Thank you so much for this information! I am currently titrating to 15 MG daily for neuropathic pain and for the long haul! I've been on oxycodone for several years now and as well as it works my tolerance is just through the roof!

I go to a Methadone clinic for heroin addicts only because doctors have been ordered to stop prescribing Oxycodone for pain! well I was cut off like I'm a nobody, but since I'm in acute chronic pain every day I'm going to seek relief somewhere. so that's why I got into this clinic. but what is very strange to me is that I've not found any primary care Dr who will write a scrip for methadone (so I don't have to go to the clinic.)

Blue street there are pain management doctors out there who will write methadone for chronic pain, just keep trying and once it's on your pharmacy record and doctors see that it helps you there shouldn't be anymore problems out of pain clinics/doctors.

I’ve noticed if a Methadone patient needs short acting pain medication for anything some dentists or Drs will assume no pain medication is required. I’ve even heard a Dr. tell someone to “just drink one of your extra doses”. Or tell someone who has been stable on MMT (for 7years straight with 100% clean urine screens) that the 6 norcos they prescribed (after a surgery. 6!) That they will only prescribe it if a family member “holds onto them so they aren’t tempted to take them all @ once”. It was obvious This Dr. could have googled Methadone but decided he knew how it all worked. Also being a dentist decided that asking “when are you going to wean yourself off of this” was a relevant question. Sadly as soon as someone mentions they are a Methadone patient many “professionals” have their minds made up.

After a career ending injury to my cervical spine and 3 surgical interventions, I floated between NSAIDS and short acting opioids. I developed kidney impairment (3rd stage) and had my pain specialist switch me to 20mg bid of methadone (total of 40mg.). My kidney problems were completely resolved and my chronic radiculopathy was finally ameliorated. Twice a day dosing is effective. Paradoxical dosing sometimes may be required ie., 30/10 mg if pain is more sever in the morning hours. Methadone provides me a lot of flexibility in dosing. Some days I can dose 10mg. qid. and others I have taken the entire 40 mg. in the morning and getting relief for up to 36 hours. It’s been a Godsend for my pain syndrome and it is inexpensive. $16.00 for 120 10 mg. tabs. Thank you for your presentation.
