Wonderful interview/overview. Nothing us hard-core fans hadn't known previously, but then again, nothing better than hearing it from the brilliant minds at their sources.
Thanks for posting!
Yep, great to hear it direct and I love hearing Andy & Colin together. This interview's been buried for a very long time and I'm happy to have unearthed it!
How could a band as gifted and talented and with such a long history as XTC been so neglected by their record label? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
I just caught Andy humming the “Munsters” theme song when they brought up rundgren. Now I’ll never see Todd in the same light again😂
Great interview and I love the final two albums, but Skylarking is still my number 1. It belongs with Dark Side of the Moon and Sgt. Pepper’s, just created in a different decade but deserving more recognition than it got.
Skylarking, is the perfect introductory album to XTC, such a wonderful exhibition of music. But English Settelment, is and was actually voted by fans they're best album !
A true masterpiece 👌 ES & Skylarking are they're 2 best but my fave is Drums & Wires,
Great album.👍
Same story for Oingo Boingo, kept in debt, and enslaved by the record company. They stopped.
Black Sea and English Settlement for me. Though i love all their albums.
Go2 is my most emotional album, for what it means to me.
English Settlement is the no. 1 for me. Right mixture of art and easy pop, and I like its sound.
Black Sea is full of monster pop songs and could have been, but it's production is not great.
Skylarking is also full of brilliant compositions but I do not like what Rundgreen did to it.
I enjoyed that.
So. Here were are in 2023. Almost 24 years ago they had been together for 24 years. Does this mean 2026 will be Fifty Years of XTC, dear god indeed. ULTRA DELUXE BOX please and thank you in advance.
Oooh good call on that
I first saw them in 1978 so yeah you spend your whole life with certain bands. It's so sad that the gigs stopped.
"Sublimity" IS a word. Looked it up.
Andy is the wordsmith's wordsmith!
Seems like these guys had bad management from the very very beginning - even before they had a record contract.
Interesting comments on Ray Davies and the Kinks. Spot on.
Does anyone ever call them ecstasy? I've always called them ex tee see.
Not in this house! I see 3 letters, I say 3 letters.

Haha nice phonetic
Andy Partridge should let Colin talk more. Bit late, now.
Greatest Rock band ever...sorry beatles
You're so right ....But Beatles fans get very annoyed when you suggest it 😂 But maybe they know its true 👍The new beatles, single!! Wot a pile of💩
Nope. Not sorry😊
Objectively ... yes. They were the better Beatles.
But Beatles were first. You don't degrade Apollo because now there is more skill and experience.
why does it say Apple Venus and the interview is about Skylarking?
Depends where you are in the interview but it's from the AV1 promotional tour (they discuss the 'new' album at the end).
I heard only a brief section about Skylarking.
The dictionary song is pretty underwhelming, nay, awful.
