Yes please, not to private charitable intitutions. Only about 1/3 of what you give, maybe even less, will get to the beneficiaries because they have to spend for administrative and operating expenses year round.
I am also from Canada but have been lucky in that every place I've lived in has not had severe flooding, though when I was little our house in Saskatchewan would get a wet basement in the spring but once we got a pump it was fine. Where I live now flooding is rare.

In miami after hurricane andrew destroyed homestead in 1992 and people died they increased the building code from a Cat-2 to a Cat-4.. still a Cat-5 comes in and more people will die.. but like i said ..they dont care ..is all about making money. I live in jacksonville FL and contruction code is horrible.. if a cat-2 and up comes in the city will be destroyed.

If Dorian hasn’t stalled for so long at such intensity, the damage I think would have been a lot less. But this was a perfect storm. On the way to The Bahamas it avoided land, add very warm waters, king tides on top of that, and the cherry-no steering mechanisms to push it away from The Bahamas. It was a perfect storm for catastrophic disaster. 5 confirmed dead so far. I’m glad I myself (living on east coast of Florida n was in the line of fire) did not experience that. What we were seeing were exclusively which people's homes and toys, toward the end, that area was the golf course. These people have insurance. What we didn't see was the devastation to the Bahamian homes, those areas where people have nothing. My guess is they can't afford to live in the area covered on this and other news stations.

Very risky indeed. Gorgeous place...but this kind of devastation is possible every single season. It’s really sad. The people there were so friendly when I went. I can’t even imagine their pain right now to see their homes gone...just gone! I feel guilty just having a place to go home to now.

It was literally a tornado that was hundreds of miles wide and lasted 48+ hrs, just let that sink in. A tornado goes by in a matter of minutes this thing stood stationary in the same spot for 40+ hrs with 150mph+ winds.

Things will normalize after many years... & nature, alone, will take at least a couple of decades to rehabilitate/replenish itself to a state similar to the one before the disaster took place; however, depending on the situation, that may also never happen. This reminds me of Hurricane Andrew. My father lost his house in that one, but we survive and was able to rebuild. Those affected will be no doubt rebuild in some way. May they find some comfort as they go through the process.
Insane destruction!!! I saw a few homes that look to have there roofs intact, I'm impressed. Not to say that they didn't get flooded and ruined but wow some good construction for 36 hours of 185 mph winds. I hate the loss of lives and the people the people who are having to deal with their loved ones gone. My prayers are with all who were affected by this storm

Considering that it is a flat island in the middle of the sea, it is exactly what one would expect of a Cat 5 hurricane. The small loss of life is a miracle.

No one, & no single thing, can ever fully recover from such a disaster. Things will normalize after many years... & nature, alone, will take at least a couple of decades to rehabilitate/replenish itself to a state similar to the one before the disaster took place; however, depending on the situation, that may also never happen. Therefore, absolutely no one, & no single thing, will ever be exactly the same as before.

This reminds me of Hurricane Andrew. My father lost his house in that one, but we survive and was able to rebuild. Those affected will be no doubt rebuild in some way. May they find some comfort as they go through the process.

Insane destruction!!! I saw a few homes that look to have there roofs intact, I'm impressed. Not to say that they didn't get flooded and ruined but wow some good construction for 36 hours of 185 mph winds. I hate the loss of lives and the people the people who are having to deal with their loved ones gone. My prayers are with all who were affected by this storm
We lack the will to show mother nature and this world respect...until something like this happens.....
