  • Shock tuning is critical on the Losi Super Baja Rey to get it to run better and stop traction rolling. I found that by upping the shock oil, and adding slightly stiffer springs from GPM the body control vastly improves.

    So in this video, we will go through how to tune the shocks and how to make the truck handle better. This is an absolute must for any Losi Super Baja Rey especially if you drive on high traction surfaces and keep rolling your truck.

    The reason you were getting traction roll is because there was no oil in them. Lower viscosity (higher number) oil means the body will be slower to roll keeping the CG more centered on the chassis for longer. Higher viscosity will lead to body roll as the fluid travels through the pistons faster and more of your CG will get to the outside tires faster leading to a roll over. Much of the rollover tendencies actually isnt in the shocks as shocks just absorb impacts but instead is in the tuning of the sway bar. Thicker sway bars will transfer forces and distribute it through both wheels. I must also include tha GPM parts suck, especially their springs as they will start to sag dramatically in less than a month.

    I'll need to try this for when I'm on grass. The stock tune is fun to watch because it's so plush and squishy but the traction roll !

    If anything, front shock oil should be heavier since front springs are stiffer. Also you should bleed the shocks. Fill to the top. The only air inside should be above the bladder, not below it. Loosely put the cap on, then compress the shock to push air and excess oil out. Keep it compressed and screw the top all the way. Some people like some rebound, but you have full rebound with excessive air and pressure.

      These are bladder capped

    • @tyrellcorp2118
      @tyrellcorp2118 Před 2 lety +4

      @@JrsGasolineAlley You still bleed bladder shocks. There are many how to videos. None leave the shock fully expanded when tightening the caps. None say there should be air below the bladder. The only place that should have air is above the bladder. More recent videos recommend minimal rebound compared to the past.

      Nope, its a little overdamped in stock like most rc, for jumping. For what this car is designed for you want stock damping, maybe even less, with a lil stiffer springs

    • @tyrellcorp2118
      @tyrellcorp2118 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Angry-Lynx My comment is not about which springs or oil weight you should choose. Whatever you choose, this is not the correct way to fill shocks. You need to bleed the air out. They wont compress correctly, will rebound inconsistently, and will bounce unpredictably if you leave all that air in the oil. The only air in the shocks should be the air trapped inside the bladder

  • @DrJT-ly3vr
    @DrJT-ly3vr Před rokem +3

    The main thing is adding a second shock piston in the rear behind the existing shocks, but you can probably leave the spring off. That adds so much extra dampening that the negatives of a solid axle trophy truck design are countered without losing the awesomeness of all that articulation and travel. But I'm also really interested in possibly increasing the diff oil viscosity in the rear and even more dampening in the front shocks with some thicker oil possibly as well. I've solved the problem for the super Baja. Ray but the super Rock Rey is twice the pain when it comes to rollovers and donkey kicking. And the super Rock Ray breaks when it crashes, unlike the SBR 😞... Hopefully some of the shock tuning in this video may help!

It was a huge difference without any fiddling to make it perfect, and then I had a bunch of life stuff happen, so I never got back to it... Well with stiffer springs. If you don't change the oil, your rebound will speed up considerably because of the stored potential energy in the stiffer springs. Shock, oil and springs go together
