A wise man learns from his mistakes; a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others. I'll make sure to come back to this video when it's time to make some cabinets!
I appreciate it man! Thanks for taking the time. I’m putting together a video showing how to cut the doors/drawers as we speak. Hopefully this math helps others as well.
You actually managed to make math about cabinate gaps absolutely fascinating.
Haha I hope that’s a compliment!
Super easy method. Especially how you easily explained the overlay variable. Thanks and great channel!
I really appreciate that! Thanks for taking time to respond!
I just came across your videos on cabinets and I wish I did ever since. You are so awesome with the work you do and so explicite with your explanations. thank you so much
That means a lot! I really appreciate your kind words! I’m glad my videos are helpful! Good luck with your projects!
Can't tell you enough how awesome your video is. Subscribed straight away. Cheers
I really appreciate it, Mike! More videos like n the works! Cheers, man!
Watched your MDF cabinet door video and then this one. All I can say is that your videos are amazing! It's the quality of video and instruction that got me to subscribe to you
Dude! Thank you! That means a lot! More videos in the works.
Best online tutorial!😊
Hey Marty! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!! I hope your projects go smoothly!
Thank you. For the time and effort and thought put into this video! Subscribed! Great work keep going!
I really appreciate that! Thank you for watching and taking time to say something!
This is so much help. Thank you!
Of course! Glad it was helpful! Math videos aren’t fun but sometimes they save you a lot of guesswork! I appreciate you watching and taking time to comment!
Thanks!
Great tutorial. Big help!
Thanks Jeff! Glad it was helpful! I appreciate the comment!
This was suppppperrr challenging to follow. I had a chance to watch you build the doors first and I was like yes yes I can do that. Then I excitedly came to this video and I was so confused that the deer in the headlights glaze came over my eyes and my confidence plummeted. Please for visual hands on learners like me adjust this view with an math tutorial of mock numbers. For example if my cabinet doors are currently say 12" and I want to change them to the new MDF shaker doors you created how would that breakdown based on your addition subtraction (A-B=C) formula.
Even just one example with real numbers plugged in will help. 😢😢 you know for those non wood working weekend DIY'ers. Thank you
I really appreciate your help, this was super great because I had no clue how to calculate that🙏🙏🙏🙏 thank you so much
Glad it was helpful! I wasn’t able to find it out there so I thought I’d try to share my method! Thanks for watching and taking time to respond!
Absolutely I love your way of teaching. You are calm and speak clearly! I wish you could see our cabinets
@gw7372 thank you! It’s been a fun journey! A lot of work but rewarding helping people.
@@WoodNerds it is just nice to find people who have the ability and the desire to help🙏 I appreciate your time and effort.
You had to go and ruin this great tutorial with math. 😵Just kidding! As someone whose brain rejects all but the very basics of math I appreciate this video including visuals because for real, I suck at math! Having the numbers along with the visuals to show me how it should look helps a great deal. My husband is good with math but also appreciates seeing what you're talking about instead of just a bunch of numbers. Thanks again for another great video. I just watched your cabinet doors and drawers video which was fantastic. You've got a new subscriber in NC. Cheers!
Can you make cabinet doors look flush with face frame cabinets. If so, what hinges do you use??
Hey! If I’m understanding correctly, I think what you’re looking for are inset cabinet doors! You can find inset hinges for those and they work a little differently but usually mount behind the face frame somewhere.
looking forward to the Dewalt Partnership video. I noticed all the new tools and was wondering what happened.
Thanks man! I seriously lucked out. I’m waiting for a couple more tools to come back in stock for them to send out and I’m going to do a big review video talking about my experience and the details of our relationship. Anything specific you’d like me to share about that?
when you are measuring to cut the rails, do you add 3/4 inch to the length to account for the 3/8 you will need to cut away on each side to connect it to the styles?
Hi! Great question! Yes, When planning out the cuts you’ll need to account for the dado and tenons used to join the rails and stiles.
wouldn't following this guidance cause you to have a door with potentially different width stiles? I would think it would be better to build the doors and then find the hinge with the proper overlay. But the math tips is super helpful
How do you find the width of a door if you only have 1 door? It doesn’t have two doors that meet in the middle?
Thank u so much in advance!
That’s a good question! I’d probably just decide how much overhang I want on the side opposite to the hinges. So measure the cavity (cabinet face frame), add 1/2” for the hinge overlay, then add however much you want the opposite side to overhang the cabinet opening.
That confusing as shit why don't you just make your stile and rail 1 1/2" and use 5/8" overlay hinges and were the doors and drawer share a rail you will get your 1/4" revel? Just measure all your rough openings and add 1 1/4" to width and height and you got your door and drawers widths and double doors that don't have a center stile just say the rough opening 31" add 1 1/4" (cause you using 5/8" overlay hinges 5/8+5/8 = 1 1/4") so 31" + 1 1/4"= 32 1/4" ÷2= 16 1/8" that your two doors there long as you using 1 1/2" wide rail and stile and 5 /8" over lay hinges you will have a 1/4" revel I personally don't care for the European look I rather the old way 2" wide stile and Rail 3" top rail in kitchen 1/2" overlay doors and drawer front toe kick 3"x3" base shelf at 5" but that just me and I know style of cabinets was 15yrs ago but looked good to me
Thanks!
