Loved so many things about this video. Starting with the best expedition canoe ever made, the Old Town Tripper canoe. Damn shame they stopped making that boat. Love mine. It was also great to see the traditional canoe gear. So many young people posting canoe trip videos are so, so proud to be essentially doing a hiking trip with a canoe. Missing the point entirely about a canoe expedition, which to me is, you eat like a king with real food, you cook with a actual grill, sleep in a nice sized tent not a coffin, and most importantly you work as a team, you become your own community. And those things hikers consider luxurious, because they never see the extended remote of a canoeist, are what make us feel safe as canoeists. Real food, tobacco, a good seat, and the sacred camp boots for dry feet finally at the end of the day. As an Old Maine Guide of 26 years, I really enjoyed seeing a younger group on a good track. The only advice I will offer is...slow those boats down in the rapids, remember you’re driving a vehicle with no brakes. Once you descend into that rapids, just steer and slow. All the best. Lisa DeHart.

I've been on long trips where I've gone up to 9 days without seeing another soul. People ask me why I do it. You guys get it. I also like trips where the weather and geography are challenging. It makes the trip more memorable years later, and it reinforces why I go out in the first place. Our daily lives are too easy, so it's good to go out once in a while and remind ourselves that it is. As for the north, I've lived above the 54th parallel most of my adult life, so I know the pull it can have on an individual. Great video. Safe travels. Cheers from Alberta.

I enjoyed your film. Too bad about the rum and coke though. The scene at 15:30 reminded me of one of my own trips. That was in 1988. There were two of us; my wife and me near Lake Superior Provincial Park. We just finished another tough portage. And there it was. A small lake that offered zero draft. The canoe needed skis. It was muck and tall grass and some water. At the end of each stroke, the canoe halted. It was grueling . She said, "never again; I am never ever canoeing with you again." I said, "oh, so you'd rather canoe with a greenhorn". She liked that about as much as she liked the stubborn no-draft lake. Today, nearly 30 years later; now I'm 60, she's slightly younger, we still paddle the same 17'2" Mad River Explorer...together. Thanks for the film.

I've watched this many times (on Vimeo too before it was on CZcams). It's such a great film and judging by the other comments here, I'm not the only one who thought so. I think you've got a "cult classic" here that, like Bill Mason's Waterwalker, will be enjoyed by canoeists for years to come.
