- In the most seriously unserious episode of Clergy Talk yet, Sister Ash welcomes the multi-talented Alan Ursillo, the actor behind Papa Nihil in the band Ghost’s CZcams lore videos and their record-breaking feature film “RITE HERE RITE NOW.” This is Alan's first (and perhaps last?) interview regarding his role as Nihil. Alan shares how he put his WHOLE self into the character, with total creative freedom from Ghost's mastermind, Tobias Forge. Dive into Alan's journey of balancing his Catholic faith with his role, his initial second thoughts, and his memorable fan interactions. Plus, get the inside scoop on Alan’s perspective on the future of Ghost and why he believes Tobias Forge might just be an angel. Oh, and did we mention? Alan’s not wearing any pants. Tune in for a divine mix of faith, fandom, and fun!

Papa is from San Diego?! Awesome! Just like my father and his father and his father’s father. His father.
😝
HOLY CRAP I NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE HIM OUTVIF MAKEUP WE LOVE YOU NIHIL 🖤🖤🖤
Alan busting out some Papa Nihil was the best!
Nice to see the man behind Nihil. He's such a great actor
I always wondered why he wanted to stay anonymous. I always thought he was maybe embarrassed and didn't wanna be associated with Ghost, but this really makes me appreciate him even more
24:25 That makes sense. I appreciate Ghost because I’m a big fan of Rocky Horror, Phantom Of The Paradise, Queen, Bowie…anything big, 70s, and theatrical. It’s good to know that there’s a contingent that has a similar perspective.
Honestly, the Chapters are what got me to really give Ghost a chance. Thank you, Mr. Ursillo for your stellar work selling the band to the uninitiated.
Great points.
We spent a great deal of time talking about Phantom of the Opera in my last podcast episode, with Alex Ross Perry.
@@ClergyTalkNo, no, I meant Phantom Of The Paradise, the 1974 rock opera with music by Paul Williams. I highly recommend it if you have not seen it. George Lucas definitely based Vader off the Phantom.

@obelix703
Thanks for mentioning this film; the trailer was hilarious.
This is a Brian De Palma film, I noted, in the Horror-Comedy genre (De Palma may very well be his own unique genre, though).
Just to add, RHRN had an interesting scene where, amidst the Phantom of the Opera backstage decor, Sister Imperator implores Cardi to go sing. Hmm, inspired by the Phantom line "sing!" maybe? Just something I realized. RHRN was chock full of Easter Eggs.
I appreciate Alan not just for being a wonderful Papa Nihil but for all he does to help others in real life. :)
What a treat. Me and my wife have been Ghost Fans for some time. Our first Ritual in January 2022 sent us down the Ghost rabbit hole. 😂😂 Now we live there.
The CZcams algorithm suggested your podcast, and im so glad it did.
Very amazing! Can't wait to see more.
Thank you so much, Sister 😊
love the insight into the character, Alan did a fantastic job with Papa Nihil for all these years.
This was so great. We are so lucky to have him as Papa 0.
Great interview, hadn’t given a thought to who was behind Nihil, but sounds like he fits so well with Ghost 👏🏼
Great interview! Alan did a great job changing the way the Papa Nihil character emotes over time, from first admonishing Cardi for treating the Ministry as his playground (on that tricycle) to beaming with pride at his son finally getting the lesson Nihil taught him.
Wondering who Sister Ash will land next? Maybe Ashley or Kevin? Would love to see them interviewed, too!
I do hope Tobias plans to do more frequent Chapters after the success of Rite Here Rite Now. The Fandom is hungry for more laughs from the lore, and that would be a brilliant way to keep fans amused and entertained between tours, as opposed to Ghost just going dark for a long time until new music gets released. The warped chemistry between Nihil and Cardi would be so much fun to see more frequently.
This was my first time discovering Clergy Talk and I loved it and subscribed. Sister Ash you are an awesome host and interviewer. If Mr. Ursillo is reading the comments. Thank you for giving Papa Nihil life and an after life. Your sax solo is how I introduce people to the band that are unfamiliar with Ghost.
Thank you so much! Alan is a good human. ❤
Likewise!
What a hilariously wholesome interview. I didn't think I could enjoy that ol' man more than I already do.
I love your art!!!!
He has a beautiful smile!! Love Papa Nihil 🖤
I loved the interview! I wish this video had more likes, it was so interesting to meet Alan as a person!
Thanks! If you'd kindly share this video with all your congregation, it might get more likes. Bless you.
@@ClergyTalkI have shared it thank you for this what a wonderful gentleman .
@@ClergyTalk might be a good idea to post these interviews on the GhostBC subreddit. I haven't seen any of them shared there yet!

