that they were stereotypical versions of their character from their games, their chapters not only remind you that you could be playing a better game, some straight up spoil their stories. Roy straight up tells you the ending of his game. The skill system is kinda boring and isn’t really involved. Just give everyone geosphere and then you can grind for + stats. There is no fun ones like in Awakening and Fates. And then the basically Mega forms themselves either break maps but kinda suck with no inbetween. You can break maps worse in 3 houses but you had to set it up,you had to work for it. Celica just breaks the game by existing…

I started with Path of Radiance in 2007 as a little kid and loved it to death. I've played every western release from blazing sword to Engage. Out of all of them engage was the worst and it wasn't even close. Fates at least tried with its story. Awakening and sacred stones might be simple at times but they were effective. Path of Radiance is the best game in the series, there's no but there. That game is goated and if you're a fan of this series you gotta try it. (Cough use an emulator the online prices are a crime) shadows of Valentia and Three Houses were amazing storys with great characters. Engage just fell flat in every regard. Biggest disappointment in this series.

Also hopefully execute the dlc like 3H did over Engage... Playing the fell xenologue multiple times for different runs is a chore. On character designs, I do like when characters are saturated but most characters who are supposed to be in war with a fell dragon and corrupted and war with nation are being portrayed as cheerful or goofy and not even having at least some depth to the current situation over "ohh is there yam here" or "do you host balls here" or talk about fishing just feels out of place with the main plot. I'm still having fun with engage and skip the story or cutscenes just for the gameplay right now but only wish the character story development and main story plot could of been done well or wish next title they'll take some good aspects from both and make something way more awesome and truly engaging both in battle and off.
I used to think that as long as a game has excellent gameplay, the story didn't matter too much. This game alone changed my perspective. The story, to me, was SO DULL, that I have yet to finish it. I'll probably play through 3H a couple more times before I do. 3H is just more fun.
I think Engage is a good game, but 3H is one of my favorite games ever, and unfortunately Engage didn’t impress me nearly as much. Tbh, Engage is ranked pretty low for me when it comes to all the FE games I’ve played. It’s still a good game and a majority of maps and a handful of characters are great, but there are some glaring missteps too. Hopefully Intelligent Systems stops working with the company that wrote Fates & Engage’s story, they’re doing themselves no favors (and tbh, Fates has a better story than Engage does imo). If you enjoyed 3H a lot, I highly suggest playing Genealogy of the Holy War & Thracia 776. Amazing, AMAZING games., and the sprite work holds up wonderfully from the 1990’s.
The dialogue of engage makes me want to ☠️☠️☠️. The gameplay doesnt nattrr to me if the story and characters are trash. I EXPECT IS to have good fire emblem gameplay so praising a game for its gameplay is insignificant.
Engage should have actually came out before when FE had is 30th anniversary, hence why the story felt fan servicesy with all the Emblem Rings. I think Engage is good game but no where near as good as some of the other games in the FE universe.
out of all FE i have played engage has the worst plot and character writing for context i have played all gba emblems the tellius games those being ikes games and all the 3ds games and of course three houses that having become my favorite game in the series so if you loved three houses but disliked engage for its story and wonder what FE game to play in my opinion i would recommended path of radiance and also shadows of valentia in terms of story and character SOV is my 2nd favorite tho the gameplay can be a bit lacking still recommended it tho
Engage is a case of gameplay not story, and it’s definitely made to be an anniversary type of game, I like it cause more fire emblem is always good, but for someone’s first fire emblem, or if three houses was someone’s first fire emblem, it will most likely not be fun for some

Ffire emblem three houses is better mainly because i feel it doesnt rely on the "emblems" from the past FE games like Engage does as a main part of its story. (PS: Three Hopes never got dlc and was rushed because of this goofy ahh game)
What I absolutely hate about Three Houses is White Clouds. It's so boring after your second playthrough. So I like that there's no branching routes in Engage. I loved Engage, however where it lacks is the ability to draw me back to it. I'm kind of itching to do another Three Houses playthrough but am dreading the thought of trudging through White Clouds again
FE:E Maddening mode is a joke compared to FE:3H Maddening. I had a FE:E Chapter 9 save of both Hard and Maddening. 31 enemies in both Hard and Maddening. Enemy Stats were the same in both Hard and Maddening. Ivy had 31 HP in Hard and 33 HP in Maddening. The Gimmick in FE:E, Maddening mode has no side battles to level up players, so by Chapter 9, you have a bunch of scrubs, and that’s what makes it more difficult. In hard mode you can level up players and Chapter 9 is easy. FE:3H Maddening, Enemies were 4 levels higher than Hard mode, and had more enemies on the map. Devs took a lazy approach to designing FE:E Maddening.
3 Houses increased enemy stats by 10-20, which is more than just a measly 4 levels. Engage has Conquest A.I. where enemies won't attack you if they can't damage you.

I guess the game only levels up your bond during player phrase because there aren't as many support conversations to unlock in Engage

Haha, the cut scenes can be cringey, but I love those fighting animations

I agree, the combat in Engage is great. My favorite character from both games is Louis from Engage and I have a soft spot for Petra from 3H
