"Don't sing along" is Bowie's code for "Sing along as loud as you fucking can"
lol !!
TheParagade indeed! !!
Exactly
Robert, when why does he point his mic out to the audience for them to sing?
@@dustythe2nd188 David said it knowing full well everyone was going to sing. He wasn't serious by asking people not to sing.
Why is this track so bloody nostalgic??? ALL I CAN THINK OF IS "Was I scary? No you were beautiful."

He'd have been 73 years old today, forever a young dude!
He aged gracefully and now he is immortalised

"was i scary?"
"no. you were beautiful."
“He liked knowing that he and Sirius could be in a room full of people, and no one had a clue what they had been doing only the night before, or even two hours earlier. He liked getting away with it. He liked seeing Sirius with a girl, and thinking ‘nevermind, later he belongs to me’.”

Hello Fellow ATYD and Marauders Fans ! Gotta Love his songs .😍
remove the dnf hearts from your name, heathen
ANYTHING FOR OUR MOONY. god the marauders fandom got me into bowie and i will never leave as it ha such a place in my heart now.
I was lucky enough to see Bowie twice in concert. R.i.p. David Bowie, you are missed, but your music lives on.
Lucky!
Lol to think this is 2004, I'm 8 years old, and have no idea who this man is. Now I'm 19 and I'm obsessed with him!
Update: and to think I wrote this a month before he passed, I was all hyped up for his new album and never thought he'd die so soon. Miss ya Bowie.
+Sydney O'Bier You'll earn your Seat on the Jedi Council yet young master! Bowie is a rare diamond the world should know about and a younger generation should know about.
+eqsmooth They were not the first to record this song. David Bowie recorded it himself hours after he wrote it sitting in his living room with his friend.
+eqsmooth They were not the first to record this song. David Bowie recorded it himself hours after he wrote it sitting in his living room with his friend.
Haytham Kenway Yup! David "gifted" it to them. Totally saved them from premature obscurity (as well as their new vocalist, Ian Hunter). They did put out quite a few stand outs tho. Hymn for the dudes and Ballad of Mott are particular gems
+Sydney O'Bier Smart girl!
All the young dudes, just timeless .
He is eternally classy and manages to sound better than ever. We were fortunate to have David Bowie in our lives.
Rod McDonough yes..we were blessed by his elegant, brilliant presence..God I miss him!- Sofieann B.

@@michaellafreniere3599 I never met the man so for me it's no different him being dead or alive, as we are all still watching his videos and listening to his music. In that sense, he's not dead but immortalised

About that
What the hell is the guy here? 57? Looking like the young dude himself. Awesome. This guy was a force til the end.
+Kane Alson Yes it is unbelievable how youthful he looked well into his late 50's! Amazing. He definitely still had it as a performer as well.
+Kane Alson So true.....
Age is a state of mind
bowie is complete proof of that...age is a state of mind and we are timeless
@ emma...it's also proof that he can cover a song just about better than the original. God I miss this guy.
The sheer amount of nostalgia this song carries, just because it’s mentioned in a fanfiction I owe a sizeable piece my personality to. I can’t even imagine how potently this song hits you if you were alive back when it was written.
21.00 Hrs.
Hi Racoon, thanks. I was around when this came out, I was 11. Yes it hits hard- the post Woodstock generation finds its feet, mostly in platforms with dangerously wide flares and Baggies inches above and there was still some innocence pre Watergate, refreshed political cynicism, the Three Day Week in the U.k. with free contraception and no AIDS. Oh God, I’m sounding nostalgic, better stop. Take care, Stu X
Watching Bowie videos tonight. I fucking love you. RIP.

"God I'm so PISSED, I said don't sing!"

we are SO lucky to have youtube now. all I can do is listen until I run out of tears and be so thankful we had him and I saw him. TY David Bowie you changed the world.
Bowie at 57 was cooler than I am now, at 23.
BlairBlitz David Bowie at any age was cooler than you...and me...and Ghandi...and god
Yes Johnny, Thats so true......
Blair, I know that feeling way too well.
When your grandparents were cooler then you..
David Bowie was and is cooler than anyone in recorded human history. And God. Plus, he was a nice person.
Bowie wrote it for Mott, and specifically with Hunter's vocal style in mind - and with it saved Mott The Hoople. He had offered them Suffragette City, which they rejected.
most people don`t know this. he wrote this song for Mott The Hoople when he heard they were thinking about breaking up. he penned it in about 2 hours from what i have read. there are millions of people that can play guitar and there are millions of people that can sing. writing lyrics and music is what makes a legend. Bowie is a legend!
And like most of Bowies music of the period an uncredited mick ronson
@@gman5218 on the original track Mick Ralphs played acoustic and electric guitar. Not a slouch either

Mott didn’t last too long… even Bowie couldn’t help them in the long run.
Fantastic song from the greatest musician who as ever lived in my time, you can keep your Sinatra's, Elvis, Michael Jackson, nobody comes close to Bowie, miss the man so much but his music lives on.
you have no idea how bad it hurts, he was a great man in all he did, an amazing father, husband and friend
Michael comes very close
Bowie # 1
@@sumirpprimus ah com'on no where near as creative as Bowie. MJ was a great live performer his ,songs were catchy but not much more . Bowie has a dozen great albums.
You guys clearly don't know the impact that Michael caused on the world.. Furthermore, number #1 is Freddie Mercury forever, he was a force of nature..

