Cool stuff!! My experience with solar devices like this has been birdbath fountains. And then they lasted about a year or two. I think the panel surface that the sun hits eventually turns opaque, which interferes with the signaling, and fountains stop working properly. This is the first time I’ve seen a watering system like this.

I have been following Alan for a while now and can tell you he does not do things for commercials sake. He is one of the few out there in the gardening ecospace that actually tells you the truth. He is a no frills, just sharing knowledge kind of a guy whose opinion I respect. I am pushing 70 and have been gardening all my life, so that tells you something right there. I have a green thumb but I still learn things from him like better and easier ways of doing things. When you live in the desert with 110° to 120° every day hot summers, you have much different challenges than you do elsewhere. I can personally tell you that getting cool water to all your plants everyday is a huge job and issue.

In Japan they practice forest bathing, a practice or process of therapeutic relaxation where one spends time in a forest or natural atmosphere, focusing on sensory engagement to connect with nature. I too lost significant weight. From 230 to 150 pounds. I did it because of diabetes and high blood pressure. I changed my diet from the typical American garbage diet to keto. No seed oils, no processed foods, zero sugar. My carbs are less than 40 per day, most people consume150 to over 400 carbs per day. My blood sugars are normal now. ALL carbs turn to sugar in the body. I spend at least two hours in the garden in full sun every day. Being in nature and in the sun is how we evolved as a species. We did not evolve inside cubed boxes in artificial light making trips to the kitchen on an hourly basis Your not crazy my friend.

I am almost 100% and lost about 20 lbs. just thought I would toss some anecdotal evidence in the mix 🤙💚. Also if you’re a natural gardener and focus on soil biology , the microbes 🦠 will help almost all aspects of your health !!! 💪

Hi again Alan, from your experience growing Moringa seeds, do you find that they will grow from seeds in the full desert sun and heat? I live in the desert with 120+ degree heat and no humidity. I wish to plant several Moringa trees on the west side of the house. This side has absolutely no protection anywhere from the direct summer sun and heat. I have noticed that my seedlings in 2 liter soda bottles struggle very hard with the full sun. They basically stopped growing and try very hard just to survive and not die. Since I moved them to the covered porch, removed them from the water tray and now give them only morning and late afternoon sun with daily top watering, they are growing once again. The tallest is only about 7", but it is about a month and a half old. Seeing that makes me think that I need to grow them up a bit, then acclimate them to the full sun and then finally transplant them. What are your thoughts and experiences on this? Thank you.

I never really had that problem, maybe a few pounds but nothing major. Being out in the sun is good for a person if you don't overdo it to the point of having a sun stroke or skin cancer, actually I think sun block is supposed to prevent a person from getting skin cancer but I have never used it, so far no issues thank God. You get free vitamin D from the sun if you spend time in the sun. I'm glad you were able to lose weight.

Before you put irrigation in for me, I hand-watered all my plants. That was for about two years. I would be out there for two to three hours morning and again at night. I also moved rocks and lifted bags of soil, mulch, etc. I am 65 and can still easily carry bags of soil, mulch, move my pots, etc.. I do hurt in the evening, like you, but I have the mindset that I am going to hurt anyway, so I might as well feel like I have accomplished something. You have definitely changed your body, solid muscle now! This is Pam in Apache Junction by the way. 🙂

Organic gardening is a very spiritual thing and a healthy lifestyle. Gardening isn't just a seasonal or occasional deal. A garden is a living thing that needs constant attention so it's a part of daily living or it will not thrive. I started gardening right after arriving in CA and bought a house at about 30 YO. I am now 65 YO having moved to AZ about 6 yrs ago. I am not me without my trees and plants that bring contentment and joy in life besides learning a great deal of information on the environment among other stuff. Love your videos!

You’re absolutely right, Alan! Especially during the cooler or more temperate times of the year, I’m going to definitely be outdoors, whether it be walking or gardening. This increases the more steps one takes. Sometimes in the spring, I will have taken 10,000 to 15,000 steps in a given day. It’s a great feeling to have, especially when one is motivated. Plus, like you said, it comes with the added benefit of losing weight. The days when I’m working outdoors, I become more thirsty than hungry, so I drink these high-electrolyte drinks, to quench my thirst. I even lost a few pounds earlier this year, especially during the spring and autumn. I wear a Fitbit wristwatch device to keep track of my steps. There are so many guys who need to lose some weight. I also think more guys are getting into gardening, whether for therapeutic or health purposes.

I didn't do it for that purpose, I just thought it would be cool to grow a couple of fruit trees of my favorite types. It rapidly became a hobby and obsession 😂 but you're absolutely spot on with your assessment.

I bought a Pakistan Mulberry from you in March and planted it. It’s been pretty happy all the way up until 2 days ago when all the leaves on the tree burned to a crisp. Ever since planting it’s been getting 3 gallons of water at 6am, 3 gallons at noon and 3 gallons at 6pm plus I hand water in the morning and evening getting it nice and soaked. This week I felt as if I might be overwatering it so I backed off on the hand watering but never touched the automatic watering. The root ball never dried out. Still on Thursday morning the tree was toast (literally). All the branches are still pliable but there’s no new growth (hasn’t grown one bit since planting). Is it dead? I’ve resumed the hand watering. My understanding is that you can overwater the tree? The guava I planted on the same day is growing like crazy and I’ve never changed anything about watering it (it gets the same amount plus hand watering and never dries out). Everything else in the yard is still going crazy like the bamboo and bananas. Any advice? Thanks!

If I have a south-facing slope varying from 5-20 degrees with ever-present pacific ocean wind (ten miles inland of Carlsbad, CA), would I have to do anything for wind protection? My hypothesis is some olhamii's would naturally slump down, but that many will grow upright if provided the right irrigation and understory despite the windy conditions. Thoughts?

I bought a white pakistan in France, it's clearly not from tissue culture, it's like a 7 feet straight branch that they rooted. It has lot of new branches but none of them have any fruits. Is that something usual for a first year? My main fear is that they sold me a fruitless mulberry instead of a white pakistan... Thanks!
