    linda gaye scott was 5’6” while yvonne craig was 5’4”.
    it was more likely the wardrobe dept had the same fabric onhand. back when sewing was more of a thing, you can make custom patterns tailored to specific bpdy types. it is more likely they used the same pattern and fabric for both actresses that was custom sewn for each of them. you also normally have more than one outfit made especially for the main characters of a show.
    batgirl’s outfit was a precise cut and fit that i doubt they had one jump suit layig around for someone else and just gave it to her. likely they repurposed the resources to make the outfit for her. and there were multiple reiterations of the outfit since the test pilot with batgirl that i would imagine changes were made throughout the run.

    Don't know about being the same costume, but the wardrobe departments usually had a limited number of fabrics from which to choose, especially in those early days of color TV, and the costume designers could get stuck in a rut. In Yvonne's excellent autobiography she tells about being fitted for the Batgirl suit. Apparently there are two ways to cut and stitch the bodice, one of which highlights the bust line. The Seamstress sewed it together the other way. Yvonne is wearing the suit for the producer, Wm Dozier, and the costume and casting heads. After a minute or two Dozier says, "We hired Yvonne for two reasons and I can't see them. Recut the suit."

    I literally rewatched that Riddler episode two days ago and thought: Will you look at that. It's Batgirl's catsuit. I wonder if there's any mention of it online.
    And here we are.

    I always appreciate your videos, especially when you talk about Batman. I never noticed that what they used as Batgirl’s costume appeared in the first season. It’s very interesting. Thank you for pointing that out Rick, I hope you’re doing well and are having a great day. Have a great weekend and please take care!

    well now we need a version of babs that gets the bulk of her costume off of one of riddler's villains... like she's tied up in their closet, escapes, takes a souvenir..

    How many times on the show did they have Batgirl bound and struggling to free herself from her restraints, whether it be chained to a wall, tied up or even pitted against aggressive plant vines?

    You'd have to do a sequin pattern recognition CSI thing to make sure the two costumes are the same fabric.

  • @richpalmer64
    @richpalmer64 Před 14 dny +1

    It's not the same costume. They made them for all three catwomen. Eartha Kitt was like 5'2", Julie Newmar was almost 6'. Linda Gay Scott was a different height than YC, different body type.

  • @PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm

    Batgirl was introduced as an eventual replacement for Robin. Had there been a 4th season she would have become a regular cast member and Burt Ward would have been written out

    Nooo way! I actually had to stop the video as soon as you mentioned that Riddler episode. The pieces finally clicked in place! I was born in 1962 and watched the show (along with Star Trek) as a little kid. I never saw the evidence in front of my eyes... ALL THESE DECADES. I guess for some of those, the two young ladies being attractive kind of was a distraction.🙄 THANK YOU😊 for the video👍

    No one blames Batgirl for the end of the show. There are real reasons the show ended including ratings decline but even though ABC cancelled it, NBC was ready to take it on and would have but the Batman sets were destroyed before NBC could take over so rather than invest thousands of dollars rebuilding them NBC just dropped the whole thing. It was NOT because of Batgirl.

    She could of gotten it from the police evidence locker. Her father after all is the commissioner.
    She could of even got other items from the evidence locker.
    Maybe they were set to be destroyed or auctioned off and that's how she got them, or she just took them.

    Does this mean that one of the factors leading into Yvonne Craig being cast for the role of Batgirl was whether or not she fit into the costume they already had on hand? Was she made aware of that requirement?

  • @cosmosgato

    That they were nearly the same size means the studios had an ideal body type.

  • @JoeOvercoat
    @JoeOvercoat Před 14 dny +2

    I am not convinced. Going by these clips, side by side clips especially, they are two different outfits. They could be the same outfit, with some explanations for re-cutting and/or change in lighting and/or different sets, But, on the face of it, these are two different outfits. Very similar though.

    • @blairhoughton7918
      @blairhoughton7918 Před 13 dny

      Same pattern. Similar type of fabric. But different colors and sizes. And they probably made several copies of Batgirl's for safety, stunt doubles, etc.

    The unfortunate fact is we may never know for sure if it was indeed the same costume, or if a new one was made especially for Yvonne, given the height difference. They apparently had plenty of the material to work with, considering that Kathy Kersh (Cornelia) from the Season 2 episodes "The Impractical Joker" and "The Joker's Provokers" wore a sleeveless jumpsuit made of it. 😎👍

  • @michaelgillespie1206

    I watched the show as a kid, in reruns, so I had no idea that Batgirl was a "new" addition to the show. I love Batgirl but after rewatching the show, I can see that she did take time away from my favorite character, the Batmobile.
    I had heard that Moth, Linda Gaye Scott, got married to Burt Ward for a while. I am still wondering how much that costume cost. Was it really so expensive that they didn't want to make a new one? It does seem to me that Moth's costume is shinier and smoother, where as Batgirl's costume is darker and more speckled, in that it has a rougher look, the doesn't reflect the light as strongly.

    What about the costume worn by Cornelia (Kathy Kersh) in "Impractical Joker/Joker's Provokers" (season 2, ep. 21&22). It appears to be the same costume, but sleeveless.

    Yvonne Craig and the Julie Newmar were both in their prime before I was born...but by God, these women were "the full bakery" in their day, especially Ms Newmar...she was an absolute Goddess.
    As an aside, any Alfred Hitchcock movie you will ever see has some of the most stunning women you will ever witness, the old boy had a good eye for beautiful women!