The amazing thing about David Jones is just how long it took him to realise that he was a musical genius. A brilliant actor too.
*Anything for our Moony*
who is not devastated right now? what tragic news. Amazing talent. Amazing career. No match.
+thedvguy I'm still so devastated...he had me at Labyrinth and I have also loved his music. Wish I got to see him perform live...
omg I saw him concert back in the 70's and he blew my mind! I was only 19 . I have been a fan of Bowie since the early 70's, Spiders from Mars his album of the coming up century as he said back in the day! Omg I was 12
Still devastaded almost 10 months after his loss...
+EfP same here.......I really wish that I could have seen his live just one time!!
+thedvguy Almost a year and I'm still sad about it and angry that we'll never get any new music from him. My ultimate dream was always to see him live and/or meet him :(
This is at his absolute best IMO, not being weird or a hipster just being cool as all hell. And looking like he's having a blast.
Such an amazing voice! What a loss. I miss this young dude!
Heard the news it was quarter to seven and fifteen minutes later I was in the dark walking to catch my train, it was raining and I felt so alone and yes I panicked;
People who know me well know how much I loved him and how much I miss him now, he was my elder brother and for decades I've looked at him as if he was my lighthouse;
But what gives me peace tonight is to see how much he was loved and may he rest him peace, we are here gathered in a circle bringing warmth to each other.
+jerste I felt precisely the same. Beautiful comment.
are you bent ?
that is exactly how I felt...yes I agree..beautifully put..there are some brilliant bowie sites on Facebook and instagram..you've probably checked them out by now...they're wonderful..I still struggle to believe it but his music and the other bowie fans keep me sane..bowie lives!
jerste Correct. Light never is extinguished.
Wow.i couldn't have put it better.saw him as an elder brother too.here I am 8 years later looking through these comments,so glad all over again,to see how he was loved and appreciated for the true 'star' he really was.from one to another, and there's many if us God bless you and all of us and love on ya.Bowie and all he was and is..lives on!💫

Thank you United Kingdom for giving us David Bowie.
I am eternal grateful.
Bowie is an alien. .
I thank my dad in heaven for exposing me to Bowie as a kid. I still remember him explaining how Bowie wrote this song for Mott the Hoople. I remember when it was used in the movie Juno and all my friends acted like it was a new song.

In this amazing song, the great Mick Ronson left a legacy, a lesson, for thousands of guitarists to follow. He advanced the art to a point where ‘iconic’ is exactly apt.
You can see the love between David and Gail. It was such a spiritual love. That's what made them such amazing band mates.
Bowie was awesome - glad to have been there when the 70's was unfolding and the music was unpolluted by the record companies. Seeing Bowie and so many others in the 70's was an unbelievable experience!!!
These young dudes are carrying the NEWS especially the boogaloo dudes. Rest in peace David Bowie.
How is this video so underappreciated? One of his most genuine and fun performances

Bowie the gift that keeps on giving.
Went to a David Bowie concert in the late 70's because someone gave me free a ticket. I'd heard of the guy but never really listened to his music. As soon as the show started I became an instant fan. Space Oddity -- yeah.
David Bowie 1947-2016. Respect.
What a genuinely positive and engaging presence he has... his smile says it all!
The spirit of Sirius Black was here and no one will tell me otherwise.
Still crying. What a dude!!!!
How is it possible that he can still sound a good deal like himself from like 30 years earlier? He was truly remarkable!
Hi didn't "belt" much and tended to choose singing in a key that matched his vocal chords. I'm so glad he did this as he ALWAYS sounded good!
Bowie, the living legend.

One rare rockers that didn't grow old he aged like fine wine
R.I.P. DAVID WITH ALL THE YOUNG DUDES
Wow to an amazing performance when the crowd started singing along it’s like they sounded like angels singing up with him it put me in tears RIP David.
Words can not describe how much i miss this man.
Bowie wrote this song for the British band, "Mott The Hoople" to help them succeed and stay together. It worked, but the song reveals more about himself than any other song 🎵 that he ever wrote. I miss you❤️
Yep. He gave them one of his best songs. That's pretty generous for an artist.
And Mott the Hoople did a really good job with it. That's the version I grew up with and like best. It did keep the band together for a short while and they produced a few other excellent songs.
David Bowie's last public appearance in the UK. I had the privilege of seeing him twice live. First time in the 80s in Manchester on the Glass Spider tour then on my birthday 1990 at the National Bowl Milton Keynes on the Sound + Vision tour. Moral of the story is see artists when you can as they aren't going to be around forever. Much as we like to think they will be
Such an amazing connection with the audience.
Perfect stage presence..RIP.
3 months on and the pain hasn't gone away. I miss you David, I didn't know you, but damnit, I miss you dearly!
