I think it should be said that it’s also likely that delving into too much CGI made universes would be too taxing on their budget. Not that animation is easier as a whole, but it’s easier to fit in so much going on whereas live action has its limitations. When you compare Multiverse of Madness to Doctor Strange’s What If…? Episode, personally I think the animated episode was able to more accurately portray its story and visually astound in 30 minutes than the movie did in 2 hours

The thing people gotta understand about the "to be continued" is that if they had tried to fit the whole climax fight with Spot in this movie then it would have been horribly paced as they try to rush to fit everything into this one movie. It was a long movie (for an animation) already, it absolutely needed to be split in two parts like this. And as it was, we still got incredible action scenes and emotional scenes. I know it doesn't feel "complete" on it's own but to me that's the price for an amazingly balanced and well paced movie and it's worth it.

    • @Luinta

      @jacintaschneider4145 Před rokem +57

I actually thought it really fit with the movie thematically and stylistically to do a to be continued. With the golden age of comics, people had to wait weeks after huge cliffhangers before the next issue, and the stories would last 3 sometimes more comics. I was sad that I have to wait, but with the intro of earth 42 and prowler miles so late in the movie, it really feels like there is a whole other movie starting to develop amd conclude that story before they can properly finish the spot story arc. It really feels like a comic book story layout. It works and makes sense, the only downside is the wait

While that would be good for super fans and adults, a good portion of the audience in theaters and in general and most of the revenue is made up of kids who who realistically would never sit through a 4 hour movie. It works for some movies like lotr, but it's just not practical for general audiences, especially family focused ones. Would you wanna take your spouse and 3 kids all 12 or under to a movie where they need to sit still amd be quiet for 4 hours? Or want to sit next too a bunch of restless kids when your enjoying the movie? As much as the wait sucks, it definitely is a good choice to cut the film where they did

I just realized while looking at the screenshots of Mile's mom snapping her fingers at him, you can see the sound effect take the shape and colors of the Puerto Rican Flag. As a Puerto Rican, it's fun to see how much they reference our culture. Not just with the Spanish and stuff. Even in tiny details, like the sound effect, are so much fun to discover and shows how much thought they put into making this movie overall. I need to watch the movie again and dissect every frame of it. Visually, this movie is stunning. Especially Gwen's Universe.

That reminds me that I watched the movie's Neutral Spanish dub, which was made in Mexico, and Miles' mother was voiced by a Mexican voice actress trying to imitate a Puerto Rican accent, but it sounded more like Cuban. That was really distracting, which is a shame since the rest of the dub cast made a great job... with the exception of some of the Spider-People like LEGO and Spectacular which were dubbed by influencers, they only had a few lines but they didn't make a good job, not to mention that some of the influencers Sony invited had a bad reputation among Latin American fans, like Andres Navy who voiced LEGO Spider-Man

I firmly believe so many artists have wanted to create a project THIS ambitious for a long time and it's thanks to the Spiderman IP that the higher ups felt safe enough to let a team of artists be extraordinarily experimental on all accounts. This movie was long and the pacing had me at the edge of my seat. I was worried that the movie was going to wrap up quickly and abruptly and I was so relieved when I saw it was a cliffhanger. That just meant we were going to get more of everything that's amazing about this film. Personally right now this movie is topping the first one even though it doesn't gut me a badly, I just really enjoyed not knowing where a movie was going and enjoying the ride. I want to see it again everytime we went back to Gwen's universe the emotions were so high and the visuals were on point ❤
Honestly I feel so grateful Disney didn't get Spiderman as an ip before Sony otherwise we may have never gotten this trilogy. Disney for all its worth would most likely never do something this experimental. And without Spiderman's ip it's hard to imagine we'd ever see another project like this see the light of day for simply seeming "too risky". But honestly I love the LOVE that is put into these films by the artists. They love Spiderman and they love animation and it shows!

