I used to think how unfair it was that XTC was not more successful, but the truth is that the more I know about their story, the clearer it is that everything went the way it was supposed to go. Andy is usually blamed for his stage fright but when you find out that Colin turn down to play with Pink Floyd... haha. this paints them in a very good light, the guys had their own ways and their own vision of things and that is an essential part of their music. Sometimes it's a little sad but most of these stories are hilarious and they are one of my top 3 favorite bands.

Always stayed true to themselves and music fans (old & new) can hear it decades later.
      What's your other two bands?

@@BlackRoomProductions Very true! The Beatles & The Beach Boys (actually Brian Wilson), very obvious, isn't it? Although there are a lot of bands and solo artists that I like a lot too, Dylan, The Cars, Roxy Music, Jellyfish, Crowded House to name a few.

Ha you know what, I listened to Pet Sounds for the first time three weeks ago after listening to a Sunday morning "Breakfast with The Beatles" radio show. I've listened to it another two times since!

@@BlackRoomProductions Ha! Well it has its good side, when someone tells me they never saw "The Godfather" I always tell them how lucky they are to see all 3 in one sitting. Being able to keep discovering things as an adult is a great thing for me and it's also surprising how some things come at the right time.

It is a fantastic book, and this interview is a delight. Darryl comes across as not just a fan of the band, but a great interviewer, giving Neville time to expand on things, yet obviously has deep knowledge of the band and their material

Darryl's a great interviewer (especially going toe-to-toe with Andy). Of all the Convention interviews, this one's my favorite. There's a bit more to it when they discuss Bags of Fun with Buster but that's not included here.

Fascinating how Farmer mentions the 'Mummer' album. It's not ignored by me. It was a grower album for me at first ,but, I've grown to have a soft spot for it. On my Radio Bandcouver show, the XTC songs I tend to play lately are from the 'Mummer' album.

It's probably my favorite album of theirs, I love the poetic, storybook-like song topics and the lush pastoral sound

I wouldn't feel bad about being sort of a "cult favorite," or "musicians' musicians." "Popular" certainly doesn't necessarily mean "good." I think XTC did good.

They didn't give them money for years. XTC didn't earn anything from concerts. Constantly they told them: "No, you are still in depth"
I guess I would also develop a kind of stage fright.