Thank you hunni for this wonderful interview ! What a wonderful man 🖤
You're so welcome. Bless you!
So I’m wondering if the priest actually blessed the project, or gave the proverbial ‘blessing’. Because it would be amazing and hilarious if GHOST was blessed by the catholic chuch.
Also great interview keep up the good work.
@@cristoffLThank you! ❤
you're priest is based btw Alan and smart for putting it in perfect rational perspective for you some priests would just be like don't do it flea from this out of some misplaced sense of fear and i m glad you were apart of it instead of going down that route a lot of people throw away opportunities over irrational fears linked to religious beliefs and if you can be rational in your faith thats a great thing
I love him, he’s a cool dude
Awesome interview! Great work! Thank you ❤
🎉🎉🎉🎉so cool!!! He is just awesome
He has a great view on art. I've been a ghost fan since I think 2016-2017 Cirice I heard I went yep I'm in. Being a Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, KISS, Alice Cooper that 60s, 70s and 80s music I was craving. I was never into Nu Metal, Grudge. I liked Type O negative, lacuna coil, nightwish, blind guardian but as a retired haunted house actor from 98-2019, glam shock rock old school fan, Ghost was like drinking water in a desert beach. And even trying my own bands that failed.. Ghost was kinda what I wanted to do. I liked the humor, good clean singing, abba-style catchy-ness, spooky-ness.
@DamienReaper_PrinceofHalloween
Thumbs up for being a long time haunted house actor. We had one run by the Brookfield Jaycees in the suburbs outside of Chicago (USA), and they had a huge blacklight wall art creation of Iron Maiden's Eddie mascot. They are now defunct (sob), but for many years, it was the ultimate heavy metal haunted house. Small, created with large trailers, but quite popular during its time.
Heavy metal and Halloween just go together.
Hey Alan, tell Tobias to get some Ghost Halloween decorations for sale in the merch store already, huh? The Fandom would ❤️ that!!
I watched the movie and was eagerly waiting for the Credits because I was hoping to see if they credited him. I was aware he wanted to stay anonymous, so I wasnt really expecting it... I was super excited to see that Mister Ursillo had been credited and we finally knew who he was (cause i also thought it might have been a different actor) and i have to admit I immediately googled him already on the way out of the cinema and found his youtube channel where he has like only two things up and the little short film where he also played a "Papa" giving advice to their son... and i have to admit, i did share that with tumblr.
I'm sorry if the sudden attention is causing problems with his other business ventures or making him worried about his privacy... but i hope he gets more opportunities as an actor and whatever else he wants to do through this.
Great guy, seems really friendly!
Love this so much!! 🖤🤘🖤🤘🖤
How marvelous! Great to meet you both!
This was fantastic...
🖤🖤🖤
❤❤❤
YAYYYY 🖤 so happy that alan knows his lesbians love him dearly lol

I want to know the Papa Nihil phrase for his fans!
LOVE PEEPAW
please interview Sister next!
Clergy Talk interviewed both Sisters already. Liz Fenning and Maralyn Facey. Check previous videos. ❤
Or how about interviewing some of the amazing artistic fans whose artwork is featured on the official Ghost band website? There are some incredible Papa IV works of art out there.
Just an idea for cool interviews.
Shout out to all of the artists who shared their artwork: You are awesome!!
@@GhostifiedGhoulishness it’s in the works! We’re planning to ask a few Ghost fandom artists and cover musicians onto the podcast after our summer break. Thanks for your comment, and we hope you’re enjoying the gospel.
This was great! Just subscribed.
"What is papa nihil's preferred type?" At this point...alive. lol
I have great news for Nihil (and I guess actually mostly myself), re: his type... 🤣
Call me dumb, but what is that intro song? If it’s ghost I don’t recognize it🤦🏻♂️
Credits at the bottom of the episode info ❤
@@unholybriscoe Thank you!
❤❤🤘🏻
I love this! I wish i could meet him! Id be giggling and blushing like a school girl if i did though
#2 reason is he's scared of the fans 😂
Not at all. He’s just not on social media much, and prefers a certain level of privacy. He loves the fans, though. ❤
Nihil likes big naturals. Of course he does 😂
😂
So on brand for Nihil.
Papa!