This is actually the best movie I've ever seen, and I don't say that lightly. The first movie was near-perfection, and lightning seems to have struck twice, and it's even stronger this time! Everything is so well done, nothing feels wasted, it expands on all the characters I loved in the first one and gives the new ones their fair share of depth too, and every element has layers of things to dig into. It just feels good too! I'm also happy to know that I'm not the only one who had trouble holding back tears at the emotional parts, and that comes from someone who can count the number of times I've cried as an adult on one hand. The only thing I dislike isn't the movie, but rather how groups external to it are trying to claim it as their own and assert political motivations far beyond anything present in the film. Just let it be an excellent movie for everyone. We all can relate because many of the struggles are universals that everyone can paint their own personal flavour onto. It's clear that the success of these films is no accident. It's genuine passion, skill, and labour of love. We can only hope the astronomically high bar that has been set is attainable for the films that are to come. Everyone should go see this movie.

I have this theory that Sony originally planned to have this as one movie but when they started fleshing everything out and realized the story was too long, they decided to split this up into two parts. That could explain why this movie is two and a half hours long and mostly set up. This could explain why the cliffhanger is so hard. And this could explain why this movie took over 6 years to come out and the third installment is coming next year because they were working on this whole story at the same and they are in the post production phase and polishing up the third installment as we speak.

Also, when it comes to a lot of topics like diversity and other complex topics, Spiderverse is so good at "show don't tell." The levels of nuance and ways in which all of the characters are relatable in some way is so captivating. And I love that some things are not explicitly confirmed, because when it comes down to representation, why do we have to keep having this dull and boring conversation about having to justify characters just existing in a more modern sense? Many pieces of media act like going and talking about every little detail makes it easier on all sorts of minorities. In some ways it does, but more often than not I see the divide between people get bigger, because not only is a lot of the stuff presented in a off putting manner that causes an often abrupt break from the narrative of the story, but these characters become so tokenized by being such a one dimensional throw away character, who is just uninteresting at best. Seriously, we get griped at about having something be our whole personality and then this is the representation we get and then sit back and wonder why does this kind of rhetoric keep being said

unless they're setting up Miles to fail (since theres no logical way to get him to succeed without a cowardly writing move) Beyond and Across will have bad writing

I think the animation itself makes the 'multiverse' format work so much better than live action, the characters and worlds look so different that it really feels like they are different universes, while in live action to me it just feels like the same universe with different actors it just doesn't fit. Here though it is so well utilized and each universe is exciting to see.

Let's not forget that a 14-year-old made a Lego scene in the movie. The animation in this movie is top-notch! It's winning best animated movie at the Oscars. (wish that category didn't exist though as animation can be just as good, if no better than live action movies)

Also, a cool little Easter Egg I noticed was whenever Spiderman 2099's theme was played, it borrowed melodies from the Spiderman unlimited intro theme and I instantly caught that! 😍

Avi Arad, convinced Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. To add The spot as the main villain. Because he wasn’t the original villain. But even so the spot was an amazing villain. I loved him.

I was going through real stuff as well, I couldn't get out of bed all day Friday, I planned to see it myself on Sunday or Monday during quieter times but then I decided to see it Saturday night. I was excited and that was the only thing that sparked any interest in me in my depressed fog. I was looking forward to it for months and I saw it in the front row with the masses behind me and it was glorious. It was just what I needed, the music, the art work (the art for Vulture??? HOW DID THEY PULL THAT OFF????), the story. Like I enjoyed the first as a whole and didn't think I'd attach to any new characters but I liked Pav and Hobie a lot and I like Gwen so much more, Miles' growth and don't even get me started on Miguel. In 5 days that was one of the 2 times I left my house, I didn't even really leave my room unless it was for food, trash or laundry. But I at least that movie gave me something worth getting up for.

Listen to the first five Tracks of the OST and you can tell that the music is telling the story too, because it builds up with Gwen theme(which is awsome) and then in the next track Vulture gets a theme but gwens theme is fighting it, then you get Miguel O'Hara's theme, the next track is just these 3 themes fighting with each other and bleeding together seamlessly and that makes the movie even better because every aspect is telling the story some you are consciously aware of, others that tell the story unconsciously.

The best thing that I wanna point out is how this movie actually utilized the multiverse in the PROPER way, showing multiple different forms of spidermen and making it all make sense within the narrative
also, the multiple different universes they go to or show throughout the movie is exactly how the multiverse concept should've been done rather than how a particular movie franchise did it.
I think the spiderman IP is in good hands with Sony for the time being.
