I just leased a 2023 Kia Rio LX+ with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION on January 24th, 2023 in London, Ontario, Canada. As in your video, this dealer said they hadn't seen a Manual Transmission Rio in a couple years but suddenly a couple came in and they're already both sold/leased. NEWS FLASH! Some people still WANT a Manual Transmission and In the case of the Kia Rio, it provides a little driving fun to this non-performance vehicle. I've personally had several Manual Transmission vehicles over the years but not for almost 20 years. I was surprised to find a VERY pleasant 6 speed gearbox AND extremely light clutch pedal effort in this Rio. Another surprise on my test drive was the impressive handling for an entry level vehicle with such skinny tires. This thing is actually FUN to drive.
I'd actually had an EX Premium Rio on order since May 2022 but got tired waiting for Kia to ship one to Canada in my colour of choice. I' had chosen the EX Premium last year because it was/is the ONLY version of the Rio with a Telescoping Steering Wheel (which is generally VERY important for me). However, upon sitting in this LX+ I was surprised to find that I was very comfortable with the standard "tilt only" steering column. Another feature of the EX Premium version was Sirius Satellite Radio. However, since I have a Lifetime Subscription for Sirius/XM AND an unlimited cell phone plan, I was able to access Satellite Radio via Android Auto on this LX+. There's a couple other things missing in the LX Version but personally I could care less about the absence of a Sunroof on the Rio LX+. Quite frankly, I was surprised to find the level of tech included in this near base version of the Rio. Sadly, i WILL have to get the key out of my pocket and insert it into the ignition slot to start the vehicle. Oh the humanity of such a 1st World problem.
When I ordered the 2022 EX Premium, I was pleased to find it still had 15" wheels AND Drum Brakes on the rear. This means less expensive tires, better ride quality due to the shock absorption capability of the taller tire sidewalls, AND the probability that I wouldn't have to replace REAR brakes due to corrosion issues from our salt laden winter roads in a few short years. However, Kia in their infinite wisdom changed this on the EX Premium for 2023 to 17" wheels and four wheel disc brakes. Fortunately, the LX+ still maintains 15" wheels and rear drum brakes.
When I first started investigating the Rio last year I was enamoured with the wonderful simplicity of this vehicle. No Turbocharger to blow up, no problematic Direct Injection, 15" tires, and drum brakes out back Perfect for my needs!

I just got ‘23 Rio LX about a month ago finally and it is so much for so little on the price tag. They also have the center console available on Amazon for self installation for $50 if that’s a big thing for anyone considering the trims. With gas at $4.50 in my area I fill up for about $40-$42. A standard car seat fit perfect in my back seat and with it being on the smaller side the AC circulates so well in it. No complaints from anyone in the back!
I believe this trim in this video is the *S with options not the LX??
Awesome. Exactly the color I wanted to get too. How does it handle in the winters? I'm in Toronto and we just went through some snowstorms back to back where I saw a lot of vehicles struggling. Hope that wouldn't be me!. Looking to get my first car.
My son just ordered the top of the line Kia Rio (his first car), here in the US, it is only a available as the sedan (which he prefers). It is the Kia Rio S with the optional technology package. I have ordered a Kia Forte which should be here next week! Thank you for your videos, they have really helped me in my decisions!!!

Hatchback IS available in the US (although good luck finding one)- it's listed on the KIA site as the Kia Rio 5-door. I have the 2022 hatchback with tech pkg which I ordered from the factory in June. Absolutely love it. Getting about 42 mpg city/highway mix. Have already had it on road trips to Montréal, Toronto, and Chicago.
i bought a 2021 kia rio love it it has the ivt transmission much better the the typical cvt transmission the ivt is much more durable major improvement
I picked up a sport blue 2023 Rio S for $17,815. Love the car, love the value!
This is more specious than my Mazda CX30 with it's high MPG.
Does the 1.6L have a timing belt or chain?
Excellent video!. They really haven't changed anything (except for the new logo in the '22) from my awesome little '21 red Rio. It had wireless AA/ACP in 2021, the first time it appeared so it wasn't just introduced last model year. I love my Rio, I've commented on almost all the other Rio videos so I've already told how well Gabi and Charlotte know their stuff about this car. I hope they keep it going for a few more years as it's a great value for small car.

@@kramer911 I still do recommend it, I haven't driven it in the snow yet. I'm in the Vancouver area so I tend to avoid driving when it snows, but it should be ok with the proper winter tires. It really doesn't feel like a small car in the inside. When I took it in for service a couple of months ago, they mentioned that the 2023 model really is the same as my 2021. I have only 10500 Km on mine so I can't speak for higher mileage usage, but it does handle well on the freeway without feeling unstable or unsafe.
I have a 2018 Kia Rio Hatchback EX in Red bought it pre owned In February, I Found it on the lot by accident took it for a test drive and have been impressed ever since and be came a FAN Of Kia this car reminds me of the 1990s but Modern if that makes sense. Coming from a 2010 ford focus SES which I drove for 7 years it's definitely sumthing else, Kia Rio for the win I'd buy another one.

Great video. Always makes me smile how our brothers and sisters across the pond can’t drive a manual transmission car! I think 99% of us here in England passed our tests in manual cars

Hello, The Engine light is on because the cars electronics were turned on without the engine being turned over.
All cars will have these warning lights illuminated when doing this.

True. It used to be limited to only thr top trim in the 2022 model. Glad they added it across all trims in the 2023 model year.

I prefer Kia over Hyundai but it's obvious the company is putting all their marbles in Hyundai brands ONLY. Sad. The Kia Rio is the most boring looking car out there but zero updates and the same seats for years. My 2013 Kia Rio SX hatchback manual still looks better than the newest Rio's....that's how badly they've ignored the Rio. A simple google search on 2013 kia rio sx and 2023 kia rio hatchback and the 2013 wins hands down.

Another car ruined by removing the stick transmission from it. It's like car manufacturers have something against simple fun these days. Some people don't want an automatic transmission so don't force it on them Kia.
