    "Antique Equipment"= Reliable, Repairable, Serviceable, Lower Cost (No DEF first off) and a hell of a Cool Factor! Keep on rollin' Steve! Hopes that the last moment of video isn't serious.

    • @tjroelsma
      @tjroelsma Před 21 dnem +7

      That's a lot of assumptions in one sentence there. Modern equipment can be just as reliable, repairable and serviceable as antique equipment, you only need the proper tools and mindset. Even lower cost is debatable, as the fuel consumption of antiques is way higher and DEF has become really reliable over here in Europe decades ago already.
      But if your dad had one bad experience with a modern truck decades back, in the US that seems to be enough for the next generations to endlessly rant and rave against modern trucks.
      Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate seeing Steve taking care of Orwell and keeping him running, but from an economical ánd environmental standpoint it doesn't make much sense.

      @@tjroelsmaI’ve run old and new stuff. New stuff has too many issues that shut you down, from a derate issue (dpf/def) to some goofy electric issue. My current 1991 cabbie is mechanical, gets consistent 5.2 mpg (i run heavy and o/d stuff). Not as powerful and torquee as a newer engine but it’s consistent and doesn’t require near the repair costs and is more profitable than anything I’ve run that’s newer.

  • @markgill2176
    @markgill2176 Před 21 dnem +4

    Steve, I got started watching your videos because you work really hard to have excellent camera angles and shots!! You also work really hard trucking! Most people don’t realize how much hard work is involved in securing a load in all kinds of hot, cold, wet, etc weather! When you finish you are tired, dirty, and covered in sweat. Other drivers walk into their sleepers, turn up the A/C, towel off, grab a cold drink from their fridge, and relax for a minute. Steve climbs into (40 year old) Orwell with no A/C adjusts his vent window and starts shifting gears.
    Trucking is very hard frustrating work. When you truck with new financed equipment, you have to pay the bank first before you get paid.

    Steve, when you get to the point of putting the decking on the stepdeck, I recommend putting a finish on all 6 sides of each board before installing.
    As far as the wiring and air lines go, overengineer those. Use 3/8 or 1/2 stainless brake or fuel lines for the air system and run silicone jacketed wire in rigid EMT.
