Sorry if he mentioned this and I missed it, but the 85s does -40 degrees, this is the regular 85 and it's $30 cheaper. Also the $80 must have been promo pricing or something, because this thing is $120 now. Still not a bad deal I don't think, but it is 50% more expensive now. Not to mention the bundle that includes the case adds another $30, whereas a lot of these portable jump starters have a case included.

But in well under a year it lost it's capacity, and on a full charge it will only jump small engines now. I understand though, they aren't made for everyday use. So with the price of this gone up I decided to spring for the Noco gbx75 on black Friday. It was I like $170 but man it's a tank of a jump starter. The hulkman looks great, but it's still fairly new and like other starters I worry about longevity with regular use. I have a WaganTech jump box that worked great for two years - until it stopped working. In fact, I think the battery must've blown up from being in the hot vehicle - splitting the seams of the plastic case.
Also, I'm a little skeptical , as the manufacturer could've cherry-picked the one you received. Maybe you can test it under hot conditions and get back to us with your observations. Thanx!!

I'd like one but they don't come with a case. And the price they charge for a case is outright theft. Too bad. Amazon doesn't have the 85 available now and doesn't say when they will have it. I'm not trying to run them down. It looks like a good product. I'm thinking about getting the 65 since the 85 isn't available (as of Aug 2022) and would get it in a heartbeat if the case wasn't so expensive.

The Alpha Man... LMAO~~~ The NOCO GB40 is probably the BEST portable charger as far as the included case and all aesthetics. I have used it 4 times to Jump Start a few different vehicles. I Learned awhile ago from a Motorcycle Lithium Battery that you let the lights warm up the battery for a few minutes before cranking the starter. This makes the battery easier to start. As you probably know it's the COLD weather that kills the batteries cranking power. Same thing with these chargers.. let them charge the battery you are trying to start for a few minutes first. I have started every car I tried after 3 minutes of Charging via the NOCO GB40.. If I waited 5 to 10 minutes it probably would start like a brand new battery. The NOCO kind of under performs to it's ratings as shown by many youtubers testing. Also the packaging of the NOCO could be a little better. It needs to be simpler as far as fitting everything back in the case after use. It's takes a little effort to get it all packed back up nicely. LASTLY it doesn't matter what charger you have a DEAD CHARGER is a USELESS CHARGER. Charge your charger at least once a year. BEFORE the FALL.. that's when you are most likely to need it! I would charge it every 3 months if you can manage it!!! ONE more thing.. a flashlight feature is useful if you are trying to charge your car battery and its dark out and you have to locate the 'remote' terminals because your battery is enclosed under covers or is mounted under a seat or in the trunk.

What about storing in your vehicle in the summer. Will a hot vehicle destroy the battery or electronics? Also the price points may be the same, however Is the Noco GB40 really in the same as the Alpha 8.5 as far as specs. Iphones and Kyrocera both make calls but we all know the Iphone is much higher performance that you pay for.

    • @FlyingWrenches13

Usually not. The only way it could cause a check engine light is if it collapsed bad enough to cause a misfire. Ford lifters usually don’t do that. The GM DOD lifters are really bad about collapsing and they will set a light when that happens.
