Me and my fiancé stopped injecting heroin 2 months before I fell pregnant with our son Cillian. I was on 80ml of methadone all through my pregnancy but my son was born with no withdrawals, he was born on Monday 1st June and came home Thursday 4th June. Wee Cillian is 9 months old and we're both 20 months clean next week❤️
    We do recover..

Should have just went to a detox facility or at least chose suboxone for MAT, good luck trying to come off methadone unless you plan on being on it forever it’s worse than coming off dope even with a taper. Everyone wants to choose the easy way out of dope withdrawals and don’t realize methadone withdrawals are the worst because the doctors don’t tell you that

@@dantoven dude she's clean, that's all that matters ffs she's not injecting heroin anymore. Its not the "easy way out". Not everyone's recovery looks the same. And its totally possible to taper off methadone with very little discomfort. I came down 5mg a week from 95mg to 25mg before I noticed any symptoms and then I thought sense that was so easy, I could cold turkey off the 25mg. That's where I went wrong. Wish I just kept tapering at a slower speed and I know I wouldve gotten completely off it with minimal discomfort. My friend was able to do it and still went in for her 4mg a day and then was able to stop completely as well without going through hell or withdrawling for months. The question is, was she able to keep her sobriety? The OP is, that's what matters. xx

I'm not suggesting that she should stop taking her methadone, which btw is a full opioid agonist which as you know, has basically the same effects as morphine or heroin.
It's basing "clean" and "sober" on whether a drug is prescribed by a doctor or not.
So if she takes her meth, she is "clean and sober", if I buy her meth off her and take it, am I clean and sober? Nop. I'm a drug abuser who will give a "dirty" sample if I'm tested. Tell me, how does that make any sense at all? It's word games and make-believe.
The "clean/dirty" label seems like shame based coercion to me, and not just me, it is considered best practice not to use it. Not blaming you for picking up the language, but you can see how it's carried over from the quasi-religious 12 step programme.

Love this and wish even more in depth docs existed. The majority of healthcare Providers in Chicago are completely uneducated, judgemental, and not even equipped medically to treat pregnant women on Methadone and/or who come in due to withdrawal. Receiving prenatal care at Stroger hospital (Cook County Health) is a blessing for pregnant moms on methadone and/or in withdrawal/seeking treatment because their providers are extremely educated on this population, forward thinking, and nonjudgmental. This topic needs a huge advocacy boost!

Yeah because you’re probably gonna be on methadone the rest of your life, its way harder to come off of than any other drug, it rots your teeth and makes your breath stink. The withdrawals are worse and way longer. Suboxone would be a better choice for MAT and even that is rough coming off of even with a taper but nothing compared to methadone. I’d recommend going to a rehab and or detox for a couple weeks instead of choosing the easy way out and instead continuing to take a literal opioid that still gets you high because you can’t handle a week of pain or even a day or 2 until you can take suboxone.

The child won't ever even have memory of being born on that medication , I have so many friends who have had babies on MAT meds and there babies are like any other babies after they come home from the hospital. And many times they don't even withdrawal. It's overall the better option and WAY safer than the mother being on illicit drugs or try to ween off while pregnant which can cause a miscarriage. It's also very dangerous to come off those meds when you aren't ready Bec of the huge risk of relapse.

Chemical dependence is a physiological experience, whereas addiction is a social, emotional, and spiritual experience (in addition to the chemical dependence). Babies start fresh into social, emotional, and spiritual lives that are unimpacted by their gestational exposure. In fact, having a parent receive treatment may give them protection against some of the risks (adverse childhood experiences) that lead to addicton. *I'm the person who said that in the video

Does methadone inhibit pregnancy or prevent fertility in any way. I understand that getting pregnant on methadone isn't the best choice but I've been on it for almost ten years and have been with my husband for 15. We had our son before I was on methadone and never got pregnant again. So I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this is a factor. I'm currently almost off the program after working really hard on my recovery on all levels. I live in one of the most prestigious communities in my city..I'm clean..healthy..happy..and spiritually grounded. But I think I want another baby and am wondering if methadone prevents that from being possible ..or if once in off if it if my body will return to normal..

Mother of my son was on 30 mlgs of methadone and no other drugs but our son was born chemically depended and went through a ten day withdrawal right after he was born. A year later his birth his mother relapsed and went back on the street and died short while after.
I didnt know what to do with my son or how to raise him. So I panicked and jumped into another relationship with a single mother of two. I was terrified that my son would not have a family but I was more afraid of him growing up and using opiodes. He would have no chance.
I could not have him see a role model in his dad. He was extremely close to me.
I could not grief properly and it pushed me to relapse from methadone only to methadone plus opiates. So I decided to leave him. His new mother wasnt an addict. I wanted him to grown up in a family without opiate user examples. Especially his dad that he adored.
So one day I told him daddy was sick and he needed to go and get better. I said I'll be back soon. And I left him.

this story nearly made me cry, im so sorry. I can relate I used to be on 40 mgs at my highest dose. Ive never had any children but with what you were saying about the methadone, you can get off the street drugs and be only on your methadone. Tell your counselor the truth, go up by ten mgs ( the most you can legally ask your counselor to bump you up by), you will still be sick obviously even on your heightened dose but its only like 3 measly days of sickness!! After that you will be fine just on your dose. But you have to take it one day at a time, go on a trip for those three days ( if you can somehow get 3 take homes) and detox from the street drugs. The first day split your dose into threes, take a third where u take up, another bit in the middle of the day, and then the rest of it at night. Distract yourself with everything you can, buy s bunch of video games, play online with ppl for 3 days straight, watever it takes, but get back to only taking your dose. Its actually pretty doable, done it many times, Im sure you know all of this and Im not trying to act like im "teaching" you something you know it all, but sometimes it really helps when someone who gets it can relate, and assure you it is NOT that hard at ALL to detox off of street drugs when on methadone, so that you are only on your dose. Take it one hour at a time, just say, okay one more hour and then after that hour is over say, I did it I bet I can do one more, and then before you know it you are through your first day, and that feeling of accomplishment will bring you SO MUCH MORE JOY than a fix ever could, and that feeling will fuel you to your second day. The third ( as Im Sure you know) will be the worst, but it will also mean you are over the hump and will be past the worst part and onto smooth sailing. Its never to late to get started....just one hour at a time....
