The citrus I started by seed will get no protections after 1 year because I want to weed out the weak cultivars. I am in zone 9a in Florida. Not concerned about fruits freezing as I am growing thorny citrus as a perimeter hedge. Some fruits might be strong enough to survive some might not but the thorns are hardy. Some citrus I have I keep for fruit. I may protect some but not all. I am willing to risk some to test cold hardiness.

What is a pipe frost protection ? Thank you. I live in san diego suburbs, wherr the temperature is little bit warmer in winter, than Arizona.

What about flowers? They started to flower early
